Was listening to his Fillmore tapes over the weekend and thought that Tom Petty fits the bill. He doesn't have a great voice but it really suites his music. It's hard to imagine anyone else singing his songs. Even when Johnny Cash covered I Won't Back Down, it just sounded off.  

i never liked his voice even for his own music, which im already not the biggest fan of, but i completely understand
