I will add that I knew Metallica was maturing and evolving, so I knew it was going to be a little different from the previous efforts. Those first four albums, plus 'Garage Days' were wore out when I was in high school (I graduated in '91). But a power ballad?!?!?!?!? PLEEEZ!!!!! The first time I saw Metallica live was on the Monsters of Rock tour in '88 (my first rock show) at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. I was really excited to see Metallica, and they stole the show in my opinion, but I remember seeing some people throwing paper cups at them with my future brother-in-law among them. Those people just didn't get it, while I and the rest of us who were banging our heads did. Fast-forward to 1991, I go to visit my sister and brother-in-law at their first pad, and what do I see? I see a copy of the Black Album lying on top of their stereo. Bro-in-law said he liked some of the songs on the album, but still refused to give the earlier material a chance. To me it was like Metallica were pandering to the people who threw stuff at them in Memphis on that day, because I will still bet that 90% of those people bought the 'Black Album' when it came out.

I'd been a fan for about 4 years or so when this album came out, and I actually pre-ordered this one at my local 'Sound Shop'. I liked the album for the most part, but once I got to 'Nothing Else Matters', I was deflated like a balloon that had the air let out of it. I still hate the song to this day because of it, and it was a piss-break song for me when they played it on the ensuing tour, and it's the only time I've ever left my spot during a set by a band, other than maybe a lackluster opener. It's a great album other than that. 'Of Wolf And Man' and 'My Friend Of Misery' are my favorite album tracks.

QUOTE (sonictheplumber @ Aug 2 2011, 03:02 PM) QUOTE (Albone2112 @ Aug 2 2011, 10:36 AM) I thought 'shoe gaze' and 'grunge' were the same genre. shoe gaze = jesus and mary chain, my bloody valentine, cocteau twins grunge = tad, mudhoney, obviously nirvana, shit like that Thanks for the clarification. I just remember a lot of the grunge acts would stare down at the floor while playing as well as the shoe gaze acts.

Saw CA last night, and thought it was very well done. Can't wait for 'The Avengers'.

I voted for Joe Montana without even blinking, followed by, in no particular order: Peyton Manning John Elway Dan Marino Bart Starr Honorable mention goes to Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, and Dan Fouts (if only the Chargers had a defense during the Air Coryell years).

I voted Robert Downey Jr. with Christopher Reeve as a very close second. Oh, and as for the best villain, there's only one choice. http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/41605_20966991756_3169892_n.jpg

QUOTE (blackhawkrush @ Jun 12 2011, 05:41 PM) The 14-16 thing always seemed a little strange to me. No divisions, that's going back to 70's NHL. Actually, MLB didn't have divisions until 1969. I also agree that interleague play is nothing but a marketing ploy, and should be done away with. The World Series was the one championship game/series in pro sports where you were guaranteed to see two teams that did not play each other in the regular season. Now the mystique is gone.

I second ReRushed on the end of 'Gran Torino'. I well up with tears of joy at the end of 'The Shawshank Redemption', which is my favorite movie of all time. Morgan Freeman's narration is so poignant and touching throughout the movie. The end of 'Mask' when Cher puts all the tacks back on the map and says "Now you can go anywhere you want baby!" 'Rocky III' when Mickey dies.

It's official, the show's been axed!!!! ABC Cancellations

QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 12 2011, 11:32 PM) James Durbin out? Are you f*cking kidding me??? Wow, I guess I should never underestimate the stupidity of the American public and their insatiable love of mediocrity. Unf*ckingelievable. Just another reminder of why I've always hated this show. I started watching this season because of James Durbin. One, he's carrying the hard rock/metal flag. Two, he's overcome the tourettes/aspberger's stigma. I guess my fling with American Idol is now over.

I've noticed a lot of love for the current lineup, so I'm gonna elaborate a little on my position as to why I don't support them now. Say what you want about DDY's musical direction during the later years of the band's original run. However, 'Come Sail Away', 'Suite Madame Blue', 'Lady', and 'Grand Illusion' are stellar songs, and it doesn't feel right having someone else up there singing them. Tommy Shaw and James Young all cannot stand DDY (and perhaps they have good reasons), but have no problems playing songs that he made famous. I feel in order for the band to carry the name Styx, DDY, Shaw, and Young should all be there. Chuck should be there too, but he's not able to do full tours due to his health, so that's understandable. I also remember being disappointed when Tommy Shaw didn't come back for 'End of the Century', seeing as I was in high school and was of age to see them live. At least they did one proper reunion tour.

Great band! I even have a soft spot for 'Mr. Roboto'. With that being said, I don't support the current incarnation. No Dennis DeYoung = No Styx
