Screvato
I used to have this song on an old K-Tel cassette. I hated it back then too.

Jeez, I wish he would. He might then be slightly interesting. I just like the song, always have. Doesn't mean he isn't interesting. I had to put up with a decade of '80s crap in my teens/20's. Most of that was boring as sh*t...in my opinion. I like the song. I recently saw a thread about the Pet Shop Boys, now IMO they were terrible, but I don't go around knocking people for liking their songs.

Christy Burke (as we Irish love calling him) is still shite though! Blonde Hair, Blue Jeans, the song he wrote about his mistress is probably the nadir of a bottom of the barrel career. He's still married to the Lady In Red though! And he's the dad of an ex-Miss World. FACTOIDS ABOUT OUR CHRISTY!! He was born in Argentinia. This December he will be the first Western act to play in Iran since the 1979 revolution! Bill Bailey calls him the "monobrowed purveyor of ultimate filth". There is a hillbilly version of Lady in Red called "Cousin In Red".

Actually, Bill's lyrics are a touch more interesting than De Burgh's - "Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill the trolls, Hunt them down, there will be no clemency" This year's classic take on The Killers - "I've got ham, but I'm not a hamster"

Magical chanting is no crime, When you're suckled by a blind alsatian. Who stole the leg of time? A dozen monkeys on a dozen typewriters could come up with better lyrics than that. The Lady is Dead (as we used to call it) would have to make the list of top 10 lamest tunes I had the misfortune of being forced to play over and over and over. 1986 was a pretty lousy year for top 40 radio... although I'd certainly take it over any of the last 10 years or so. I finally got to rock radio a few years later, but the station was playing a lot of lame tunes that had no business being played on a serious rock station. Don't Pay the Ferryman being one of them. I was very pleased to drop it from the music library.

Aaaaggghhhh! Rick Astley!!! I always got the biggest kick out of him. The "music" was awful, but there was something so amusing about matching that voice with that face...ya just had to laugh at it. He was tailor-made for American Idol...or the Brit version, in his case.

Same here! When I hear that album I'm filled with feelings of loathing and revulsion. It's definitely his masterwork. Is/was Chris Du Bergh big in the U.K.? He had those two hits here in the U.S. but that's it.
