  1. Overall I think Led Zeppelin was the better band. However, Led Zeppelin never recorded Dark Side of the Moon.

It's a nice catchy song. if you like ice cream truck music, sure. I actually saw My Chemical Romance and few months back. They aren't the worst band in the world. Someone could do a lot worse then listening to them.

Really? Who? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/1001001/meg-white-thumb.jpg ...please... The White Stripes bring the house down.
  6. QUOTE (metaldad @ Dec 24 2011, 12:39 PM)Btw, how can you think he can't play that song? Maybe You have trouble playing it, but come on It has a kickass groove
  7. Around the :25 second mark. "I came up with one of my typical patterns..." I'm sorry, but I find that lame.

I would like to see Portnoy play this correctly: Why would he want to ??? Why wouldn't he want to?

I would like to see Portnoy play this correctly: It's always disheartening to see a fellow musician who can't at least respect the skills of another, even if he/she doesn't like them. You don't have to like Portnoy, but if you can't respect his talent as a musician, then you're just being closed-minded and petty. There ARE guys out there besides Neil and Gavin who can play the drums, you know. My opinion about Mike would probably be the opposite, oddly. I used to be a mega DT fan back in the day and Mike was easily my favorite member. He represented the idea of a musical fan-boy living his dream come true. He seemed like a genuine good guy that I would enjoy spending time with. However, as a drummer, Everything that I heard with Portnoy involved seemed a little too rehashed for my tastes. Can he play drums? Skillfully and creatively?

  11. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Dec 8 2011, 12:02 AM) The greatest rock album of all-time - London Calling There's nothing pretentious or forced about it. No overblown concepts and storytelling. Everything belongs, everything flows. Albeit, it's only 60 minutes long. But a glorious perfect 60 minutes. Amen. Absolutely nothing was wasted on London Calling. Everything about that album screams perfection.

His unique playing style is his biggest fault. He rehashes everything. Much like Peart's drum solo's for the last 20 years I don't know much about drumming, but one adjective I would NEVER use for Portnoy is repetitive. He was the mastermind of all the changes in setlists in his career with Dream Theater, pushed for longer and longer tours and 3 hour shows, and even took care of the screen projections during concerts, which actually changed from night to night. Then, when he left Dream Theater, he's chosen to work with a variety of artists, and has so many side projects now that even his die hard fans (myself included) lose track of what he's up to. He may or may not be repetitive with his drumming - I doubt that he is, anyway - but you could never acuse him of being satisfied with doing "business as usual". He's always pushing for new ideas and new ways to please the fans. Haters will Always Hate. Sure Neil's solo has become a snore fest. Peart will always have one thing Portnoy does not. Skill. This statement leads me to believe one thing , you know Nothing about playing the Drums. Carry on I've been playing drums for about a decade now. I am no specialist, but I know my way around a kit. Maybe it is just personal opinion or what have you. But I find Mike Portnoy's playing from album to album, band to band, and style to style all exactly the same. His fills and grooves are redundant and he never seems to expand on something new.

He absolutely is not. I'm a guitar player who fiddles around on Roland V-Drums in my music room, so I don't know who's technically "better." But Neil has always seemed more of a musician, while Mike is more of a drummer. If I could jam with one or the other, it would definitely be Neil. Not just for nostalgia, I'd be more interested to see what he would come up with. Here's the thing and I'm not trying to disrespect Neal when I say this. Back in the 70's and 80's Neil was breaking new ground in progressive music and his drumming was superb. He is an all time great, but the bottom line is there are many guys today as talented or more talented then Neil was and is. I'm not dissing him but many drummers are as good as Neil including Mike Portnoy. That's just reality. Now you've told us about reality Ticky how about balancing it out by telling us some fantasy?? You guys are stoned, not me. Neil Peart is a dime a dozen in 2011. a dime a dozen and an asshole.....he doesn't have much going for him these days.... I mean really, of coarse he is still a great drummer, but its not like he's light years better then the worlds top drummers. He is one of many who share the same level of talent. I agree... How many modern drummer's can play portnoy parts?...a musicians greatness is judged by his body of work, not on how many guys on youtube can pull off his parts. Mike Portnoy is one of the most repetitive drummers ever. His unique playing style is his biggest fault. He rehashes everything.
  15. Obviously you guys have never seen Workaholics before.
  16. If I'm in the mood I am inclined to throw on some Burzum, Darkthrone, or Ulver. But like I said, I have to be in the Black Metal mood.
  17. QUOTE (treeduck @ Sep 11 2011, 10:24 PM) Saw it, it's pretty interesting...but really just a set-up for a new Apes series... Lots of nods to the original film: "Get your filthy paws of me you damn dirty ape" at the ape house, "it's a madhouse" also at the ape house and Caesar's mother is called Bright Eyes, which is what the apes called Chuck Heston in the original film. Other observations: The girl is hot! John Lythgoe's character is just a plot device character. Most of the peripheral are very one dimensional. Some very far fetched leaping ability demonstrated by the Gorilla on the bridge. The apes were too CGI for my liking. It's summer blockbuster man, sometimes you just have to enjoy them for what they are.
  18. Rise of the Planet of the Apes brought the goddamn house down!
  19. This list is no specific order and just off the top of my head. Rush - Hemispheres Dr. Dre - The Chronic Radiohead - Ok Computer The Clash - London Calling Nas - Illmatic Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend Yes - Close To The Edge System Of A Down - Toxicity Pink Floyd - Dark Side Muse - Black Holes And Revelations

  22. Saw them live with Dokken and Slaughter. Sounds amazing right? I can only really stand Fire of Unknown Origin by them.
