EmotionDetector
I think I recall seeing fans of BUCKETHEAD on here in the past! Well...I just stumbled upon his song "Soothsayer", and it absolutely blew me away! Unbelivable guitar work! Two questions I have: 1) Where do I go about getting his albums? I don't recall ever seeing them in any music store? 2) What albums do you recommend I jump into first? He seems to have a million different ones! Is "Crime Slunk Scene" a good start? Thanks...much appreciated!

tangy
http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?show...3&hl=buckethead ^^^ check out this thread for links to videos and other goodies. Yeah, I have to say TD is the resident expert but I can certainly recommend Crime Slunk Scene. Its got soothsayer and overall is one of my faves. I have about 20 of his discs now and have seen him once. Not checking out Buckethead earlier is one the biggest musical mistakes of my life. Start with CSS if its readily available and then branch out depending on your tastes. BH just may be the most versatile guitarist I have ever heard, one who plays ferocious shred metal, beautiful acoustic, jazzy at time and very often quite funky. He also dabbles into ambient music as well under the name of Death Cube K. Buckethead shows at archive.org There 46 shows to be downloaded or listened to at the archive link above. tangy
http://www.tdrsmusic.com/ you can buy his material from the TDRS site or amazon if you don't have an enlightened record store in town. TDRS is the more direct route and check out the link to see what they have and to check out the free MP3s. Make sure to listen to the Thanatopsis material there. Finding IT
BTW, if you like Buckethead, you might want to check out the late great Shawn Lane. These days, I am listening to some of the more melodic shredders. Guthrie Govan's album, Erotic Cakes (2006, I think) is the best solo guitarist album I have heard in a long long time. Both these guys are all over youtube.

EmotionDetector
Thanks guys! Lots of great advice/help here! I am so disgusted at myself for taking so long to discover Buckethead. I just kept listening to his stuff all day yesterday, and needless to say, the guy is just incredible. Song after song...they were all blowing my mind! So many great tunes! Treeduck, thanks for your breakdown of albums into category! It really helped me in listening to a wide range of sounds! Very helpful indeed. I just quickly made a CD last night for my car...and it looks like this: 1) Stretching Lighthouse 2) The Fairy and The Devil 3) Machete 4) Sketches of Spain (For Miles) 5) King James 6) Plastination Station 7) Angel Monster 8) Soothsayer 9) Night of the Slunk 10) The Way To Heaven 11) Nottingham Lace 12) Cruel Reality of Nature 13) Jordan 14) Spidercrawl 15) Sail On Soothsayer 16) Final Wars I will definitely need to make more, since I've really only struck the tip of the iceberg it seems! I am definitely excited about checking out even more of his material! Tangy, thanks for directing me to that previous thread! I've been reading through it and it's been really informative! Also, thanks for directing me to where I can buy his albums! Are they a good website to deal with? Quick shipping?
tangy
QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Nov 7 2008, 09:57 AM) Tangy, thanks for directing me to that previous thread! I've been reading through it and it's been really informative! Also, thanks for directing me to where I can buy his albums! Are they a good website to deal with? Quick shipping? I have had good experiences with ordering from the TDRS site. Travis Dickerson collaborates with Buckethead on several levels and you are ordering directly from the recording studio. Definitely check out the free MP3's there too. www.buckethead.tk TK is probably the biggest Buckethead forum. If you join you can find links there to free out of print material and lots and lots of bootlegs. You have been Bucketized!
Rand
Don't forget Giant Robot and Day of the Robot. The stuff he did with Praxis is pretty cool too. Transmutation and Metatron.
Stormtron
I wish he'd do another Cobra Strike album. Demented video game music rules. I have pretty much everything up to In Search of The. After that I realized I would never be able to keep up with him. He's probably put out 35 albums since then.

EmotionDetector
I just wanted to thank everyone for their help! It's been over a week since I've started listening to his stuff, and there is still so much music I haven't even touched yet! I definitely plan to buy some albums soon!! Treeduck, your breakdown has helped alot. Actually, by listening to the tracks, I've found a trend in which albums I like more than others. I seem to like a lot of stuff off Decoding The Tomb of Bansheebot, Crime Slunk Scene, Population Override, and Inbred Mountain. Absolutely fantastic guitar tracks here!! BTW...DISECTO ROCKS!!
