  1. I didn't get "mad at Neil" from Geddy. I get "completely devastated and still struggling to accept that Rush is really over, but trying not to show it."
  2. I'm not complaining, just making an observation. The practise of reissuing old content in a new form with other related content is idiomatically referred to as a "cash grab" because it is designed to earn a quick burst of money by capitalising on the fact that many fans are collectors and enjoy buying product. My remark that the cash grabs are getting very cash-grabby was a comment on the fact that they're really milking 2112 for all it's worth, considering that there was a deluxe reissue of it just a few years ago, and on how they're having to scramble pretty hard to find new things to package it with that will be of sufficient interest to all but the Ray Wawrzyniaks of the world (i.e., the pure completists).
  3. It´s all part of Neil´s retirement plan...I think we´ll be flooded with reissues/special editions from now on. Maiden started doing this years ago...every three years or so their albums from the first up to 07th Son (and sometimes up to Fear of the Dark) were reissues with bonus tracks, 10 minute interviews, bonus disc with the videos for certain songs...to be honest, unless Rush includes bonus songs - which is unlikely, since they threw away anything that wasn´t used on the official releases - I´ll give the reissues a pass. I will consider buying reissues if they have content that is of interest to me that I don't have elsewhere, but those merch bundles are way over the top!
  4. In interviews he's said things to the contrary many times over in the 80s to at least the early 90s. He may not even remember saying (or maybe feeling) those things though. It's hyperbole to say that he's been "trying to quit touring" since the Fly By Night days. While I wouldn't doubt that he's been bitching about the touring process since then, I don't believe he would have been able to do it for all these years if he truly didn't want to. If he had really been "trying to quit touring" since then, I'm pretty sure that Rush would have ground to a halt during those early years when it was more-or-less all they did. Also, I don't think people are understanding the difference between disliking the touring process and not wanting to play live. Neil has obviously very much wanted to play live throughout the years, and has said so many times, including stating unequivocally on a few occasions that he enjoys the actual performing, but doesn't like all the boredom and hassle surrounding it. Having had an exciting, creative job that involved extensive travel myself, I can relate to that. It can be a fun adventure at first, but soon you really feel the conflict between your desire to do a job that you genuinely love, and having to gird yourself against the wearying grind of extensive travel.
  5. The cash grabs are starting to get a bit...cash grabby.
  6. Exactly. Very ear fatiguing. It's like trying to listen to a constant jackhammer. yep the production ruined the album for me. It was a mistake to let Nick mix it. I'm still perplexed how a band like Rush who....more or less...have always been pretty particular about how their albums sound were OK with the shit mix job Fanboy Nick R did with Clockwork. I seriously don't understand how any of them or anyone from the label or whoever listened to the final mix and signed off on it. My high school music projects when I was 17 were better sounding than that. For example...the 'Geddy talking through a speaker phone' part of the title song...I can't make out a single word of it. Not one. Why? What was the point? Nick sucks and shouldn't be allowed in the same studio with them ever again. Snakes was pretty crappy too but the use of acoustic guitars on many of the songd didn't make it quite as obvious as the heavier Clockwork songs What makes it extra frustrating is that the original single release of Caravan was mixed by Rich Chycki and I thought it was perfection. Why did they have to mess with a winning formula? All that being said, the material on Clockwork is very strong for a late career album. I didn't like the original single release of Caravan/BU2B. I thought it was bland and underwhelming. I was surprised how much more I liked both of those songs on the album release.
  7. To call it "better than" goes into realms of subjectivity that I don't bother with, but I still like Clockwork Angels more than I like Moving Pictures.
  8. I love Geddy's playing as a body of work more than that of any other bass player ever because of something intangible about the way he plays that just does it for me. I can't describe it in any sophisticated terms, but there's a fluidity and a groove in his bass playing that flips my switches even on songs I don't particularly care for. Hearing the bass part in the Hyperspace section of Natural Science at my first Rush gig knocked me across the line from "having a surprisingly good time at this concert I didn't expect anything from" to "Good god, I'm in LOVE!"
  9. The Manic Street Preachers's 2004 album "Lifeblood" is widely considered by both the fans and the band to have been a failure, but I hold it in very high esteem. It was described by one of the band members as "a strange anomaly in our canon," and "a different version of ourselves," and while the band and many of the fans seem to think that's a bad thing, I thought it was great. Especially considering that the two albums that followed it were quite safe and mediocre.
  10. I guess I assumed that someone who has made over 23K posts on this board had read enough posts here not to ask this question seriously. I apologise for accusing you of trolling, GNP. When you want information about Rush things, why don't you try looking for old threads? There's a wealth of information here on this board, and it can be a lot of fun finding it!
  11. Uh, no. This is really true. Oh, stop. You're trolling. You've been around here for long enough to know better than this.
  12. Baiting the forum for more abuse, are you?
  13. Hey, 1 of the 7, long time no see! Welcome back! :hi: :D
  14. He can PM her to work something else out! ;)
  15. Directed, actually, but thank you! JohnnyBlaze has something to say about everything lately
  16. :goodone:  Thanks Goose! Good to see someone else that appreciates the musical and emotional rawness of VT. Count me in on this exchange. I wouldn't call Vapour Trails my FAVOURITE Rush album, but it might very well be the one that is closest to my heart.
  17. Other people's opinions have often caused me to reconsider and develop an appreciation for music I had previously dismissed. This is a good thing. I don't think the opinions of others have ever caused me to dislike music that I liked. So I'll have to disagree with this hypothesis.
  18. Counterparts is a veritable cornucopia of bad lyrics!
  19. The epic ridiculousness of Geddy's hair in this video gave rise to my username I still prefer this version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Trw5Dd8l2Gc
  20. In the celebrity crush department, I only have eyes for http://img.rush.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/band_geddy_13.jpg
