ColdFireYYZ
Can anyone recommend a few essential atmospheric black metal albums to start out with? I'm really getting into Agalloch and Alcest, so I'm looking for more music in that style. There's a ton of videos in this thread and the extreme metal thread, but it's kind of overwhelming and I don't really have time to listen to all of them. Gallowbraid - Ashen EidolonWalknut - Graveforests and Their ShadowsLantlos - .neon (this actually features Neige on vocals)Ulver - BergtattOctober Falls - A Collapse of FaithFalls of Rauros - The Light That Dwells in Rotten WoodColdworld - Melankolie And you'll definitely want to check out Songs of Moors and Misty Fields by Empyrium even though it doesn't really fit into the black metal genre. It's fairly similar to Agalloch.

adace1
Ever wondered what it would be like if King Crimson played black metal? Check out the band Murmur. Some of the best avant-garde BM I've had the pleasure of listening to.http://theneedledrop.com/2014/01/murmur-bull-of-crete/ Btw, they even did a King Crimson cover!http://www.iheart.com/artist/Murmur-111854/songs/Larks-Tongues-in-Aspic-Pt-2-Ki-24643855/
