GuitarKid 1880
Ok, I got a question, and cause I didn't read through the thread, don't hate it, but why is The Revealing Science Of God higher than Close To The Edge? It just stumps me (don't get me wrong, I f***ing love TRSOG, but CTTE is much better).

Mystic Slipperman
wow.. would you believe I'm about #350 into my own list. Who knew? The "order" is really arbitrary and very changeable, though... so I'll probably do what you did, Goobs... rank 1-25, and then group 26-100 and 101-500. Silas Lang
QUOTE (rushgoober @ Apr 24 2011, 08:57 AM) Ok, I have heard Godzilla in addition to Don't Fear the Reaper (forgot about that one). It's a very good song, just like Reaper. I guess I just have tended to avoid more straight ahead rock for the most part. I just listened to Godzilla on youtube, and it's good, but it's a really straightforward middle of the road rock song. Catchy, but not terribly exciting to me. I also just checked out the Cities On Flame song. Not too crazy about that one. Very AC/DC like lyrics, but less interesting IMHO. I'm not saying I wouldn't like BOC as I very well may, it's just a group I never explored. I do have a CD by a group called Stalk-Forrest Group which was essentially demos and/or never-released material by BOC just prior to their first album. I haven't listened to it in awhile, but it's quite good.

I thought I had seen it but I guess not... The Barbarian is a very good ELP song, but it's far from my favorite. Achilles Last Stand is a great song, but I don't think it's a strong enough song to justify its length, which drops it a notch for me. Still great, but again there are two or three dozen Zep songs I'd rate higher. edit: Ok, I listened to it again and I was a bit harsh. It really IS a great song, but I still think they've had quite a few stronger songs. That just speaks to how great and deep their discography is. I seriously considered The Musical Box. In fact, the day before I posted my list I listened to it again. I know it might seem trivial, but it's the lyrics on the very end that I really just don't care for, and never have: Why don't you touch me, touch me Why don't you touch me, touch me Touch me now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now ... Sometimes all it takes to really put a damper on a song for me is 10 or 20 seconds of a part I really don't dig. That's why Cygnus X-1 isn't on my list - not crazy about the narration at the beginning, and I especially don't like Geddy screaming at the end. Otherwise they're both great songs, but these factors keep them from a top 500 or even top 1,000 list for me. Goobs, I'd appreciate it if you posted 5-10 songs from your list that would sound great orchestrated on my thread for it. Songs like that I tend to love, so those would be great recommendations. Having said that, obviously this isn't the most immediate music that one can form a definite opinion of very quickly. They would need more attention to absorb and become more familiar with. I liked the 13th Floor Elevators, Amon Duul II, TBrooks & Strange, RWyatt and the first Popol Vuh the most. I Won't Hurt You was a nice folky type tune. Outside of other Popol Vuh songs/albums, I've never heard anything like this. Silas Lang
A couple more that were deserving to be on such a list are The Moody Blues' "Legend Of A Mind" and "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winter Group which could've easily replaced "Shock Me" and "Bringin On The Heartbreak". A couple more from the great Argus (Wishbone Ash) would've been nice.

A couple more from the great Argus (Wishbone Ash) would've been nice. Indeed, that is a GREAT Moodies track, but there are several (obviously) I like even better. It would definitely make a top 1,000 track list for me. Frankenstein is another great song. I listened carefully to all of Argus before I made my list, and while the whole album is great, there was just that one track that did it for me above all others. Shock Me has sentimental value - Kiss was my first love, and that live track with the insane guitar solo just use to kill me when I was a kid. And for some reason I've always loved that Def Leppard song. I also considered Photograph. That's another that would have been in a top 1,000...
