    Why Rush

It was 1977 or 78 (who's counting?). I was 14 years old and my favorite bands were KISS, Ted Nugent, Aerosmith. My friend from down the street came up to me in the hall at school and said, "come over and check out this new album I just bought by a band called RUSH." so I rode my bike to his house after school. He was so excited to introduce me to this new band. He was like "man before I put this on look at the inside cover. There's only 3 guys and they create so much energy and music, you won't believe it." (he pointed at Geddy Lee's picture) "that guy plays bass, and keyboards and sings." He put on A Farewell to Kings and my perspective on rock music has never been the same. Immediately I knew this was so different. Wow! who remembers the first time they heard RUSH?

    Bootlegs

I know this post probably doesn't belong in the main forum, however I wanted to gain as big a response as possible. Sorry! So, anyway, at the ripe age of 17, I have only recently discovered the wonders of Rush concert bootlegs. They are still a new concept to me, so I have a few questions I'd greatly appreciate any answers to. 1) Where can I find the best quality Rush concert bootlegs? 2) Is there one place where I can find all Rush bootlegs, or do I have to scour numerous sources? 3) Are there bootlegs in existence for every concert Rush have done? 4) Will any of you be bootlegging the R40 tour? 5) What would you say is the best Rush bootleg?? Thank you in advance!! :D
  3. Hey Guys!!! One of my friends bailed on me for my 19 hour cross country road trip to see the opening night show!!! Section 112, Row H, Seat 13... It is Geddy side of the stage right next to the stage!!! http://s1.ticketm.net/tm/en-us/tmimages/venue/maps/agf/61056s.gif I paid $245 for the ticket, and I'm asking exactly that!!! Please PM if interested!!!
  4. Not seen a topic thread on this but who's releasing all these bootlegs officially. Have just seen one called The Lady Gone Electric 1974 which has entered the UK rock charts. Due for release on 27th April is Rush at the Kiel Auditorium 1980. Are they being re mastered? Who is releasing them and are they official releases?
  5. I found this below article at Rushisaband.com "Speaking of which, animator Norma V. Toraya (aka Crankbunny) has done some work for Rush on recent tours and looks to be doing some work for the R40 Live tour as well, and she may have given away a potential setlist clue via her Instagram account earlier this week. She put up a post this past Wednesday that included an #R40 hashtag, and showed a computer screen with some animation software running. There were a few movie (.mov) files listed where the filenames contain the words Geddy, Alex and Neil, and in the upper left of the photo was an audio file referencing the title of a Rush song. The Instagram account in question has since been made private, but if you are itching to know what the potential spoiler was, just ask around. It isn't a huge spoiler (assuming it even is a spoiler) in the grand scheme of things since it's not a deep track or anything they haven't played live before." Does anyone know what song it was in reference to?
  6. Probably a post that has been battered to death with over usage, but I'm curious to hear answers, so here goes it. There's a new law that restricts everyone to have one Rush song to listen to, their favourite one. Without any smart answers here, what's your favourite Rush song, (the one you choose) and why? After long deliberation and vacillation, mine is Presto, because it's my favourite Rush song and I never get sick of listening to it no matter how many times it comes on shuffle. It's hard though!!
  7. There must be a thread balance! Any songs from RTB until the present day are fair game! One Little Victory Dreamline
  8. One of my favorite rush songs, has one of my favorite rush riffs ever. Why doesn't it ever get mentioned ? I think it's the best song on the debut.
  9. Does anyone hope that on the r40 tour they do more material from counterparts? Would love to see leave that thing alone live.
  10. Only use songs from Rush to Presto! Have fun :D Fountain of Lamneth La Villa Strangiato
  11. So as I am only sixteen, this will be my first and likely only Rush concert. In addition, this will be the first real concert which I go to voluntarily and outside of music camps, school, and honor bands (I play saxophone). I was wondering if any experienced concert-goers, most especially with Rush concerts, could give me any useful information about what I should be prepared for when I go with my dad in June. Feel free to share random concert stories, too (makes the thread more fun). :)
  12. I posted this in the other thread that we have for setlists below, but I'm really interested to start a discussion on realistic AND fantastical ones sets as opposed to purely sentimental ones or those on someone's dreamline. As you'll see below, I love making rush puns. Here's my Setlist! It's both fantastical and realistic. At the beginning there were too many hands on my time, too many feelings,... Too many things on my mind. However, in the end, I detached and subdivided it over and over, but now I'm happy and would endlessly rock to it any day. Don't be afraid to give feedback on my setlist, as I can't stop thinking Big, and would enjoy others telling me what they think just between us. So here goes it. Set 1 R41 Overture - Working Man - Anthem - Bastille Day - Making Memories - What You're Doing *leading straight from the solo towards the end into the opening song* Far Cry Driven Earthshine Kid Gloves Red Tide Nobody's Hero Malignant Narcissism Drum Solo Secret Touch Closer to The Heart Second Nature Emotion Detector Headlong Flight -- Intermission -- Act 2 Spirit Of Radio Free will Jacob's Ladder Entre Nous Different Strings Natural Science Afterimage The Twilight Zone (ambitious, I know) YYZ Resist Broon's Bane The Trees Mystic Rhythms The Enemy Within Losing It (ambitious Part II) Everyday Glory Tom Sawyer -- Encore -- 2112 (Overture, Temples, Finale) La Villa Fly By Night** ** Alex talked about how he'd like to do a heavier version of FBN so assuming they do, that's where I'd put it. What do you think?
  13. Anyone explain the three versions of Fly by Night being released end of this month?
  14. So it took me just over a whole year to listen to all Rush studio albums switching every four weeks. I think now I'm just going to listen to my favourites, this is always a battle to choose which one is my favourite. Since I listen to them in my car I was curious what your favourite albums where to listen to while driving or commuting around your city?
  15. So I was just thinking to myself yesterday, after hanging out at my buddy's house and playing 2112 and YYZ on guitar hero, what if there were a totally Rush themed guitar-hero-type game, like Guitar Hero Aerosmith or The Beatles Rock Band? I mean how awesome would that be for Rush fans who play video games too? The first thing I'd wanna know if one were somehow created (since all but Rocksmith have gone out of business) would be what songs would be in the game? Certainly they'd have most everything on the so-called "greatest hits" albums, including a full 2112, but they's need more songs than that I'm guessing, a few deeper cuts. And then there's the issue of needing 'easier' songs for the beginning of the game and slowly moving towards the most difficult songs at the end. Considering Rush's being Rush, I'd almost bet that this would be the most difficult career mode in any game of this type to complete, as even the easy songs would be significantly harder than those on other games. What do you guys think? What songs should be in the game? How much should be "greatest hits" material, and how much should correspond more to fan favorites (though often these line up a bit)? What kind of storyline should career mode follow, and songs could be chosen for the easier levels of career mode? Have fun! :)
  16. Just curious. This has probably been asked before, but I have never seen a topic like it while I have been a member. For me, its a tie between Subdivisions (Accurate video, and I love the trope of someone watching the band on TV), and The Big Money (Favorite Song, mixed with some awesome 80s CGI) I did not make this topic a poll due to the fact that some people might consider promotional live clips and lyric videos as music videos, while others may not, so I though everyone could share casually. Discuss.

    Signals, a question?

So being bored on a Friday night and a lack of Rush news was wondering if the powers that be managed to produce a 5.1 mix of Signals how come they never did a proper stereo remix. If you play the 5.1 mix in stereo from the Sector 3 boxset you get this weird version as though the engineer had one too many reefers.
  18. Which songs in the Rush discography (excluding live recordings) do you think are the most powerful and atmospheric? Or rather, which ones make you feel most like you're there, experiencing what's being described thanks to lyrics, instrumentation, and/or production? MY LIST: Red Sector A Marathon Jacob's Ladder Red Barchetta Cygnus X-1 & 2 Witch Hunt Subdivisions Rivendell Driven Clockwork Angels (whole album)

    Rush Platinum awards

Haven't seen a thread on this anywhere but from time to time I check RIAA for any sign of Rush's audit of their gold and platinum awards. Just been on and noticed that in May 2014 Clockwork Angels video was awarded Platinum and Time Machine was awarded 2x platinum.
  21. I do not have one, nor have any plans to attain one any time soon. How about y'all?
  22. Haven't seen a thread like this but thought I'd get the ball rolling. Listening to The Enemy Within, my wife,in the kitchen yells, "Haven't heard this before. Are you listening to Men at Work?"
  23. No, really, I feel great about doing this stuff. Anyone wanna toast some marshmallows over the bodies?
  24. Hey guys!!! Just to let you all know, starting at 8pm EST, I will be broadcasting my first ever radio show on WWPI (college radio). I will be playing a couple rush songs within an hour along with other great bands (Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters, The Who, etc.). Would really appreciate it if you would listen in, especially if you're bored and looking for something to do. Here's the link: http://radio.wpi.edu/?page_id=211
