Where's the Buick? Go ahead and tell me a Buick Park Avenue or Lucerne isn't a luxurious prestigious vehicle... I beg to differ.

Maybe if you're going to drive 10 miles an hour to the grocery store to pick up prune juice...

Um...

That looks like it belongs on a scrap heap or in a banger race...

is that a park ave or a lucerne? tongue.gif

obviously there are some exceptions, but there is a reason buick has a reputation as being an old people company.

Even *I* know that at one time the Buick Regal GN was the fastest 0-60 production car in the US. I know it held that title in the mid-80's; not sure about how long the honor lasted.

Go take a look at the new Lacrosse and Lucerne. I'd have either in a heartbeat. They are no more "old fart" vehicles than the Lexus sedans. I see PLENTY of blue hairs driving Lexus (Lexuses? Lexi? unsure.gif )

Classy yet sporty at the same time. And if you get into one of these things you will see that these cars are dripping with prestige.

pfft, that's the most generic looking car i've ever seen. at least the overpriced snob german luxury cars are generally somewhat eye-catching.

this is the only *modern* buick i would even consider touching:

http://www.lincah.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/2011-Buick-Regal-Front-Angle-View-588x441.jpg

it may not be "classy" or "prestigious" per se, but what really grabs my interest is the option to get it with one of these:

om nom nom. i wonder how it feels.

To each their own, fledge. confused13.gif Some people are the "little sports car with stick shift 0-60 in 1 second" type and others are the full size passenger car type. I've always liked passenger cars (Park Ave, Crown Victoria, Town Car, etc)

it's not about performance -- the factors that go into prestige do include the company's history and reputation, aesthetics, engineering, etc... I'm sure the big American boat sedans drive smoothly and they're comfortable, but they're not really eye-catching, and GM especially is notorious for reliability problems and as far as i know there hasn't been much in the way of development in the last several years (a 2011 or 2012 buick is probably made up of most of the same components as a mid or late 90s buick).

call me crazy, but i think this:

http://jaguarstype.net/jaguar_s_type_5.jpg http://static.cargurus.com/images/site/2010/12/08/14/24/2003_jaguar_s-type_r_base-pic-2101314126531974103.jpeg

looks a whole lot more elegant than this:

http://www.cars-automobile.com/pictures/Buick08.jpg http://images.thecarconnection.com/lrg/2003_buick_park_avenue_ultra_100006392_l.jpg

that being said, jags (and english cars in general) aren't really much more reliable than GMs. but reliability and prestige are generally quite segregated.

My office neighbor has two newer Maserati's and two porsche's. He says the Mazzers are a pain in the ass. Never running right. and the dealer is a dick about it.

It was a close call with Mercedes and BMW, but Mercedes has been doing it longer and i went with them. They will craft you a big, powerful sedan with over 9000 features, including crazy shit like seats that massage you. And silly stuff like 8 speed automatics.

yeah, cars like that are notorious for having horrible reliability, and the companies are too proud to admit that their cars could ever possibly have problems. A company like maserati is more interested in making a fast, cool-looking car than a car that actually runs. And when you do get it running it has horrible gas mileage due to an unnecessarily large engine.

The Italians are notorious for flash cars with incredibly lousy reliability. Ferrari has a pretty bad reputation in that regard as well. And Top Gear had a show segment on Lancias, which were awesome racing machines, but total rust bucket POS cars when marketed to the general public. Need I mention FIAT (aka Fix It Again, Tony) or Alfa?

Sure, I expected the old people jokes. But I'm serious! Buicks are damn good cars. My first one was a Supercharged Buick Park Avenue Ultra. Built like a tank and one hell of a looker.

GM hasn't made a good-looking car since the '60s...

yeah, and SAABs are beautiful eyesre4.gif

Tark, dude, I just got a job a the local Buick dealership, I just detailed a beautiful Lacrosse and thought of you... this is a car I wouldn't mind showing up to a fine dinner in. Silver/black leather.

If it was 1971, I'd say Caddy or Lincoln. Stately, powerful machines. However, Jaguar always has had a fine sedan in their lineup. I'd rather have one than a Rolls. A Jag is nothing that you can hang some crap big rims on and some window tint, they're just too classy for that.

Other than that, give me a '71-'74 Caddy Fleetwood or a boattail Buick Riv... no other car looks like that.

went with the jag.
cadillacs may have won several decades ago, but recently they've become a self-parodying hip hop icon. lincoln i didn't even know still existed. volvo's and saab's were never necessarily "prestigious" despite being upscale and well-built (but since being sold off to american, and later chinese, companies, they have lost those qualities too), the japanese aren't quite up to par when it comes to luxury (though in most other aspects they have the best cars), audi's are a joke, and mercedes disgust me, as do most of the people who drive them.
this leaves porsche and bmw -- both of which i would personally prefer to a jaguar, but neither of which is exactly as "prestigious"...they're more of a car person's car than an upstanding gentleman's car, if you know what i mean.

Don't sell Cadillac short. The CTS-V is amazing.

And wait until the replacement for the STS comes out. The XTS is going to be sweet.

There is nothing boring about the new Buick Regal:

Why not make this a fair fight.

If you are going to show a Buick, at least show a current Buick. Not one from 10 years ago.

This is more like it:

And the LaCrosse probably cost 1/2 of what Jag cost.

And Buick has always been one of the most reliable cars on the road. They usually are in the top three in JD Powers every year.
