tas7 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I thought it was passable on The Time Machine tour but judging by the videos of Clockwork Angels it appears Rush have decided to become a comedy act;The Three Stooges with a touch of The Marx Brothers. Maybe it's just me but I kind of saw Clockwork Angels as being a serious sort of affair not Duck Soup mixed with Willy Wonka.
Snaked Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 RUSH has ALWAYS included bits of humor in their show... especially since adding video way back when. This is nothing new...
BriGuy Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I like the funny stuff too... But considering Clockwork Angels tells a story, and there's even a novel expanding on the story, you would've/could've thought that the videos would have had more to do with the story.

Exactly, the slapstick routines don't really add to the story but almost mock it for some reason.
likeclockwork Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Guys - it's a rock concert, not a funeral! It's supposed to be fun and lighthearted. Relax and enjoy!
professornutbudder Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Lighten up fellas....let them have their fun. And while I didn't laugh quite as hard as I did at the Rash bits on the TM tour, I have to admit Geddy looking into his pants and saying"yeah, I've got discrepancies" made me laugh. And anything that makes Neil lighten up these days has to be a good thing

The Cat 3 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 QUOTE (Chicken hawk @ Sep 15 2012, 12:04 PM) Best variety show ever ! LOVE RUSH I was just going to post the very same thing! So true, the guys in Rush have a great sense of humour!

I like it, because it shows that Rush can take themselves seriously enough to pull off tellling a story with a full-on by-God CONCEPT ALBUM at this point in their careers, but also take themselves NOT-seriously enough to understand that they're not telling a deep, significant story. Because the music is their job, not the story. It is EXACTLY why I love them, and I wouldn't have it any other way

losingit2k Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I actually expected them to be more serious during this tour considering the story of CA but after watching the videos I was relieved since it showed me that RUSH has and will never take themselves too seriously. They take their music is serious enought and thats enough for me. I rather laugh at a concert than cry. If you want to cry go to a 9 Inch Nails concert.

gangsterfurious Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Life is too serious to be so serious... Clockwork Angels does have a "serious" tone yes, but it also has other themes. One of the greatest gifts in life is humor. Let the guys be funny if they want to. It's not like we're going to mass, give me a break.
