The Wall

Seeing this show on June 23rd in Toronto with my best friend, really looking forward to it!! I bought his ticket for him for Christmas because I knew he loved The Wall back in high school, and I'm also a massive fan of the album and Pink Floyd.

 

I'm not old enough to have seen Pink Floyd in their heyday, so finally getting to see a Pink Floyd-related show is very fitting for me.

Well, I went to the show this past Saturday night in Toronto.

 

Needless to say...it was amazing.

 

Thanks to all of you who mentioned how good it was and how I should definitely go. There was definitely no stretching the truth. It was quite the experience. I would've regretted not seeing it.

 

Roger Waters can certainly still sing. Great job by him. I'm a huge David Gilmour fan, and wish he'd be part of this...but the guitar player did a fantastic job. I mean, the second solo on Comfortably Numb was one of the greatest solos I've ever witnessed live. Unreal.

 

Highlights of the show for me:

 

Comfortably Numb - again, one of the best solos I've ever seen live. Wow.

Young Lust - I forgot how much this song f'n rocks

Another Brick in The Wall (all 3) - always been a fan of these, but they sounded awesome live

Hey You - one of my all-time favourite songs

Run Like Hell - the videos in this one were really cool

 

The production in general - hearing the helicopters / airplanes circling around my head, and watching the plane flying into the wall was beyond awesome...

 

Overall, I'm so happy I went. I found it gave me a new found respect for the album. Over the years, I haven't found myself listening to it all that much, but watching this whole production really got me looking at this album in a different light. Just fantastic!

 

I'm now joining the bandwagon of others stating that you need to watch this show live. It was worth every penny.

My friend just emailed me 49 pics from the June 19th show in Nashville. I'm going to put them up later tonight. She was in the nosebleed seats and was able to get the entire stage in the shots. You get a real sense of the size of the show.

 

I was on the floor on the 7th row and that stage looked like if filled the entire world to me. It was immediately an entry into my top ten best concerts of all time. Everything that you have heard about the sound is right on. It was amazing how good it sounded. I really don't have too many words to describe what it is like. I bought The Wall when it was new in 1979 and 33 years later it was new again. I can't recommend this show enough.

 

I'll get those pictures up tonight. Some of them are really great.

Yep, the sound was indeed superb.

 

I mean, whenever they had the helicopter / airplane sounds, it was incredible. It felt like they were circling above me. I found that I kept looking up...so very cool.

 

Just a top notch job by their production team.

There was something strange going on during the concert that I couldn't put my finger on at first. Then it hit me. Roger Waters was being so nice and friendly during the show. He referred to his younger self as f*cked-up, but in a joking way (he likes to use the f-word a lot). I guess his reputation as a bitter and cynical man is not as true as it used to be. Since Pink Floyd mended fences and Syd Barrett and Rick Wright died he has become more humble and accommodating and it shows in the live performance. Good for him, who wants to be a cranky jerk their whole life?

Yeah, he has really mellowed. There's an interview he did with Howard Stern a few months back availabe for listening on You Tube. You know Stern, one minute asking about the size of his dick and the next trying to get Rog to rip Gilmour.....to no avail. He and Dave ain't friends, but the old animosity is pretty much a thing of the past (btw, I think Stern does that shit to get people disarmed to elicit an honest response from them). He has become pretty close with Nick Mason the last few years. Search it as I think Floyd/Waters fans will enjoy it.

Roger mentioned the last show is being filmed but for now, look for the ishoot iedit boot. Best unofficial video available that I know of.
