I love all of Pearl Jam, but this is my vote for their most underrated album. I think it's bloody marvellous with one of my all time favourite songs, Sirens.

I don't care if the album pushes no boundaries. I don't care at all when the songs are so full of passion and heart and maturity.

Also in my top 5 for the year

My top five albums this year:

1. The Cure- Songs Of A Lost World

2. Pearl Jam- Dark Matter

3. Nightwish- Yesterwynde

4. Judas Priest- Invincible Shield

5. Saxon- Hell, Fire And Damnation

And a close sixth is:

6. Yenisei- Home (beautiful mostly instrumental post-rock/prog from Poland)

Simone Simons and Taylor Swift are peaking just around the corner.

Nightwish- Yesterwynde

The more I listen, the more of the old magic I hear. This is a wonderful album that does take a little effort to truly take in.

Simone Simons- Vermillion

Exquisite album

Posted (edited)

Buddy listened with Mick:

The Cure- Disintegration

XTC- Mummer

Kylie Minogue- Kylie Minogue

Loved all three. XTC was a first time listen.

I've got two sets of new speakers, one is the A set and one is the B set. The Q Acoustics 5020 is the B set and the Triangle Borea Bro 3 is the A set. I'm just running them in with Invincible Shield, switching from A to B. I'm currently on Gate of Hell with the Q Acoustics.

I'm not sure which is best so far. Every time I switch speakers the riffs sound nastier with even bigger scale!

I'm on The Lodger now with the Q Acoustics. The Q Acoustics aren't very tall, 11 inches but also 11 inches deep, and weigh a ton!

That sounds like a terrific set up!

Mariah Carey- The Emancipation Of Mimi

Nightwish- Yesterwynde

Two terrific albums. The new Nightwish album is exceeding all expectations for me, it really does reward time and patience. Could the mix be better? Absolutely, but song for song I think it's Nightwish back to their best, moving their sound forwards with nods to their past.

An album rapidly rising to the top of list of favourite albums ever. I have really been absorbed in its brilliance recently and it is likely joining Ten, Third Eye Blinds debut, Lacuna Coil's Karmacode and Machine Head's The Blackening in my top five albums!

I have a soft spot for it - being in the right place at the right time when the band toured Australia. I saw a show in Sydney on Saturday and then hadn't planned to go to Canberra during the week. I was on yard duty (I was a teacher) having a crappy day, so hopped in the car and drove two and a half hours to Canberra to see if I could get a ticket. I purchased a ticket and lined up at the door which was a different door to where the main crowd was lining up. Anyway, 'my' door opened and I casually walked to the front and stood right under where Robert Smith's microphone was - the 'main' door had not opened yet. Anyway, front row and Robert Smith shaking his head and sweating on me - smallest venue of the tour. Great look at the guitars, set up etc. The opening of 'Out of This World' and 'Watching Me Fall' and a bunch of other songs from this album was just killer. One of my best concert experiences ever, and I wasn't meant to be there! Again, a soft spot for the album due to these circumstances.

I'm guiding Mick through The Cure. He enjoyed Disintegration, he then went straight to the start. I am curious what newer listeners make of their discography!
