The Miami Dolphins likely lost their shot at hosting Super Bowl L when Florida lawmakers opted not to approve a deal that would publicly fund improvements to aging Sun Life Stadium.

Could the consequences be even greater?

Dolphins CEO Mike Dee said Sunday on Miami's CBS affiliate that the team will not provide any upgrades to Sun Life Stadium without the help of public funding. The Dolphins have canceled all renovation plans and say stadium improvements cannot be made without public-private partnership.

Dee left the door open that the stadium issue could lead to the Dolphins' eventual exit from southern Florida.

"The Dolphins are one of the only franchises in the NFL that don't have a long-term lease with their community," Dee said, according to The Palm Beach Post. "At some point, somebody's going to buy the franchise from (Dolphins owner Stephen Ross), and clearly the stadium is the first thing they would need to address."

Dee focused his ire on Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford, who chose not to bring the stadium bill to a vote before the legislative session concluded Friday. That kept the decision out of the hands of Miami-Dade County voters.

Said Dee of Weatherford: "At the end of the day, this abuse of power, I believe, will follow his career for a long time."

Ross has said he doesn't plan on selling the Dolphins in the immediate future. Still, egos have been bruised in Miami. This story isn't going away.

Dee and Ross are being a-holes. How is it abusing power to not fund a sports stadiums. The public should not subsidize sports stadiums one dime. The Marlins' situation, where they basically screwed over the taxpayers, didn't help either.

L.A. Dolphins?

naa Miami's weather will always keep the Dolphins there...

If the Philadelphia Eagles have a repeat of last year, Mr. Lurie will be off out West with the franchise. I think it'll be "L.A. Eagles" !!

Chip Kelly is a boom or bust HC, with bust being the most likely...

Colin Kaepernick created a buzz in social media circles when a photo surfaced of the quarterback donning a Miami Dolphins hat at a Fourth of July party.

Kaepernick owns more than 400 pairs of shoes as well as an impressive collection of baseball caps from numerous sports teams. The Dolphins hat was just another fashion statement from a man who obviously loves to accessorize.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick caught flak on social media for wearing a Miami Dolphins hat. (@kaepernick7 / Instagram/)

Some San Francisco 49ers fans didn't see it that way, though. Kaepernick was given the Keenan Allen treatment in social media circles, leading to a Friday retort.

"This the hat y'all mad at? I'm goin wear what I want regardless of what you think," Kaepernick said, via Instagram. "All you need to worry about is the fact that I grind for my teammates and the 49ers! I plan on doin this until they won't let me in the building! #ridiculous #y'allmustbebored"

The photo of Kaepernick holding the Dolphins hat looks a bit suspect. But if the picture is real, good for him.

Bitter fans too often come off like jilted lovers. That might be understandable with a player who failed to live up to his potential, but Kaepernick has given 49ers fans no reason to doubt his fidelity. He began offseason workouts a week after the Super Bowl and even trained with track athletes for two weeks in April. His commitment level is beyond reproach.

Pouncey twins apparently show their support for Hernandez

Pounceys

Less than two weeks after a Dolphins hat raised an unexpected stink for Colin Kaepernick, a Dolphin wearing a different kind of hat could be creating another.

Via Deadspin, a photo of what appears to be Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey and Dolphins center Mike Pouncey wearing “Free Hernandez” hats has surfaced on the Internet.

Both men played with Aaron Hernandez at the University of Florida. Both have had their names come up in connection with the unsolved September 2007 shooting that may or may not have involved Hernandez.

So the list of public Hernandez supporters apparently is now up to five: Deion Branch, Snoop Dogg, the ACLU, and the Pouncey twins.

A league source has confirmed conclusively that it’s the Pouncey twins in the photo. There’s still a chance (small as it may be) that the messages on the hats were digitally altered.

I guess centers take a lot of shots to the head. Brain damage is the only way you can defend that sentiment.

Dolphins place Jordan on non-football injury list

Posted by Mike Florio on July 21, 2013, 9:58 AM EDT

Last night, we pointed out that Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan won’t be ready to participate in contact drills for one or two weeks, following offseason shoulder surgery. As a result, the Dolphins have not yet placed Jordan on the active, 90-man roster.

Per a league source, the Dolphins placed Jordan on the active/non-football injury list upon opening training camp this morning.

He can be moved to the active roster at any time. If he doesn’t make the shift by the date of the final roster cuts, Jordan will spend the first six weeks of the regular season on that non-football injury list.

That would be a shock, if it were to happen. He’ll be ready to go in a week or two. In the interim, he’ll be able to attend meetings and engage in limited workouts on his own. He just can’t practice with the team, either during padded drills or walk-throughs.

I have a feeling we're going to regret not taking one of the LTs (though the only one left was Lane Johnson).

It seemed a bit weird moving up for Jordan, who is relatively unproven. How would you have felt if they'd taken the receiver Tavon Austin?

That's why we got Mike Wallace. Austin would have been a duplicate, so I still would have rather gone with the tackle.

So Johnson would have been your choice then at #3? What if they hadn't moved up, who then at #12?

I didn't know for sure then, and I don't remember now. But I was hoping for a LT or a corner so probably the best of those available. Or anyone above slot level that would have slipped, as long as it wasn't a position of strength would have been OK too.

Dustin Keller (knee) out for Miami Dolphins' season

By Marc Sessler

Around the League Writer

The Miami Dolphins expected the worst after Dustin Keller suffered a grisly right knee injury in Saturday's preseason loss to the Houston Texans.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport confirmed the inevitable Sunday, reporting that Keller will be lost for the entire season, according to a source informed of the injury.

It hardly comes as a surprise. Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald tweeted Sunday that the Dolphins' front office already was busy calling around for help at the position.

Keller was brought in to give young quarterback Ryan Tannehill a sure thing in the passing game. It will be a challenge for the Dolphins to replace that production. A combination of Charles Clay, Michael Egnew and rookie Dion Sims will try, but this isn't a void Miami can fill on short notice.

For Keller, it's a crushing blow after he signed a one-year contract this offseason, essentially betting on himself to produce a monster season in Miami. After seeing his early chemistry with Tannehill, that seemed likely, but now Keller and the Dolphins are left to pick up the pieces.

Just saw that he tore all 3 of his cruciate ligaments. Out for the year, and may never play again (at least at a high level.)

F***...he was one of the pickups I was most excited about.

Good job you drafted Egnew and Sims over the last couple of years they need to step up now.

And at least this is balanced out a little by Wes Wanker going down with an injury, even though he's not with the Belicheats anymore...

Hopefully Sims can step up, he's looked fairly good in the first two preseason games (I haven't seen the Texan game yet). Egnew appears to be a complete waste of a high pick.

Egnew is no good? What his problem? Not NFL ready? I remember he was talked up pretty big in the 2012 draft, what round was he drafted?

You were right about Keller he tore his MCL, ACL and PCL and dislocated his knee! I haven't even heard about a PCL injury in recent times. That's the strongest of the cruciate knee ligaments. D.J. Swearinger said he went low because he didn't want to get fined for going high.

3rd round. His pick reflected some success early in his college career but he fell off later. I think he was drafted where he was because of his measurables (he was big and athletic), but from what I read his work ethic isn't what it needs to be and he couldn't adjust well to not playing in the slot where he did in college.

Thanks, Goodell...

I hate when the schedule makers have the Dolphins come to Foxboro in the early to mid fall.

Oh, I wouldn't worry TOO much...

I don't expect it to make a big difference in the outcome of the game. But I do love the "Jesus f*cking Christ!" look that some players that are more accustomed to warmer climates get when they come here in December.

For whatever reason, I don't think the Fins have really underperformed when they play late season games in Buffalo, New England, and New York. Most, if not all of their failures are due to their relative lack of talent and coaching.

That's probably true. But I do think that, like extreme heat, brutal cold, combined with a hostile crowd, make it mentally harder to find the will to mount a comeback.
