sfuentes
I may be a huge fan of Rush, collecting anything and everything that they release, but I see a true fan of Rush as someone who can appreciate their talent and their shortage of time in the spotlight. They might not be mainstream, but who cares! No matter what, I'll always be a fan of Rush.

physics23
1. Certainly a minimum prerequisite would have to be owning all of their canon CDs. 2. Spreading the light, introducing a new soul to the Rush experience. 3. Being a good person. 4. When life gets tough, Rush are there to make everything better. :)

Snowdog
All excellent responses. To put in my 2 cents, I'd say someone who can appreciate a near 10 minute instrutmental is also critical
Tom Sawyer
I consider a true Rush fan... Someone who can listen to any album from beginning to end and appreciate what went into making each song both lyrically and musically. Someone who loves to see/hear any reference to the band anywhere and gets as giddy as a school girl being asked out for the first time by the first string quarterback. Someone who is PROUD to where their Rush apparel anywhere (certain exceptions for weddings/funerals/bar mitzvahs, etc.) Someone who listens to Rush to put them in a good mood. Someone who likes soup (preferably twice a day) Someone who cannot help play air guitar/bass/drums when Rush is playing. Someone who has a great sense of humor and integrity! I think that sums it up well.

Arndrake
Personally, I don't like to think of myself as a fan. Fan, from the word 'fanatic,' suggests someone who does act all giggly and screamy and has to have any piece of the object of their fanaticism. I think Rush is too good for that. I prefer the term aficionado. While the meaning is still 'fan,' it seems to suggest you have good taste and manners. Not to say that I'm some kind of snob, because I'm not. But I like to think that I am well behaved. If I was ever able to have a conversation with Neil (like that would ever happen), I like to think we could talk about any of a number of topics. Unfortunately, first I would probably be dumb-struck (uh...uh...hi...uh...my name is....uh). Second, he would probably be very terse (Hi, thanks for coming to the show, have fun, bye). I don't think we need to have criteria for fans. I think anybody who likes at least some of their songs should be allowed to the fan party.
