Judas Priest- Invincible Shield

These songs have really grown on me with my most recent listening:

As God Is My Witness

Escape From Reality

Sons Of Thunder

The Lodger (honestly, Vengeance Is Mine would have been a better title)

Honestly when I saw the number of songs on the deluxe edition, I knew it would take a while to truly digest everything. But my god is it worth it!

Iced Earth- Dystopia

Say what you will about the state of the band these days, what will never change is the fact I think Iced Earth are one of the top metal bands of all time.

Saxon- Hell, Fire And Damnation

Oh, I didn't enjoy this when it came out a few weeks back. Came back to it today, and had a marvellous time!

I played just the 2nd half last night and right now.

and sorry IMO it would still make a weaker album on the whole.

BUT i LOVE As God is My Witness, Escape From Reality, Giants In the Sky and the Lodger. Although i hate the way the Lodger just.....stops.  it like they hit the stop button while recording and left it, lol.  Now other songs do this but for some reason that sounds really clunky to me.

I do not know whys i don't like a song like Trial By Fire.  it's pretty Classic modern JP. but it bores me.

Sons of Thunder is meh.

Vicious Cycle is good but it ends just when i think "hey this is fun" wish it was a tad longer.

Bottom line is i'm glad that first half is there.  i think it bolsters and does raise the whole project.

Having said that i like the 2nd half.  Nothing BAD just very much less impactful is my verdict.

The way Lodger ends makes me think the band couldn't decide quite how to complete the song, so yeah, I get why it's a bonus track. I enjoy all the bonus tracks, but the more I listen...the more I think the first two of them sound quite standard.

The album definitely has a stronger first half, the the second half is not at all weak. I'm coming to enjoy this album more and more.

Definitely winds down but it's also as strong as many of their best albums best sides. I'm not going to claim the album starts strong then the second side drops the ball. It's a very consistent album, there are no weak moments for me, but tracks one to six are just superb, and I love the rest regardless.

In fact Escape From Reality and Sons Of Thunder are the two songs I'm enjoying the absolute most today.

Firepower is, if we are going to discuss albums that remain at an 11 the entire time, stronger overall for me

Judas Priest Invincible Shield (8/10)

Is this my fav JP album? no.  Do i think it's a little long and they left some fat on there? yes.

However.  this is still a remarkable record and i don't think i can be any prouder of one of my fav bands.  i went in thinking there's no way they are besting Firepower.  That album was like an adrenaline shot and it nearly winded me from start to finish.  this album.....honestly none of it gives me that specific feeling.

I know that sounds like a bash but it's not.  This album while true not as uniformly strong to me......has it's own vibe and mood that helps it stand on it's own.  and that is amazing for a 50 year band.

and in defense of IS.  to thoes fans who won't give newer JP a chance cause KK ain't involved or glenn isn't as involved for health reasons (and yes there are)........you guys are damn fools.  These last 2 albums are as good as ANY prime  KK era Priest and i stand by that.

Do you think Ram it Down would be a stronger album if Fire Burns Below and Thunder Road were included on the original release?

Yes. JP have quite a few non album tracks that could have bettered the albums they were recorded for
