Mr. Not Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 2000 - 20092010 - Present (or future predictions if you'd like to make that stretch)
Mr. Not Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 for the last decade, it's tougher for me to decide... It probably would have to be from Porcupine Tree or The Mars Volta. Right now I'd have to nominate:TMV: Tetragrammaton, Cassandra GeminiPT: Russia on Ice, Anesthetize but also:Angra - The Shadow Hunter Currently I'm going with Tetragrammaton: http://youtu.be/l1_1VgDVmQo For the present decade, there's only two I consider, really. Almah's "Treasure of the Gods" which falls in favor ahead of Stratovarius's "Elysium". Neither are entirely outstanding though, I'm sure they will be surpassed by a later release or discovery of mine.
Mr. Not Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Steven Wilson - Raider II For such a great songwriter, he seems to have trouble with writing extensive pieces... The two I listed above are fantastic exceptions :) Albums only? Or songs as well? songs only, epic lengthy songs like 2112 (title track)
Red Dwarf Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 DREAM THEATRE-SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE.Surely DTs " magnum opus"! 1
Union 5-3992 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Raider II is probably my favorite SW epic. Seeing it live was mind blowing. Opeth - The Leper Affinity (This'll turn your brain into mush)Dream Theater - Illumination Theory (2013)Dream Theater - The Count of Tuscany (2011)Devin Townsend Project - Planet of the Apes (2011)Porcupine Tree - Even Less (1999)Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here (2005)Truckfighters - Mastodont (2014)Truckfighters - Majestic (2009)Ayreon - Into The Black Hole (200)
Segue Myles Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Ok: Nightwish- The Poet And The Pendulum 1
Mr. Not Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 If I were to go with a DT epic, only Octavarium would cut it. Love Count of Tuscany too though, usually ambient-like interludes fail to capture me and I just see them as filler - but that's definitely not the case here (or in Tetragrammaton, or going back to the 20th century Close to the Edge :D )
