  1. I went with a totally open-minded (and awesome) date, and I'm not sure which of us laughed louder. Great movie! Almost every line was funny.
  2. I am still mourning the loss of The Guiding Light. My earliest childhood memories were of watching that show with my mom. And to think they're going to end As the World Turns this Fall too....and keep that ridiculous The Bold and The Beautiful on the air? Y&R is not my fav...but is my only hope...lol.
  3. I gave my son (10) a choice of movies to see this weekend, and he chose Marmaduke first and then The A Team....sigh. I'll be seeing Toy Story 3 (and probably Shrek 3) on my own it appears...but I so can't wait. Who's seen it and what's your verdicts? Cel
  4. QUOTE (Ya_Big_Tree @ May 21 2010, 02:07 PM) QUOTE (-D-RocK- @ May 19 2010, 09:54 PM) Is it just me or does Ellen Degenerate make this show even worse? I dunno if anything could make the show any worse... it's pretty awful already. It's so awful it needs a bunch of crayon drawn stink lines all around the contestants and judges. I like Ellen. And I enjoy watching the show. But sometimes it's a guilty pleasure, as I'm embarrassed for the contestants having to put up with the judges (more so last year with the Paula fiasco, but this year w/ Casey being asked to take off his shirt). But you can't deny the talented people who've been "discovered" on this show who otherwise would've probably gone unknown, so I think the good outweighs the bad. I'm curious to see what happens when Simon leaves. Not sure the show will survive unless they bring in a real heavy hitter. I've heard rumor that Adam Lambert might be a judge. I don't see that working out very well. Guess we'll see.
  5. QUOTE (Some Half-Forgotten Stranger @ May 21 2010, 07:05 PM)QUOTE (Celine @ May 21 2010, 03:58 PM) Debating whether I should spend my weekend catching up on this season of Lost in preparation for the Grand Finale.....or just wait until it comes out on DVD. Something tells me laundry and yardwork may not get done this weekend....lol. Whatever you do stop after the fifth season...just pretend the 6th season never existed...for Gods sake heed my words . Funny. Yes, I've had a little trouble following this season....and missing episodes here and there makes it darn near impossible, so I just gave up. Have seen every season before though...usually by waiting and watching on Netflix. Just seems easier that way. But, curiosity being what it is....I'll probably have a Lost cram session on ABC.com tomorrow and Sunday. Assuming we can still do that?

  8. Am I crazy or did Robin Williams have a cameo in this movie? (As Hammer's flunkie) If it's not Williams, would someone please tell me who it is....or I may never sleep.
  9. Goobs, I will respectfully agree to disagree. But it's a rather unfair argument. I'm a tad bit obsessed with Buckley, not just this song. If you're not familiar with him, check out his Grace LP. His voice, range, and guitar abilities are awe-inspiring. Such a shame he died so young. But I did like the youtube version of k.d.'s Hallelujah better than the other version you posted. But....nothing beats this!! (except maybe his live version...lol) Jeff Buckley: Hallelujah (studio version)
  10. I dunno, Goobs. I think I still prefer Buckley, Lee, and Rufus Wainwright's versions of this song better. But thanks for sharing this one. I'd never heard it before. I think the judges are setting Lee up to take this thing, which could backfire -- like it did for Adam. As long as Crystal and Lee are in the top two, it's a win/win situation.
  11. As a ginormous Jeff Buckley fan, I was stunned to hear Lee sing the hell out of Hallelujah tonight. I'll never say he sang it better....but he surely sang it as well as Buckley. I've always been a Crystal fan...but tonight I think Lee won me over. Wow. Just wow. Either way, no doubt that it'll be between Crystal and Lee (Casey is cute and sweet, but not even close to these two in caliber of singing). And I don't even care who wins it. I love them both...and it seems the one who comes in second is usually more successful anyway....unless you shoot yourself in the foot (Adam Lambert).
  12. Figures I skip a week and it's the best episode yet?? I'll be sure to watch the replay next week.
  13. Just my input as a woman on Soprano's. I recently started watching this series on someone else's suggestion....had never seen one episode before, but had heard good things about it. Initially, there were a few uneasy moments for me -- and I was a bit disappointed in the portrayal of females. But I hung in there. Am about halfway through the first season now (maybe more)...and I can say I am genuinely enjoying it. Yes, there's a booby shot in almost every episode...and someone gets shot in almost every episode....but the character development and storyline are good. And I'm not sure of the name of the guy who plays the lead character....but he's great. James Garafino maybe? (something like that) And it's surprisingly funny. I don't think there's been one episode that hasn't made me laugh out loud. So good luck trying to get your wife to watch it. I think it's worth the effort. I watch it while I'm on the treadmill....and it makes the time fly by. Refreshing to actually laugh now and then while I'm killing myself on the treadmill. Let us know if you guys try it and what the Mrs. thinks. Celine
  14. Just a thought: If you're nominated....write an acceptance speech!! (Save us all the pain of watching you stumble through your shock). Martin and Baldwin are entertaining (begrudgingly complimenting Baldwin)....but so far the rest of show is zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
  15. Saw it last night....it was just okay....and I'm a huge Depp fan, with or without Burton.
  16. The one where the woman slurps her yogurt out of the cup...and then wipes the mess off her chin. It makes my skin crawl.
  17. Just got back from seeing it....it was incredible. Merry Christmas! Cel
  18. Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - with Ethan Hawke (my next ex husband) Great movie!! I'd give it a 9+

    A Haunting

I've never watched an entire episode, but occasionally my kids will turn it on and conveniently leave...and, in the time it's taken me to run and change the channel, it's scared the crap out of me. I'm not sure whether this show is real or not, but I do believe in ghostly experiences because I've had two of them in my lifetime. The strange thing about both of them is that I didn't know they were happening at the time. One as a child, I didn't find out until 30 years later when my aunt told me that her old ranch house in West Texas was, in fact, haunted and described how people who slept in a certain bedroom would get the sensations of having chills and shaking, because an Indian slave had died in that room after having been bitten by a rattle snake. I had that exact experience in that bedroom as a child, and, when I told my parents about it (it felt like my bed was shaking), they, knowing that if I found out it was a haunted house would insist on leaving immediately and spoiling the family vacation (yes, I was, am, and always will be a chicken), chose not to tell me. They just let me sleep with them. The second one was a few years ago. My then boyfriend and I had rented a room in a B&B in Beaufort, NC, which I would later come to find out is one of the most haunted cities in the country?? Well, late one night as we were getting ready for bed, we could hear what sounded like a small child playing outside in the hallway, rolling marbles across the floor and also running up and down the stairs. We both commented that it was strange considering how late it was but just assumed it was a family on vacation and didn't think much of it. The next morning, at breakfast, there, in fact, was a young couple with a small child at our table, the only other people there that morning. In talking to them, I commented that we had heard him playing out in the hall the night before, and the couple looked at each other and said: Oh, we didn't stay in the house last night, we stayed in the cabin out back. We're friends of the owners. We don't sleep in the house. Hmmmm.... So, later, when the owner came to sit down at breakfast and visit with us, we were telling her how much we had enjoyed our stay, and asked if there was anyone else staying in the other bedrooms. She said: Nope, you had the house to yourself last night. Well, that's interesting, because we heard a small child playing outside our door in the hallway. That's when she proceeded to tell us about the family who used to live in that particular house in the early 1900's and that a number of their children had died there. She said her friends won't even sleep in the house anymore because of how creeped out they were about it. She went on to tell us about other ghostly experiences that had occurred in that house, and, upon seeing the look on my face, she assured me that the room we stayed in was not haunted...yeah, right. She also said she doesn't tell boarders about it for fear it will keep them from renting from them. Good call.....I know I'll never go back...lol. Sorry...went on kind of long...but that show always makes me remember these incidents...which is why I DON'T watch it. Cel
  20. I watched it yesterday (I know, I lose points for handing in my review late). Although it's not my normal genre, I liked it. I especially like the ending, where you can visibly see Batty's transformation. The dove was great symbolism. Batty: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. I would've never thought about Ford's character also being a robot if I hadn't read Jack's post first, but I looked for different signs throughout the movie...and my official opinion is...I don't know. Apparently, from my reading, the director's cut has a bit more information, as in they talk about his female love interest doesn't have the four year life span built in...which would make one think that they left to live out a normal life span together. Anyway...good first movie. So what's next?
  21. Well, I think the fact that Archie repeated "Imagine" hurt him a lot. He did an incredible job with it...again...but it lost its "wow" factor, because most who followed the season heard it at least once before...I know I replayed it on YouTube several times. But I can see how you'd be blown away by Archie having heard that for the first time. He does an amazing job with that song. But Cook could've just as easily repeated his version of "Hello" or "Billy Jean" -- yes, Michael Jackson's song -- and you would've been just as wowed. Check them out on YouTube. Cook won over a LOT of viewers on those two songs. And then, as Michael Johns and Justin Castro (check out his version of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujiah on YouTube) got voted off, he picked up their followers too. I'm just glad they outnumbered the teenaged girl crowd and actually voted. I'm anxious to see what becomes of the both of them. They are both very talented, and I think they both showed a lot of class.
  22. Kind of happy I was wrong. I'm sure Cook will do great. And winning Idol doesn't HAVE to be a curse. Look at Carrie Underwood. I pulled for the rocker, Bo Bice, who came in 2nd to Carrie that year....and now she's won her second top female performer CMA....and Bo...well, he'll be singing at our local indian casino at the end of the month.
  23. We are in serious need of more estrogen in this group...Come on, ladies...I already made a non-estrogen choice (for fear of getting voted off the island before we even started)...I need someone braver than me to nominate some good chick flick mush. Or Goose?...since you STILL haven't made your selection...lol. Got my "man movie" in today and a long kidless weekend...can't wait to watch it. Cheers, Cel
  24. I watched most of it. And it went as expected. Both sang well....Judges did all but kiss Archeletta's butt. I just wonder if they really want Cook to win so they over-praise Archelleta so Cook's voters will call more...or if they want Archie to win so they can take over the puppet strings from his dad and have him all to themselves. I just know that if I had to choose a Cook or Archeletta CD to purchase...it would be Cook's....no question about it. I just prefer his style of music. Regardless, Cook's going to make a fortune advertising whatever the hell he put on his head to actually give him hair!! Is it just me, or was there a drastic change for the better in Cook's hairline? Well...guess that's off topic...sorry. I say Archie wins....but Cook becomes the more successful.
  25. Well, there's Lost....and then there's reruns of Lost.
