Third Party mp3 converters

I'm not sure if this is a verboten topic or not; if it is, I'll trust the Admins to close/delete the thread.

For the past several months, I've been a frequent user of the website www.youtube-mp3.org, which provided simple and free Third Party conversion of any and all YouTube clips to MP3 format. While it smacks of musical piracy, for a time it was "legal," and any song you found on YouTube could be easily converted to MP3 format, downloaded to your hard drive, and then dumped into your iTunes (and lastly on to your iPod or MP3 player), for free.

Google says the website breaks YouTube's Terms of Service policy, and has shut it down (or at least, put limits on it) while lawsuits are pending.

Anybody know of ANOTHER good "Third Party conversion" website which is still operating?

When I used to do things kind of thing a few years ago I used a website called media converter. Not sure of the domain name or if there is a hyphen but if you google it I'm sure it will be the first one. I think it was mediaconverter.org

Thanks, Nate, you DID help!

I found that the second link, vid to mp3 dot com, was the simplest and closest to what I've used before; that one worked best for me.

Thanks again. I wanted the full 25-minute version of Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells, Part One" and youtube-mp3.org wasn't allowing me to convert it.

Youtube videos of more popular music are often sped up, slowed down distorting the original I can hear it, so for me, meh, I can bypass that temptation. If I want it on my hard drive, I want a good copy., otherwise I can just go to youtube and enjoy it there.

I want a copy of the song on my iPod to listen to in the car, at the gym, or just walking down the street. Navigating to YouTube every time I want to hear the song won't work - I don't have a SmartPhone, so I'd either need a computer or a WiFi signal for my iPod Touch. Impractical.

As for quality, I try to find the best YouTube clip I can. Any song you search for on YouTube will bring up multiple results; you just have to listen to them a bit to determine how poor/good each clip is. I also pay particular attention to the first 30 seconds and the last 10... some of these dolts who load songs on YouTube add extraneous shit in the beginning and/or ending of their clips, or they leave a lot of "dead air" there.

I'm no audiophile, but I don't notice any "distortion" on the clips I choose to convert. I find the best YouTube clip that I can, convert it, download it, and dump it into my iTunes, add album artwork, and sync it to my iPod. 95% of the time I'm happy with the result. When I play songs in the car that originated from YouTube, my audiophile friend admits he can't tell.

If you use Firefox, this is sweet. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/youtube-to-mp3/

There are others as well. You do not need to install software.

I'll look at that one.

I liked www.youtube-mp3.org for its simplicity, speed, and because you didn't have to open an account or install special software. Thankfully, Nate's www.vidtomp3.com worked the same. Incidentally, his tip of www.listentoyoutube.com required a software install ("iLivid"), and then converted my YouTube clip to MP4 format - I ended up with the audio AND VIDEO of the original clip, when all I wanted was audio.

EDIT: I looked at your link. Yeah, it looks like a good, easy-to-use Third Party converter. The actual website is: www.video2mp3.net/ . Maybe I'll switch to this one.
