ladirushfan80 Posted June 2, 2008 Share Posted June 2, 2008 and I was there.... uh... kinda Detroit is the only other city in the states that they held these air races. The other was San Diego. So, for the Motor City, this was a big deal. I'm sure most of you are quite aware of all the "drama" that's been going on with Detroit City's Mayor, let alone the financial woes we're experiencing here as well... a little fun in the motor city is just what we need. (*HOPEFULLY *tonite we will be celebrating bringing home Stanley as well, and let the party in D-Town continue!! ) Now grant it, I went with my usual partner in crime, Sheri, and our friend Lisa. We went on this HUGE yacht to watch the air races from the Detroit River. After having only gotten 3 hours of sleep from the previous evenings events, we were up and moving heading toward Detroit @ 10am on Sunday. We had to be downtown by 11am, and the boat starting boarding people @ noon, then leaving promptly @ 12:30. We ran into some LOVELY heavy traffic heading into the city. As soon as we hit Joe Louis arena, it was pretty heavy with peeps heading downtown. If anyone can get the opportunity to check out any of the remaining air races, i highly recommend it. One of my co-workers was also there yesterday, and he was MUCH closer than i was. he got some fabulous shots of the races. If i can get some more pics, i'll be happy to post 'em.
