The president of the Tustin, Calif., Pop Warner football league and the coach of an elite team there have been suspended while the national organization investigates allegations that 10 and 11-year-old players were offered cash incentives as high as $50 to intentionally injure their opponents.

"We take this matter very seriously and have asked Tustin Pop Warner head coach Darren Crawford and Tustin President Pat Galentine to step down until this situation is finalized," executive director of Pop Warner, Jon Butler, said in a statement.

When I played football in 6th-7th grade, the coaches offered us 50 cents for a turnover and $1.00 if we knocked a player out of the game.

The head coach went on to be a local police officer.....imagine that.

We offer the kids burgers for pick-6s and 1 play TD drives.

This story is disgusting. How can someone encourage injuries when kids are involved. To possibly ruin a kid's future for a stupid game absolutely disgusts me.

Agreed. Absolutely shameful. dazed025.gif

I like your idea, LIX. Positive reinforcement. Now that's sportsmanship. smile.gif

Boy, the children need to understand that cheating is not okay....

The kids and grown-ups should know that it's sports - not the Roman coliseum.....

After thinking about this some more - here are our "deals" with the kids....

1. Pizza after every win (we have a family on the team that owns a pizza place and they agreed to bring in pizzas after a win)

2. Burgers for:

a. pick 6

b. kick/punt returned for TD

c. 1 play offensive TD drives

d. really incredible plays will get special recognition

3. Coaches do conditioning if they go thru the entire game penalty free. First 2 games they only had 1 penalty each game... so we got lucky smile.gif

4. Last half hour of Thursday's practice we do something fun after wins.
