  1. The ASOH version is what got me into the band. I have always loved the song. GREAT pop.
  2. 7empest is so awesome.
  3. Why not Longshot!?!? He was awesome.
  4. Yeah that was rough - they did bring back Digital Man and played Entre Nous for the first time - big pluses there. But Spindrift is awful.
  5. Man do those snake songs ever drag live... they played almost the entire album in the tour.
  6. Yeah, not a chance Disney will smash the dreams of their new fanbase of little girls by turning Rey to the Dark Side...also, I don't see that making any sense in her character arc. She has little reason to turn to the Dark Side. She has shown virtually no desire for power, revenge, or any other vice. I think she'll pull through! She also has no motivation to really do anything. Why even be a Jedi. What is driving her. What are the stakes? In my opinion, Rey's life has been quite similar to Luke's. An inherently good person, young & gifted, but with no idea of who she is and who her family was, and stuck on some nasty planet with nowhere to go. Only an attack by the Empire/First Order changed her life and sent her to other worlds, where she found purpose. Luke experienced the same life events. Luke and Rey were motivated to become Jedi for the same reason. The Empire/First Order destroyed their lives and killed the ones they loved. Luke was motivated to become better than his father (and to save him), and Rey is motivated to be better than her loser, nobody parents. Both become committed to seeking justice - for themselves and for the Galaxy. Luke had dreams of becoming a pilot, and had a home life that was violently taken from him - no mystery there at all. Also - the Empire killed his uncle and mentor. We know nothing about Rey, and can only infer what her motivations are. Where does her morality come from? She should be a scavenger - dirty, uncouth, uneducated. Her character makes no sense at all. In Rogue One we got a sense of who Jyn was - what happened to her parents, and who raised her - And the Jyn character's backstory could easily be Rey's backstory.

Why even be a Jedi. What is driving her. What are the stakes? She is simply a "girl character" where the audience needs no reason to route for her, aside from her being a female. - Sorry to seem so shitty, but it's apparent that they didn't really flesh the character out. Rose Tico exhibited more motivation and reason for existing. What mission is she on. What is she fighting for. What does she have to lose. Why should we care about Rey in any way? I'll add that Kylo Ren also offers nearly no backstory or character development. He just feels "pain". We have to infer just about everything else with these characters. They are archetypes - not human beings. We don't even know what happened with the Knights of Ren and Luke, and we have zero backstory work with when it comes to Rey. The movies should have centered around Finn.
  8. Weirdest: Cinderella Man Didacts and Narpets Twilight Zone Madrigal Cygnus X-1 AFTK was their weirdest album wasn't it?
  9. No question. So many classic bands I love used the same producer for several albums and that person almost became an extra member of the band for what they contributed that made those records that much better. Most new records nowadays are too compressed and brickwalled sounding for my taste. I'm still disappointed that Rush felt good about the way Clockwork came out sounding. I have no doubt it would've been much more listenable with Brown at the helm. Did you get the sense that Terry is still a Rush fan despite being sacked by them? Of course! He's still a regular at events promoted by fans, and was there to watch the movie. I don't have evidence of this, but I do believe he's still bitter about the band not wanting to continue their collaboration. Interesting. I thought they always said it was a mutual parting of ways. Well Neil Peart could kick me in the nuts -- and I'd call him my best friend if I could get points on every Rush album up to Signals!
  10. I enjoyed The Force Awakens quite a bit. Rogue One was really good. The Last Jedi was a steaming pile of dog vomit. Solo was not bad. Here's hoping The Rise of Skywalker holds up. Teaser looks awesome - Don't f**k it up Abrams.
  11. Here’s a really cool interview with Danny Carey from last week: https://thetrapset.libsyn.com/221danny-carey-tool-green-jello-carol-king-zaum-etc The entire podcast is genius btw. Especially if you’re a drummer.
  12. Floyd and Tool are fairly far apart on most material. Pure chops, Tool wins easily. But Floyd, as you say, has some tasty sections that often get overlooked by Gilmour's guitar work. After posting this last night it sent me into an existential quandary... Which do I like more, Tool or Pink Floyd? I didn't lose any sleep over it, but I also failed to summon an answer. I always apply the “pop” test to these questions. Floyd has gone wayyyy out there, but has also written accessible pop. Tool can’t write no pop track, unless you count Three Little Pigs by Green Jello.
  13. I refuse to 'hail' another human being. Reminds me too much of the whole HITLER thing.... Is this legit? Didn’t know there were Hitler death photos.
  14. Absolutely. I’m interested in seeing how Picard turns out - hopefully it’ll be a good bellweather for quality Sci Fi on television. And TV is a better place for Sci Fi isnt it... those stories need room to breathe and expand. It’s hard to make good Sci Fi as a 2hr profitable movie going experience.
  15. My vote would be for YYNot. No question. Just about every other Rush tribute is too cringey for words.
  16. That IS interesting.
  17. To be completely cynical - Ole will probably throw another "event" to peddle the new tour book. My guess is a companion doc that highlights the tour-book. Interviews with old friends etc... They will flog the horse's corpse for as long as they can.
  18. I’m guessing Into the Spiderverse helped that situation. Sony thinks it can do just fine without Disney. I hope they renegotiate.
  19. I listened to Celebration Day recently. Holy shit the guy sounds better than ever on that. f***ing legend who is still doing it. LOOKING AT YOU GEDDY
  20. Wasn’t ‘Live to Tell’ in ‘The Falcon and the Snowman’ starring Sean Penn? I recall the video having scenes from that film.
  21. Is that Nancy? These guys were 35 -36 years old. Unreal. Little babies.
  22. And in the end, does it even matter? Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile... (hey, if you think being a Rush fan is hard in this regard, try being a Yes-diehard.....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9FeiU1ymu4 Isn't the other Yes (ARW) supposed to be half-ways decent? I just read ARW are touring again soon. And yes they are massively more listenable than this mess. UGH I feel so bad typing that. Alan White is f***ing brilliant, and a GREAT musician. He's just in bad shape physically. He's a legend and he saved Yes after Bruford left. Puts me in a super awkward position... 2 of the guys in the Howe-version of Yes are friends of mine.... they're not the issue... That's cool and awkward at the same time. Here's a rare pic of Steve Howe being happy: http://freedomandprosperity.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/bernanke-whoville.jpg I watched some of ARW at the Apollo and the difference is immediate: more energy, more interplay, non-droopy tempos (er, tempi?). Steve Howe's Spinal Tap moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ohHqRg7PGE "Turn that spotlight off!" [Light gets turned off] "I can't see! Grrrr!" I was at those shows, although I didn't get into the soundcheck (where this vid is from)... Hoo Boy!! I got to see Matthew Sweet flip out at a soundcheck, That was fun.
  23. 100% - a proto-prog-rock masterpiece. No Yes or Genesis without it. Perhaps not the prog/70s version of Floyd either. Dark Side of the Moon (recorded at Abbey Road) probably would not have happened. Not so incidentally, I'm performing this album in its entirety at the Santa Monica Playhouse, August 14th! Tickets here! https://g.co/kgs/c1ph1E
  24. And in the end, does it even matter? Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
