  1. I like RTB, but it's probably my least favorite because most of the songs sound uninspired; there isn't much emotional weight to much of the album. Dreamline, RTB and Where's My Thing (YYZ Lite) are my favorites from the album, but still not classics. The band sleepwalks through Face Up, The Big Wheel, Neurotica and You Bet Your Life. And songs that have a little more depth to them like Heresy and Ghost Of A Chance aren't that good--Bravado is decent though. It's ironic, because RTB helped get me back into Rush after they were fading from my radar due to my lack of enthusiasm from HYF and Presto (I was pretty absorbed with metal in highschool, although I dug ASOH upon its release), but RTB is my least listened to Rush album anymore.
  2. Show your love for Freddy Got Fingered. The man was brilliant in it. Cult Classic. Love 'ya RIP. Thanks for all the entertainment and especially the Larry Sanders show!
  3. The first 3 Crue and Ratt albums, along with the first Cinderella album and first 4 Dokken albums are all killer. I'[m not a 'hair metal' fan, but those were straight up 80's metal albums that still hold up today for the most part. George Lynch didn't have a lot of presence on his guitar, particularly live, but he was a f***ing beast and they wrote killer hooks. Most bands aren't worth the skid marks in his underwear. KEEP ROKKEN WITH DOKKEN!!!! GIVE TILL IT HURTS TO THE DON DOKKEN DREAM WARRIOR FOUNDATION!!! Is this a thing? I dunno, but it should be. It sounds cool.
  4. I was sort of surprised he isn't older, then I remembered he and Bonzo were pups when they recorded their first album 50 YEARS AGO. OMG time goes by. I'm 46 but I remember the second half of the Seventies and started listening to hard rock and metal in '83 at the tender age of 10. I'm glad I look and act younger than I am, but many of my idols are dead, retired or close to retiring. Anyway, Happy Birthday Robert! The first six Zeppelin albums were beyond amazing and I will always treasure them. Getcha getcha Led on!
  5. Agree. But I would add - No Rush album is a complete success, either. Some are 90% of the way there (MP, PW, Hemispheres maybe). Rush have never been about perfection, they work hard and write good stuff but they don't mind taking risks either which is why I've enjoyed and respected them. So when I weigh the value of an album, I simply take a percent of the total tracks I truly enjoy as my 'grade'. There's actually no album from them that I like every single song. Generally, I don't know of many albums by any artist where I can say I truly enjoy the entire thing. Perhaps this would be a good topic for Music of the Spheres. Moving Pictures, Hemispheres and Permanent Waves are pretty much perfect. They have several other albums that are damn close too. :codger: :rush: :haz:
  6. Presto kicks ass. IMO, it's better than RTB because it has more emotional weight to it, even if it doesn't 'rock' as much. A lot of RTB sounds uninspired. Presto is also better than HYF, IMHO, because it isn't saturated in overly poppiness and keyboards and itsn't forever tainted by the 3 worst Rush songs ever, High Water, Tai Shan and Second Nature. I totally dig all songs on Presto, except for Anagram which is tolerable. It's funny how PoW and HYF are 'sister albums' (same producer and musical approach) but one is far superior (PoW!), as is Presto with RTB and CP with T4E. This all being said, I honestly don't think there is such a thing as a 'bad' Rush album.
  7. For me, Avengers Endgame was the big denouement. I'm glad they wrapped it up so I don't have to invest so much interest in it anymore! Comic book movies are wearing thin on me--and I was a huge comic book fan in the 80's and early 90's. I don't even care much about the new Spider-Man movie, and Spidey is one of my faves. I'll see it on DVD. Beyond that, Dr. Strange and Guardians are definitely on my radar. Thor would be, but the synopsis sounds way too SJW, so Marvel can keep that one. And I don't care about the MCU appropriating the FF4 or X-Men. I would have LOVED to see Beast in The Avengers or FF4 in Infinity War, but the whole scene has peaked and the best characters and actors have flown the coup. I don't mean to be negative, but I'm probably sharing a lot of people's opinions at this point. To each his own though! Excelsior!
  8. They should have dropped FOTD for once and played Tail Gunner, Holy Smoke or Public Enema--show NPFTD some love and quit ignoring it like a red haired step child. :haz:
  9. They're not coming within 500 miles of KC, so I'm missing this one. Maiden has been here twice in the last 20 years. It sells out, so I don't know what the f***ing problem is. Oh well, at least I got to see the Seventh Son reprise tour (saw the original back in '88 too) and The Book Of Souls in this millenium. I hope they make it near here again eventually, because they will soon be retired like Rush and Sabbath.
  10. I personally think Fear Of The Dark is as weak as the Blaze albums. Actually, I totally agree with you. X-Factor is probably better than FOTD even though I'm a huge Dickinson fan. Virtual XI is pretty shitty though.
  11. You forgot to put the Blaze Era in the poll. That would completely change things. :rfl: But seriously, as much as I love the 2000s stuff, I gotta go with 80-92, mainly because their first seven albums are bonafide classics.
  12. I read the treatment he will be receiving has a better than 90% success rate. Good luck Dave--you are a musical genius and metal needs you (not to mention your friends and family).
  13. I can't recall a lot of Maiden songs that feature the kind of rapid fire bass drum that usually comes with double bass kits. I can't imagine that style of drumming would improve anything they've done either. To my knowledge, Nicko doesn't even use double bass pedals--he has a very fast foot I've heard. The only Maiden songs I can think of with double bass are Out Of The Silent Planet and Face In The Sand. It's a shame it's probably too problematic for him to bother with the technique live every night, because I would love to hear Silent Planet live--probably the main reason they haven't bothered.
  14. If I had to guess... Moving Pictures Master Of Puppets Live After Death Reigning Blood Van Halen I
  15. AYE is one of the very best rock debut albums, along with VH1, Appetite For Destruction, and The Doors. These albums sound like the bands are three albums into their careers; near flawless, well fleshed-out masterpieces. Axis and Electric Lady are killer too, but AYE is pretty much perfect. --PS. I didn't count Ozzy, Danzig or DLR's debut solo albums (which are all amazing), because they were well into their careers and surrounded by veteran musicians.
  16. That's awesome Rod! I'm happy for you. I got a rare invite to watch Steve Harris play in a pickup soccer match here in KC a couple years ago. I shook his hand, praised the new album and he graciously signed my deluxe Book Of Souls case and said 'Cheers mate' (I missed my photo op though, oh well). After the soccer match once I got in my truck and was driving home I actually teared up from gratitude and keeping my adrenaline at bay during the meeting--it caught me off guard. I've met several of my music heroes and have never had that reaction before; Steve has been a god to me since 1984 when I was 11 and one of the most important figures in metal history. The next night during the show I caught one of Nicko's drum sticks (he played Wasted Years with it--not one of the few extra sticks he grabbed after). Unvelieveable. I have a little shrine in my man room. Lol.
  17. I've only seen Endgame and Captain Marvel once, my attitude towards them might change after multiple viewings... 1. The Avengers 2. Guardians Of The Galaxy 3. Capt. America: Civil War 4. Avengers: Age Of Ultron 5. Capt. America: The Winter Soldier 6. Thor: Ragnarok 7. Avengers: Endgame 8. Avengers: Infinity War 9.Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 10.Iron Man 11. Capt. 20. That footage is definitely better than anything we saw from Last Jedi! This could be the film fans always wished Lucas would make. I just knew Snoke wasn't dead! I just knew it!
  21. I don't care for the 80's rebirth Aerosmith--it's too commercial and radio friendly. I know Eliminator has huge radio hits, but it doesn't suffer from over-production and horns. Lol.
  22. Episode VIII was the most disappointing movie I've EVER seen. I actually hate Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy now. The damage has been done but still....'Help us JJ Abrams. You're our only hope'.
  23. No Cherry Pie? No way, Uncle Tom's Cabin all day, man! Down Boys, Talk Dirty To Me, Nobody's Fool and Dream Warriors are all good tunes though. Not gonna lie...Dokken are the ultimate "guilty pleasure" band for me! Not even ashamed! I freaking love the first three Ratt and Motley Crue albums, the first Cinderella album and most of what the original Dokken did. That was metal even if they looked like ravishing chicks. Lol.
