losingit2k
Many of you are so out in left field with this. You guys think Orchestras get paid alot of money. They don't. These are some of the most underpaid musicians on the planet. These 8-10 players will probably get $75-150 per night depending on how many songs they do, plus $ 50 per diem. ($ 600 for Lodging which will be 2 in a room & $30/ Day per person for food which they are already providing for the crew buffet style). the most cost will be booking an extra Tour bus which will be about $ 3000 per day for a luxury one, Cause knowing they guys, they'll provide a real nice one for the musicians. So at most they have to dish out an extra $ 5,600.00 per show. That's it! I think they'll make that up in tour book and T-shirt sales on the first day alone. Presto-digitation
It might not be a 10-piece. Could be 3 or 4 piece.

I just went with what they reported and thats on the high end. I actually forgot the conductor/ composer but he/ she might be the first violinist anyway. Finding IT
QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jun 19 2012, 12:52 PM) It might not be a 10-piece. Could be 3 or 4 piece. I have a close friend that tours with the TSO East. Their string section is augmented by local musicians at each show to keep the cost down. Presto-digitation
Tori Amos recently toured with a 4-piece and she makes far, far less at the gate than Rush does. They can certainly afford this.

presto123
The Rush guys are generous. I have a feeling the string section will get paid a little more than your average string section.

I t seems that rush will be using the same 10 musicians. Its really the way to go since its a smaller ensemble.

I would think so, just knowing these guys but management will probably step in and say $ 200.00/ per night and that it!
Lost In Xanadu
What about putting in down on paper, the music I mean.... you think Rush is going to do that themselves, or this guy they are working with will be doing all the orchestration for each of the pieces? I'm sure that's not free. Yes, likely not a huge cost, but should be factored in.

Well the orchestration for CA is already written but Fine, throw in a one time charge of $ 20K for what ever other songs they plan to perform and I think thats too high! Deckiller
I figured they'd get a grand a night, but I guess 200-300 is still pretty damn good. So about 10k in expenses for the ensemble per show? (bus + food + salary) That's not bad at all.
