Distant Signals
We are developing a set-list for a show at The Hard Rock Cafe in Pittsburgh this Saturday April 21st (that's 4-21-12) What would you choose as an opening song? Something familiar and predictable like Spirit of Radio, or something out of left field and obscure. Our repetoire consists of most of Signals, most of Grace Under Pressure, most of Permanent Waves and all of Moving Pictures... Plus a few songs from Roll The Bones. Post up your ideas. We want to hear from fans
GeddyRulz
I would definitely pick "Spirit of Radio." It's the best concert opener Rush ever had. It begins definitively (no "fade up" or sound effect in the beginning), announces the band with hard-rocking authority, and even serves as a kind of "introductory biography" of the band: All this machinery, making modern music Can still be open-hearted, Not so coldly charted, It's really just a question of your honesty. One likes to believe in the freedom of music But glittering prizes and endless compromises Shatter the illusion of integrity.
Unobtrusive Companion
I agree, got to be The Spirit of Radio. Hell, the first word of the song is "begin", it was born to be an opener!
Cowtothesky
I've always thought that a very cool opening for Rush material would be 2112: part III: Discovery. All done with the lights really low and then bring up the lights and rock out during IV: Presentation.
Strangiato
Circumstances has my vote! Nice heavy intro to smack the crowd awake haha.
hunter
Afterimage.
Distant Signals
Thanks for all the responses. We feel it would be more of an impact to catch the crowd off guard with an obscure song and smack em hard so they their expression at the end of the opening song is: "WOAH! Never would have thought they would open with that, but HOLY #$@%!!!!" Unfortunately, we don't know Circumstances right now, but a great choice. Distant Signals
QUOTE (hunter @ Apr 18 2012, 09:41 AM) Afterimage. We do Afterimage. That could work. Since our bass player plays a 5 string for that song to cover the "Drop D", we follow-up Afterimage with Between The Wheels since that is in Drop D as well. Thanks for the suggestion
