I actually watched a movie today called "First Do No Harm". Has anyone seen this? It's about a mother (played by Meryl Streep) and her son who has epilepsy. After trying all kinds of medications on him, and none of them working, she finds out about the ketogenic diet (I think that's what it was called). This is a special diet that if followed very strictly, can stop seizures for good. It worked for the boy in the movie. The movie is based on real events, and this diet is said to have worked successfully on several people with epilepsy, to the point where they no longer take medication and haven't had any more seizures. I think it's worth checking out  smile.gif

That's the right name of the diet, The Ketogenic Diet. I know about it, but I've never tried it.

Thanks for the heads-up on "First Do No Harm" Amazon has it for $6.99. I wish I had known it was on, I would have checked it out.

Sure wink.gif It was just ironic that I happened to watch it yesterday on a whim (hanging out with my grandma tongue.gif ), and then saw this thread late last night. Anyway, it's very interesting! Perhaps you'll find it helpful drumnut trink39.gif

Good today, had a bad headache today, but no seizures.

Good days are good. smile.gif

Are Migraines a symptom of your epilepsy? They predate my prognosis by about 5 yrs, the family physician could never understand why I had such terrible migraines until I had my first seizure in High School, and then he was like, "Okay I see a connection here." wacko.gif

I didn't have many before I started having seizures, but after the years of seizures I've had, I get some where I have to sit down or I'll fall down. I've had some doozie's though, I've had seizures where I lay in bed for days and can't even look at a bright light or the sun because of migraines. I love being out in the sun and heat as long as there's no humidity.

I ALWAYS (ugh) have a migraine after a seizure, so I know exactly where you are coming from on that. I usually pass out after one and sleep for about a day. But I have aura seizures, so I know when exactly I am going to have one and can get help if needed.

What meds are you on? I used to be on Tegretol, but it stopped being effective after awhile. I recently switched to a newer drug, Zonegran, more expensive, but REALLY effective. biggrin.gif

I've taken Zonegran, but it never controlled my seizures. I wasn't on it very long, but it's been years since I've taken it. Maybe I should run it by my Dr. I've never tried Tegretol. Right now I'm taking Lamictal, 400mg AM & PM. I have taken Dilantin and Depakote. Depakote made me throw up, and Dilantin made me feel like I was on speed. My appetite was terrible. Lamictal makes me tired and messes with my appetite, but not as bad as bad as Dilantin did. Right now Lamictal seems to be a good drug for me, I just need to make sure I eat right. Now that I'm on disability, my co-pay for drugs is only $2.00. I think I've tried most drugs out there for Epilepsy.

Good today, just doing more cleaning, throwing away, and getting ready to paint. Did you ever realize how much junk you have you really didn't notice until you decide to move? confused13.gif

Especially when you have to haul all this 'junk' more than 3000 miles!

Fine today, moving back out west from the frigid cold and s**w of NW PA!

Las Vegas to be exact! poker2.gif poker1.gif

Ahh, Vegas. There's so much fun to be had there, but it's hot and dry as can be!

Also the future site of my marriage. (If I ever meet a guy!~LOL)

(I've always wanted to get married in Vegas by an Elvis impersonator.)

I Love the dry heat!!! I worked out in it for almost 11 years! I wouldn't have been able to do it if it was humid like it is here back east. Give me 100 degrees plus out in the dry heat all day, I love it!!! Vegas is a great place for weddings, you can get married in less than an hour out there, providing you have a groom... unsure.gif tongue.gif

When you meet that guy and really want to make an entrance in Vegas, call The Flying Elvi! icon_really_happy_guy.gif

The puppy is getting bigger and stronger, and his teeth aren't as "puppy sharp" as they were. Tomorrow morning, the owner of the painting company is coming over to give us an estimate. (My Dad and I both smoke, so there's a lot of smoke odor to cover up.) We're throwing stuff away we don't need or want, and packing the things we do. I'm so excited about the move, I never thought I'd live in Vegas again! It's so nice out there year 'round! It hardly, if ever, snows out there, and the sun shines 365 days a year unless it rains! Everybody thinks the people who live there gamble all the time, when I lived there before, I hardly ever did! If you live there, it's not as exciting as when you just go to gamble and visit. When you live there, you spend money to live, not to gamble all the time. The only time I gambled out there was when someone came to visit. Then, I watched them blow their money! laugh.gif

I did hit a Royal Flush on a video Poker machine once at Arizona Charlies, they came and paid me $1000.00 cash! I hardly ever went downtown to the bigger casinos because the machines are tighter, and the traffic was terrible! Damn tourists! angry.gif I hardly ever stood in line @ the bank to cash my paycheck because the casino's will cash your check. They want your money in the machines and on the tables! I heart.gif Vegas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS DS! bekloppt.gif

Thanks for asking DS, how I'm doing good, no seizures lately. Just sticking with the things that work, eat right, take my meds and get plenty of rest. I miss being able to drive, everytime I have one, I lose my driver's license for 6 months. Not that I can really afford to drive, it's that feeling of accomplishment!

Oh, and to have my DL in my wallet so I can remember who I am! laugh.gif

laugh.gif Texas? tongue.gif I lived in San Antonio years ago when my Father was in the Air Force, it only snowed once when we lived there. I was pretty young then so I don't remember it. I do remember the sunshine though. We're packing slowly because it's going to be a few months before we go, this way, we can throw away stuff we never use, and pack the stuff we want. It's a good way to get rid of garbage we never use!

Well it doesn't snow very often in DFW area, so we got a treat/curse. LOL I like the cold, but don't like the precipitation that comes with it.

Packing slowly is good, because you can take your time to get rid of the junk. But then again, when I get on a cleaning spree, EVERYTHING GETS TOSSED! lol

We are throwing away a LOT of junk, so it's almost going to be like starting all over again. This is going to big change in my life that I hope is going to make a big difference in my Seizure control. I REALLY miss being warm all the time! No Seizures today, I'm too pumped about moving back home!!!

I love moving, especially when it's to Las Vegas!!! 653.gif cheer.gif applaudit.gif
