  1. By the way, Rush was the 3rd concert I ever attended. :)
  2. In addition to learning stuff about Rush that I did not know, this video brought back so many memories. One of the things that I've always enjoyed about Rush is how they're just normal guys doing their thing, and that "thing" is really extraordinary. But they don't come off like that, they're very down to earth. Like a simple bar band who just really loved to play, and that also just happened to be liked and enjoyed by millions of people.
  3. Geddy stated in the making of Snakes & Arrows video regarding the track "Good News First" that this was the first use of the mellotron in a rush song since "Tears". So it couldn't have been that.
  4. No love for "Freeze"? That would have been a lot of fun to have played live.
  5. It was new Rush at the time, and we were excited to hear new Rush. Now, over 20 years later, HYF just doesn't hold up. On the lower end of Rush albums IMO, doesn't get played a lot by me. Still better than at least 95% of the crap out there today though, so there's that.

    Hating Rush

Maybe a little off topic, but I'm going to say it anyway. One of the very few things I hate about Rush doesn't have anything to do with style, music or lyrics. What I do hate is the obvious money grab (at least it's obvious to me) that Rush has been doing for the last decade or more. Look, Rush is touring, let's buy outrageously priced tickets! (cha-ching!) Let's buy some overpriced merchandise! (cha-ching!) Let's record a DVD of the album and sell bunches of them! (cha-ching!) Let's do all of this at least every 2 years! (cha-ching!) I got to the point where I eventually stopped after paying $40 for the privelege of sitting on the grass in the back to see this band, however great they were. I loved any truly new material that came out from them (Clockwork Angels), but the endless touring, merchandising and DVD marketing just grated against me. It was overkill....JMO.

    Rush and Rand

Good post, and I agree. This was a phase for Neil. Next album, it was on to fantasy and Tolkien. Then 2112, where his thoughts had evolved even further. The evolution is fun to watch.
  8. What did the painter said after someone stole all his money? Easel come, easel go.
  9. 1. When one door closes and another door opens, you are probably in prison. 2. To me, "drink responsibly" means don't spill it. 3. Age 60 might be the new 40, but 9:00 pm is the new midnight. 4. It's the start of a brand new day, and I'm off like a herd of turtles. 5. The older I get, the earlier it gets late. 6. When I say, "The other day," I could be referring to any time between yesterday and 15 years ago. 7. I remember being able to get up without making sound effects. 8. I had my patience tested. I'm negative. 9. Remember, if you lose a sock in the dryer, it comes back as a Tupperware lid that doesn't fit any of your containers. 10. If you're sitting in public and a stranger takes the seat next to you, just stare straight ahead and say, "Did you bring the money?" 11. When you ask me what I am doing today, and I say "nothing," it does not mean I am free. It means I am doing nothing. 12. I finally got eight hours of sleep. It took me three days, but whatever. 13. I run like the winded. 14. I hate when a couple argues in public, and I missed the beginning and don't know whose side I'm on. 15. When someone asks what I did over the weekend, I squint and ask, "Why, what did you hear?" 16. When you do squats, are your knees supposed to sound like a goat chewing on an aluminum can stuffed with celery? 17. I don't mean to interrupt people. I just randomly remember things and get really excited. 18. When I ask for directions, please don't use words like "east." 19. Don't bother walking a mile in my shoes. That would be boring. Spend 30 seconds in my head. That'll freak you right out. 20. Sometimes, someone unexpected comes into your life out of nowhere, makes your heart race, and changes you forever. We call those people cops. 21. My luck is like a bald guy who just won a comb.
  10. Two hillbillies were sipping shine on their front porch, when a truck went past loaded up with rolls of sod. "I'm-a gonna do that when I win that there lottery," said Hillbilly #1. "Do wut?" said Hillbilly #2. "Send my lawn out to git mowed."
  11. Fifty-one years ago, the U.S. Army drafted Herman James, a mountain man from North Carolina. On the first day of basic training, the Army issued him a comb. That afternoon, the Army barber shaved off all his hair. On the second day, the Army issued Herman a toothbrush. That afternoon, the Army dentist yanked seven of his teeth. On the third day, the Army issued him a jock strap. The Army has been looking for Herman for 51 years.
  12. I asked a pretty homeless woman if I could take her home with me. She smiled at me and said yes. The look on her face soon changed, however, when I walked off with her cardboard box.
  13. A man and his wife are in marriage counseling. After talking to each person separately, the counselor decides to bring them back together. The counselor asks the husband: "She says you never buy her flowers. Is that true?" The husband answers: "To be honest, I never knew she sold flowers."
  14. A friend of mine was at the McDonald's drive thru. The lady behind him honks because he’s taking too long to order. He pulls to the first window, pays for his meal and hers. When the lady gets to the first window she leans out and apologizes to my buddy and thanks him for paying for her meal. My buddy gets to the second window, shows both receipts, and takes his meal AND hers!
  15. Saw a fat chick wearing a shirt that said Guess on it. So I said about 340. Now she wants to fight....
  16. Ah yes, Tri-Net....I remember fans at the old Counterparts message board griping about them. I remember the name Rudy too. Here's a few others I saw with a casual Google search: http://www.2112.net/...ranscripts.html (I can't view this one right now) http://www.rushmessageboard.com/ (I couldn't get it to load) There's some older posts in this one, but I haven't gone through it: https://www.by-tor.c...orums/index.php Here is the aforementioned Counterparts board, it's moved to Facebook: https://www.facebook...tsMessageBoard/ Then there was this little gem I found: https://alt.censorsh...ts-rush-website And finally a fun quote: Good luck history buffs (FWIW, I appreciate history too)!
  17. And predictably......The Karate Kid Part III
  18. My only question is who would play drums on such a venture. That will be very heavily scrutinized, and such a project might be DOA because "nobody can replace Neil" While I'd love to see it, I have to concur.....Geddy and Alex are done. Sadly. :(
  19. The Karate Kid and The Karate Kid, Part II Netflix is getting rid of these 3 movies on September 30th, just getting one last look before they are gone.
  20. I always thought Devo was best known for "Whip It"
  21. That ABBA has a new album coming out in November. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyage_(ABBA_album) I can remember several years back that somebody offered them a billion dollars to reunite and play, and ABBA turned it down. I also remember thinking "man they must really hate each other" but I think it's more to do with the fact that all of them are very wealthy and have no need of the money. But admittedly, this was a band I didn't follow much to be honest. Also: I never made the connection that Frida ("I know there's something going on") was in ABBA. So yeah.....I learned a lot.
  22. So today's the big day. In what cities is this being shown? Certainly not in mine.
  23. Wooden bat versus wooden sticks? Thanks for the reminder about Warren Cromartie, I remember hearing about that back in high school.
  24. I have a copy of the Toronto show off of T4E Tour. It's very similar to Different Stages, except I get 3 lives songs that Different Stages didn't include for some reason (and that I have never heard live since!) They are Half The World (my fav on T4E), Limbo and Virtuality. Virtuality is a damn good song. Half The World and Limbo are awesome also. I never understood why they only released part of the Toronto 97 Show on Video. I have a video bootleg of that show and I'm certain they filmed more footage than what was released. Virtuality is completely outdated lyrically and almost seems silly now to me. Which is a shame because it is a rip roaring f-cking piece of music. Music in the Abstract had a version of Virtuality on their website that took out the "net boy, net girl" chorus and it actually made it a much better song IMO. Musically that song is a beast though, you're right.
  25. :rose: R.I.P. Charlie Watts :rose: I suspect the Stones will be in my playlist a good bit more in the next month or so in honor of his memory.
