The Clash would like to have a word with you, boy.

I suppose they were punk for the 1st album, after that though they were pure rock 'n' roll.

I love the Clash but I like the Ramones best for sentimental reasons when it comes to Punk. I think that was punk in the way you described it, not Green Day (which I used to like a little, but really...punk is dead now.)

When Avril Lavigne sounds like this, she can be called punk. 1022.gif

Social Distortion

The Ramones

Fugazi

Husker Du

God I love punk rock...Avril Lavigne...not so much. laugh.gif

Don't forget The Buzzcocks and The Damned! No need to mention the Sex Pistols - they're a given.

I've seen this thread and ignored it up to now, but it keeps persisting here, it's like an itch that just won't scratch, so I've finally come to contribute as best I can in an effort to perhaps ward if off. I wanted to make a salient point of course, a statement on her worthiness in music maybe, but now that I'm here I realise I don't know this girl at all except for seeing her picture, so I find now I can only be superficial. So here goes...

I'd do her!!!

There are lots of great punk bands. I was going to include a clip from Black Flag but the ones I found were pretty shitty quality. I could have included some Bad Religion too. 1022.gif

I actually enjoy Johnny Lydon's work in PIL better.

Here's a great band out of DC.

Is Helmet considered punk? I think they are, but how ever you classify them, there is no denying that they f***ing rock! 653.gif

How about Husker Du?

Huge Bob Mould fan here. They're in my first post with Fugazi, The Ramones, and Social D.

Grew up listening to The Damned and The Ramones. Still like them although I do think the whole punk thing was hype/media. The motto was out with the old, in with the new. Yep, B side to the first Damned single was a cover of Help by the Beatles!

Few names missing

Siouxsie and the Banshees

The Exploited

Gang of 4

Dead Kennedys

Toy dolls

Vice Squad

Plasmatics

Magazine

Two of the best UK punk songs period, The Ruts

Staring at the rude boys

Babylon's burning

Redefine the word punk, well that is very "punk" in itself !

Punk was all about rebelling against establishment and authority, freewill, pushing boundaries. Many early punks used music, lyrics, poetry and art as a way to express their frustrations against social injustices, political corruption, commentaries of life of the working classes in deprived areas.

Avril, signed at the age of 15 to a major label and sold as a product for a teenage market. Uses her name and commercial success to further expand into fashion and fragrances.

Yep. Punk has been redifined.
