UMM..NO they never sign at meet and greets. if you are overseas the best bet is to find out what hotel they are at and pray you see them. BTW don't be a hounding, over-the-top a-hole and you might get an autograph. and please don't hound neil..he hates fans like that!

I have seen Rush 14 times and I have tried hard but never even got close to them. I have even sent letters to their management requesting autographs and received absolutely no response. I think that is my only complaint about my favorite group and that is they seem to dislike their fans and/or are sick of them. Considering I have spent 4 hours every time driving to 14 of their concerts, bought tour books and shirts, bought every single album then every album on cd when cd's came out I am sure I have gave them enough money to pay a house payment or two and they wont even take two seconds to sign a picture and send to me. Kind of sucks but what can you do? I sent a letter to Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and got a autographed picture with my name on it in about a month. Rush! Appreciate your fans! We pay your bills with our money.

if you were on the board a few months ago you should have seen the posts where many fans, myself included sent packages to venues to have rush sign items... many got a great surprise in the mail. ITEMS SIGNED BY GEDDY , NEIL AND ALEX... it does happen. try doing this during the next tour.. a second leg is in the works for springof 2008. good luck! trink39.gif

Ok, maybe this was the wrong question to ask with respect to Rush. Maybe they're too "big" or they've had bad experiences with "fans" in the past...

LOL, I'm not a stalker and neither a girl so I wont hunt them down to their hotel!! I just usually wait (along with a handful of other fans) after the show has ended for the band to come out and it worked so far...

Oh, and I usually don't care for their private lives, I'm just interested in the music....

have a nice day! ;-)

Rush do sign things. Just because one guy didn't get anything, it doesn't mean it does not happen.

They mostly reserve their time for signing things that go up for charity auction, as well as radio giveaways and things like that. They also are very cautious as to what they sign, because there are a lot of idiots out there that only want stuff signed so they can sell it on eBay. Other times, they just don't feel like being Rush that day. Maybe someone caught them at a bad time, or they just want a day off, especially at the end of a tour, or they don't want to have too much attention drawn to them, like Neil.

I know a guy who met Neil and had dinner with him, because Neil was friends with his father. Neil insisted on the guy calling him Neil, and talking drum talk and music and books and stuff, just like he was any other human being shooting the shit over a good meal.

I'm greatful enough Rush are still on tour. I don't feel like they owe it to me to sign anything, just because I've given them so much of my money over the years. I was paying for what I got with that money, great music, great shirts, great books and great concert experiences, so I cannot complain.

I would just love to be able to shake their hands and say "thank you" for doing it the right way all these years, and for sticking it out with us idiotic fans that sometimes embarass the shit out of them.

^^My thoughts exactly...

BTW, I like your user name ;-)

Thanks! Glad you like it. biggrin.gif I take it you're a Porcupine Tree fan then? So many Rush related user names that were already taken, so I went with one of my other all time favorite bands, and albums.

Also nice to know you feel the same way I do regarding what I said about Rush signing things. trink39.gif

EDIT: I meant to say that I saw Porcupine Tree in Toronto a few months back, and had the pleasure of meeting Steve Wilson after the show when the band stayed back to sign autographs before getting on the bus. A true gentlemen, and very thankful for fans staying behind to say 'Hi'. It's awesome when they do that, but I don't expect it of them, so it makes it an extra special treat!

On the subject of Autographs, I have just dropped off a copy of Roadshow & the cover of A.T.W.A.S at the SECC in Glasgow with a self Addressed envelope. The girl at the reception was very nice and said she'd pass it on to the promoter which is how all mail for bands is handled. I'll let you know if I get it back and if it's signed. confused13.gif

I have even sent letters to their management requesting autographs and received absolutely no response.

Who the hell would want the autographs of their management?

Just messing of course. However, the first thing your doing is sending it to their management. As someone pointed out, they get lots of these requests (I doubt hundreds of thousands, maybe through the span of 30 years though) and management may choose to throw these out. That's just how it works.

If I could refer to a recent update Neil gave on his website, he mentions people holding up signs at the shows which he felt were worthy of that person getting a complementary pair drum sticks. Then there were people who weren't so clever and were kinda begging for sticks and they probably wouldn't get anything.

I also could refer to the song that alot of people do on this subject.. the lyrics of "Limelight."

So maybe what you have to do is get the attention of a creative band is to be creative yourself, but don't be whoring for it. It's sort of like love... they say don't look for it, because it will come when you're not even looking.

I'm not saying go out of your way either, in case it leads to no result.

To add to this, and to the point of them standing outside after shows.. in Noblesville as we were leaving the back entrance, there were sherrif's escorts leaving and then there was a bus and a camper being escorted out immediately after the show. So it may not be them who decide not to stay after the show. They may have to actually BE somewhere after the show and have to be on schedule, so they really may not have those luxuries.

Then of course it could be to their best interests too.

Meeting them is just gravy.
