  1. QUOTE (Nate2112 @ Nov 13 2011, 01:22 PM)QUOTE (Akron162 @ Nov 12 2011, 07:34 PM) You know, in this forum ive read a lot of Porcupine Tree, but at this moment, i havent heard a single song that i like, and believe me, ive listened quite a lot. But anyway, i supose theres is a good reason for all the talking, so i want to give them a chance. Sombody can recomend me the album that you believe is their best? Believe it or not im very interested. One of their best albums http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo5NVcFGje4 I'm an oldies PT fan Up the Downstair is my favorite PT album as well. It was such a treat to hear the title track and The Sky Moves Sideways live at Radio City Music Hall. Fadeaway is probably one of their best songs ever IMO and my favorite PT track. It's such a beautiful song lyrically and sound wise. As much as I love the post 2002 PT, I'm such a sucker for the oldies PT. Now, if I could pester Steven so much to release Cryogenics (like I tried to but failed when I met him in NYC) that'll be a real treat as well.
  2. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Nov 13 2011, 12:34 AM) QUOTE (PolarizeMe @ Nov 13 2011, 12:28 AM)QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Nov 13 2011, 12:10 AM) Steven just posted this on Facebook. QUOTE I extend my apologies to the New York audience, who had to wait for up to 2 and a half hours for the performance to begin yesterday. The introductory Bass Communion quadrophonic audio / film is designed to create an atmosphere while the audience enter the concert venue, but despite an advertised start time of 8pm the venue management insisted that we went on at 9.30pm, which meant that some people had already been standing in the venue for up to 90 minutes before we even began to run this music/film. Anyway, I hope it didn't spoil the evening too much for you, and thank you for your patience. I kept hearing different reasons from different sources as to why the show started late so it's really nice of Steven to make a public statement about it. Now I want to direct my anger at the management for Best Buy Theater for wanting to delay the show for that long against Steven's wishes. Why they never addressed the matter to the audience before or after the doors opened is beyond me. But all is forgiven I suppose. I hate to say this but I don't think this was the true reason. I don't see why he would lie but it just seems strange that the theater would purposely postpone the show. It makes them look bad and that's the last thing they'd want. It would look bad if it was the theater's fault, but it would also make Steven look bad if he did lie about the whole thing. I bet he wanted to rest after the signing and especially after soundcheck. He must've had a long day like the rest of us. Considering that the Bass Communion songs were playing when the doors opened before the video started, it would appear that the show was suppose to start at 8 on schedule.
  3. When I listened to the CD on the speakers, I thought it was meh...then I listened to it on the headphones and it clicked. Then I watched the DVD and when I saw Geddy ripping through Leave That Thing Alone, it was mindblowing. He's such a killer bassist

  5. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Nov 12 2011, 02:28 PM)http://s960.photobucket.com/albums/ae82/jv...teven%20Wilson/ I couldn't take a lot of pictures since one of the ushers told me to stop. I was able to take a few pictures of the encore though. Nice! I didn't really take many pictures myself, I bought my camera with me but decided not to use it because I didn't want to risk getting it confiscated, plus it's a really expensive one too. I only took about 5-7 pictures with my iPhone and aside from the two with Steven w/the mask, the rest were either bad or too dark cause it was the Bass Communion backdrop. I stood in front in the space between Steven and Wes and I swear there were a couple of times when Steven looked at the audience he was looking directly at me.
  6. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Nov 12 2011, 02:33 AM)Just got back from the show and signing. I left the house at 8:30 and I literally just walked in the door, so its been a long day. The signing was great. He signed my deluxe edition Grace For Drowning and I got a picture with him! Steven's really approachable and a very cool guy. The 2 songs were phenomenal. I stood right near him since I got there so early. After killing some time in J&R Records (the best record shop I've been to btw) I went to the theater and got in line early. I was able to get really close to the stage. There was only 1 row of people ahead of me and I was almost right in front of his keyboard. I was really pissed since the show was supposed to start at 8 but it didn't start until 9:30. (I also found out that I don't like Bass Communion since they were playing the new album the whole time and it was so monotonous and sleepy sounding.) As for the wait, I heard a bunch of different reasons. Some were saying it was technical difficulties and I heard someone else say it was the venue's fault. The 90 minute wait was totally worth it though. This show was simply a breathtaking experience. The band was in top form, and I would say that they were better than PT. Raider II was so good live. Marco tore it up on the drums. Nick Beggs, who I wasn't familiar with played the stick for most of the songs. Steven was of course as awesome as always and his voice sounded really good tonight. I'll post pictures tomorrow. That basically explains how my whole day went. I have to say that show was probably better than the Radio City show PT played. Steven was a super nice guy at the signing and everyone who was getting autographs had time to talk with him which was awesome. I was standing at the same exact spot you were at. I was also a row behind the front and I was in between Steven and Wes. As for the one hour of Bass Communion, according to Steven's manager Andy Leff, that whole Bass Communion with film backdrop was placed their to fill the hour gap of when the opening act would come on stage. It makes perfect sense cause Steven didn't go onstage till 9:30 and the show ended at 11:30. For me personally, I digged what I heard off of Cenotaph, especially the one that had a beat to it, but I won't lie and say the hour wait didn't piss me off like the others cause it did. The set was superb and I wished I could go back and relive it over and over again. Harmony Korine rocked harder and louder than in the studio, the No Twilight intro was awesome, Raider II and Get All You Deserve were just epic and Venero Paras Las Hadas was a tearjerker. I would go as far as to say this was THE best concert I've ever been to period. I've never screamed so much at a show before, my voice is completely shot today. Everyone was fantastic, Marco and Nick Beggs really impressed me the most, Nick's backing vocals sounded amazing. Wes did an awesome job even though reading off a telepromter. And we all know how Steven was. I found it funny when Steven rocked the skinny jeans, I was like "Why is their something unusual about him?" at first. If you heard a guy that screamed "Rock the skinny jeans!!!" early on in the set, that was me. Edit: Steven was selling Cenotaph at the show but I was informed that the CDs were all sold out before the start of the US leg.
  7. Just met Steven at the signing, I asked him if he heard Moving Pictures in 5.1, he said he has yet to hear it and it's high on his must to hear list. Regarding the unreleased Porcupine Tree track Cryogenics, in his words, "It's so bad. It's really bad. You don't wanna hear it." He signed my deluded edition of Grace for Drowning, Insurgentes, and a SW postcard signed with my name. And yes, I got a picture with him. He only played 2 songs, Postcard and Deform to Form A Star. He jokingly said they deliberately did not rehearse for the performance. Rehearsed or not, it was fantastic. Can't wait for the show tonight!
  8. Yeah, I took a listen to it again, and now I can tell what you mean. The synth's definitely off for the first 1/4 of the song.
  9. I'm assuming the setlist was the same as the European leg right?
  10. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Nov 9 2011, 03:34 PM) I can't wait to see him on Friday. I'm going to try to get as close to the stage as possible. There were only 5-10 people in front of me during the Blackfield show and it was amazing. I hope I can be in the front or at least a row or two close to the front as well. I plan to head straight to the Best Buy Theater and wait in line immediately after the acoustic performance and singing...which is the opposite direction of where Time Square is. I bet the other mask he wore was for Remainder the Black Dog or Raider II.
  11. Synth sounds off? I think I gotta listen to that track again because I always thought that Geddy triggered the pedal at the right time and it was just Neil who came in a split second late. Now that you mention it, I think you may be right.
  12. That's what I intentionally planned to do but for whatever reason, they only had the standalone DVD, the CD, and the BluRay with the Rash shirt at my Best Buy. I didn't have enough money with me at the time so that's why I bought the DVD and CD and not the BluRay. I got the DVD for $14.99.
  13. Are you talking about the very beginning where the synth sample is playing and then Neil comes in about a split second or so late after Geddy says "Hey!"? If so then yes I did find that a bit unusual but not something that's really bothering but I don't think that tiny delay affected when Geddy or Alex come in because I think that's how the arrangement was for the tour. The Different Stages version had Neil's drums come in first, Geddy's bass two measures later, and finally Alex's guitar a measure after that. On Rush In Rio, Neil and Alex come in at the same time with Geddy following 2 measure later; you don't hear Alex's guitar part at first because he's using a volume pedal which makes it sound like the guitar part is fading in. On Live In Cleveland, Geddy comes 2 measures later after Neil, and then Alex a half measure later. I do know that the Rio sounds closer to the one in Counterparts in terms of where the instruments come in but during the Counterparts tour, Geddy and Alex come in at the same time after Neil. You can always check out videos of different performances of it on YouTube to see what I mean. I'm not sure if this is what your question is about, but hopefully it's informative and useful in some way.
  14. QUOTE (garyg7133 @ Nov 9 2011, 08:10 PM)After listening to the CD and watching the BluRay there are a couple of great and not so great points for me. The CD : I love the production. It is a very accurate (other than the "fix" of Presto) recording and it really makes for a great memento of this tour. The lone "gripe" if you will is that while it's great that Geddy's vocals are mixed extremely well, he really does struggle in a few places. Yes, I know he's getting a little long in the tooth and it's harder to hit the notes. I am not saying this takes away from the cd for me because it absolutely doesn't. It's Rush and they're always going to be my favorite band. The BluRay : This to me is the absolute pinnacle of a live DVD. Obviously people will nitpick the setlist for whatever THEY like or dislike. What I absolutely cannot get over is how well it's directed and edited. This stage production was a departure from previous tours with no lasers and a completely innovative lighting and video production. I had seats in two separate locations for 2 shows on this tour. One was up front and one was up and to the side and if I had it to do again, I would have sat farther from the stage so that I could enjoy the stage production. In this dvd, I feel as though they went out of their way to present the entire show and submerge the viewer in both the music AND the "show". I love that some of the camera angles were not mobile cameras and were simply set on a spot on the stage while others afforded the slow, panning view of the entire stage as the lights moved out over the audience. It's an amazing overall production that, once I was able to get by some of the rougher vocals, is tops on my list. As for standout moments in the show itself, Presto is always going to be a favorite, but I could not get over how they absolutely tore up The Camera Eye at this particular show. Geddy and Alex seemed to find a surge in energy for this one and it was VERY evident that they were having a good time doing it. If I had to pick a "peeve" it would be that the " I love you man " ending was left out and as I stated in another post, they should have left the Presto flub in there. It wasn't anything major and really, how many perfect performance can we listen to? Yeah, I was a bit bummed by the fact the I Love You Man video was left off, but hey, what can you do if it's because of copyright issues? I was very impressed with the CD, I don't care if people think the sound is crappy because other than wishing that the drums were more in your face like R30, it was probably the best live album soundwise since Different Stages. I may be biased about this, but I thought the MSG was a better show performance wise, but they were on fire on this show as well. Better than Rio? Maybe it's as good as Rio. As for the Presto fix...well with every live album I've owned regardless of who it is, there will always be overdubs of some sort whether it was fixing a flaw or adding in vocals in places where they let the audience sing (i.e: Iron Maiden's Rock In Rio). I mean I wouldn't mind if they kept in the flub myself, but if it bothered Geddy so much, I don't blame him for wanting to fix it, you know? Both the audio and video for Live In Cleveland makes me hope that there will be a DVD for the Clockwork Angels tour, or at least a live CD of the tour. I have the DVD version of it and it looks incredibly HD for being a standard DVD...I was thinking of picking up the BluRay w/the Rash shirt later this week because I have a feeling I'm missing something that I'm not quite getting on the DVD version...I have a Playstation 3 so I don't need to worry about buying a BluRay player. Is it worth the extra money to get the BluRay edition?
  15. If Live in Cleveland had the R30 drum sound it would've been the best live album/DVD since Different Stages....still I enjoyed it better than S&A Live soundwise.

The CD reads "Moto Perpetuo (featuring Love For Sale)" Not iTunes (apple's) fault, it just reads the data that is stored on the CD. In my car, it is shown as "Rush with Love For Sale - Moto Perpetuo (Featuring Love For Sale)" Well that's strange to say the least... Anyone who imported the CD onto iTunes, does anyone have a problem getting the artwork cover? Because for some reason I can't get it.
  17. QUOTE (Freeze @ Nov 9 2011, 02:49 PM) Very cool to see , but it still doesn`t answer the question about the "mystery song" performed on the same show as seen on the "Beyond The Lighted Stage" clip. The guys must have even more footage from this show in their vaults. I was thinking the same thing...which is odd considering the mystery song was credited as Need Some Love during the credits of Beyond The Lighted Stage. Now I'm starting to think the mystery song might be something called Run Willie Run. According to Alex, they used to play Run Willie Run a lot in the early days....and that was also the song Alex plays in the acoustic guitar in that doccumentary Come on Children.

The House of Blues is a great venue because there isn't a bad seat in the place. All of the musicians did extremely well. For those that think that John Wesley might have had a problem with the material, think again. He was upfront and center with SW the whole show. The sound quality rivaled even Rush's sound from the TM tour. And for my money, this concert absolutely blew away any concert I've seen this year, in terms of performance, sound quality and originality. Originality? I heard SW ripped off a bunch of songs from Nate2112 who or what is Nate2112? http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?showtopic=68761 lame Wow....those lyrics were so original...no seriously those lyrics are 10x better than what SW can do... *end sarcasm* Oh wait a minute, no it's not because it's been done before, which goes to show how unoriginal kids can be today. Edit: I'm just speaking the truth. I believe those lyrics are plagiarism and many including my English teacher would agree with me.
  20. For me, it's mostly Steven Wilson related stuff at the moment..... Porcupine Tree- Wedding Nails Porcupine Tree- Tinto Brass Porcupine Tree- Mother and Child Divided Porcupine Tree- * Up the Downstair Porcupine Tree- Oceans Have No Memory Steven Wilson- Belle De Jour Steven Wilson- Sectarian *I'm not sure if Up the Downstair is considered an instrumental as there's spoken words throughout the song, but live the spoken words are omitted completely.
  21. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Nov 8 2011, 04:00 PM) Theo Travis and Adam Holzman will also be at the NYC acoustic performance. I hope this will be recorded and released like "We Lost The Skyline" was. Maybe Steven will plan to release some of the songs from the NYC acoustic show on the SW App like he did with Index, No Part of Me and Sectarian from the UK show.
  22. Is the drums a bit louder in the mix in the audio version? Because that was my only gripe about the audio portion of the TM DVD/BluRay.
  23. QUOTE (Kelly D @ Nov 6 2011, 09:09 PM)[*]Some of the shots are mirrored- you can tell by the lettering on some of the tour shirts- "HSUR"- that some fans are wearing. I wonder why the editors did that. Surely the opposite (original) image would've sufficed? Regarding the backward shots, where these shots showing the front of the fans shirts? Because one of the 2011 tour shirts I bought at the merch had the Rush logo reversed in the back print. (it was the white/light grey one) Since I've never seen the full concert footage yet, nor I could ever recall seeing such an issue on the VH1 airing, I think that could only be the possible explanation. As for the overall finished product, I agree that it's probably has the best editing. The footage was done by the same guys responsible for Iron Maiden: Flight 666, and that had the best editing out of their DVDs too. As for the other Rush DVDs, the editing wasn't bad as you think. S&A Live was really good IMO. If you ever saw Maiden's Death on the Road, it contained the worst concert DVD editing in history, it made Rush In Rio look like it was Exit...Stage Left.
