Another one that took place in AZ was Pump up the Volume, with Christian Slater (the guy who sounds like Jack Nicholson without trying).

Good call. that is an awesome flick.

Having said that Slater tries TOO hard to be like Jack later on in his career...probably killed his career actually. A good example is that very dark, morbid comedy Very Bad Things. I like the movie but Slater was way over the top in that one.

Speaking of disturbing flicks concerning high school anybody remember The River's Edge? Speaking of Christian Slater how about Heathers? Another 80's flick Vison Quest with Mathew Modine.

Another one for the dark and disturbing group Elephant which is based on Columbine.

Wierd Science had a message. Lisa was trying to get the guys to be confident in themselves in order to find true love.

How about Some Kind of Wonderful? I always enjoyed the look on Keith and Duncan's faces near the end when Amanda slaps Hardy... twice!

She's Having A Baby: I guess this was more young adult, but Kevin Bacon's character seemed rather immature for most of the film. Even though he was an adult with adult responsibilities, you got the sense he wanted to still be a kid, until his wife almost loses the baby. That whole segment still makes me weepy.

John Hughes was the master of the 80's coming of age film. Even if he didn't direct them, he still had the midas touch.

Oh I loved Weird Science. Kelly Le Brock was a hot babe then. unsure.gif

After reading all posts I saw no mention of Risky Business starring the

young & upcoming Tom Cruise. Classic line: Sometimes ya just gotta say

What the F**k!

stand by me.

Definitely. I like the last lines of the book that were written "I never had friends again like the ones I had when I was twelve. Does anyone?" It reminds me of those simpler, worry-free times when I was that age.

How can we forget Grease??

I thought of Grease. Great movie, but way too unrealistic to make it on my list with my original criteria. Still, a majorly fun movie, and pretty much the only musical I can stand. tongue.gif

A fantastic movie. The other day, I was just thinking of the story within the story, of the complete and total barf-o-rama. Great portrayal of a budding writer, made even better by the line, "Then what happens...?"

I personally don't like this movie, but what about Footloose

If there's one thing that was learned during the 80's was that dancing can cure all ills.

Speaking specifically of "Footloose" and "Dirty Dancing".

A skeleton from my past... My drunk wedding guy specialty used to be a Kevin Bacon a-la-Footloose dance solo.
