I think they did a good job with the cover. Very good players and well executed. Keyboard voicing was a little cheesy at times.

Thanks for sharing. smile.gif

Nektar's a great band but Roye Albringhton's doesn't have the right type of voice to sing Rush. I'm kind of surprised that Mark Kelly played those keyboard parts. The keys on the new Marillion album are amazing but they sound really lame here.

The whole concept for this album is weird. Its the 2 original members of Nektar with tons of guest musicians. But they're recording a new, all original album with a proper band.

not bad. good playing.

the best covers of rush IMO is the working man cd put out through magna carta.

these guys also cover opeth? i guess this disc is their feedback.

I bought that back in '96, way before I liked Dream Theater like I do now.

I actually threw the disc away a few years later, mostly because of how everybody on there tried to "Out Do" RUSH and overplay everything.

I think the Fate's Warning Closer to the Heart cover was the only one that was pretty true to the original, IIRC.

IMO, the problem with most Rush covers, including Nektars, is they are not edgy enough.

Skid Row's version of What Your Doing is pretty good though:

Also nice!

It may not be cool to say so but I like Rush covers, when they are not insipid and when the covering artists style shows through.

I am pretty quick to turn off the bad ones, though! Like, the version of "Anthem" from the Working Man CD.. erm.. no!

Yes, I am the same way. I don't actually care for covers of Rush songs. I don't mind James LaBrie's By-Tor. It is very rare that a tribute cover will get a play from me.

I'd much rather listen to Rush. biggrin.gif
