Dave G
This is the first time I've heard anyone mention Jean Michel Jarre on a message board since...heck, I don't think I EVER have. I remember writing a paper about his Rendezvous album when I was in high school. The video for "Rendezvous IV" was evening getting a little MTV play at the time. Phoenix
Cool I never thought that so many around here know about JMJ. I heard him since I get my first record in 1986. This is synthesizer at his best. Does anybody know his live performance in Moskow. I have a DVD of that show. Great stuff.

The Notorious B.S.G.
All the dinosaurs, and then a few more (just to show I'm sorta hip, in a 1994 sorta way.) Who Floyd Zep Yes Aerosmith (pre-breakup) Stones (67-72) Genesis (BOTH Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, unlike many Genesis snobs, Phil did some GREAT stuff with Genesis before TOTALLY selling out in his solo career, and the last few Genesis albums. So there.) Van Halen (both incarnations, see note above) Foo Fighters Alice in Chains ...lots more, but my brain is racked from.......... being racked. madra sneachta
I listen to most of the rock/ metal bands already mentioned, and have been very fond of Marillion over the years. Less well known/popular artists I'm into are - Hamell on Trial - An acoustic punk poet from Syracuse, NY. Pure genius live Mano Negra (and more recently founder Manu Chao's solo stuff) - Punk, reggae, salsa, ska, jazz, latin, country.....and that's just the intros. White Stripes, Soledad Brothers, Black Keys...mean and dirty blues A lot of Irish stuff as well - The Frames, Horslips, Snow Patrol. Jack L and a Welsh rap collective from Newport called Goldie Lookin' Chain

No. that last thing I had of his was Rendezvous. when I listen to the last track, 'Last Rendezvous' I can't help but get a tear in my eye. For anyone who doesn't know it, it was subtitled 'Ron's Piece'. Ron, was Ron McNair. The saxaphone on this piece was played by a guy called Pierre Gossez. It would be easier to explain if I quoted JMJ here. QUOTE This record is dedicated to Ron McNair and the six astronauts who died aboard the Challenger Shuttle on 28th January, 1986 RON'S PIECE: This piece was specially composed for Ron to play on his saxaphone in the shuttle and was to become the first musical piece played and recorded in space. Ron was so excited about this piece that he rehearsed it continuously until the last moment. May the memory of my friend the astronaut and the artist Ron McNair live on through this piece. Jean-Michel Jarre Now, I defy anyone who reads this to listen to Last Rendezvous without crying.
