  1. Not exactly a definitive source, but it's an entertaining read and is a passable summary from the beginning until Roll The Bones. I've got both the Canadian and US versions of this (The only difference is the cover). My US version is available to anyone who wants it. Ten bucks is 10 bucks. (if interested, email ytserush at sprintmail dot com)
  2. I've been after this since it came out, but based on the reviews, the price it came out at is about $20 more than I'd be willing to pay. That said, it's pretty difficult to find and I doubt there were that many made. This is a great opportunity for a someone that has been looking for this for a while.

QUOTE (HowItIs @ Aug 18 2011, 02:15 AM) These are the posters we found: The Montreal GUP poster: The GUP poster from the show we saw: yeah, it's water -damaged Plus, these two: We also found a Close To The Edge poster that was still in its plastic sleeve. It sold on ebay today for $41...! Those are awesome! Especially the Asia and Crimson posters (never saw those before). I didn't realize Jon Anderson was doing solo shows in the months before he rejoined Yes for 90125.
  4. QUOTE (marblesmike @ Aug 17 2011, 09:41 PM) QUOTE (ytserush @ Aug 16 2011, 11:44 PM) QUOTE (marblesmike @ Aug 13 2011, 03:18 PM) I just snagged a nm copy of Vapor Trails on vinyl for...wait for it...$25. I was at a record show and bought VT along with Bowie's Heathen on vinyl for $20. Also got: Steely Dan's Countdown To Ecstasy, Gaucho, Greatest Hits (all in great shape and original pressings) Passport - Sky Blue Those cost me another 25 or so. Still debating if I want to go to another record show tomorrow... Damn! You find that at Second Saturday? I was planning on going to that but something came up that I had to deal with. Yup, second Saturday in Wayne, NJ. I was gonna go to a show in Lancaster, PA the next day, but decided driving 2 hours to Wayne and back was enough for the weekend. I honestly wasn't all that impressed with the show. I got lucky with the Rush and Bowie albums, but other than that, there weren't too many treats. I'm mainly looking for newer (late 80s-90s) vinyl and imports these days, and that show had almost none of that. Btw Necromancer, I love Steely Dan, and just starting to get into Passport. My dad overheard me listening to Ozric Tentacles and recommended Doldinger and Co. As for the Dan, I just saw them a few weeks ago up at Tanglewood and they were great! Going up to the Beacon in NYC to see their Rarities/B-sides show and also the Royal Scam show. Been meaning to go to Lancaster too, but it's farther than Wayne so I haven't gotten there yet. Record shows (like independent record stores) sure aren't what they used to be. The haystacks to find those needles in are fewer and farther between. The imports have pretty much dried up too. Also, You also used to be able to get albums long before they came out, but those days are long gone too. Still, Second Saturday is a fun way to spend a few hours whenever you can manage it.

  7. QUOTE (HowItIs @ Aug 3 2011, 02:36 AM) Didn't know it was out yet. Those who already have it.... is the bass drum sound better? It always sounded so puny to me -- like a "pop" instead of a "boom." Better on this? Definately a subtle improvement even over the Atlantic remasters. Might not be enough of an improvement for some, but I'm liking what was done to it. (except for the poor job on the artwork and liners)
  8. Guilty! Far too many times to list here. Mostly vinyl and CDs and a few 8 tracks
  9. I'm going to go to my favorite independent store and grab my copy a few days before the release date as usual.
  10. I have the US, Anthem and UK vinyl and the original atomic and 1997 remaster on disc. I've never actually listened to the UK vinyl. Of the ones I have listened to the US atomic comes out on top and the 1997 remaster comes out on the bottom.
  11. QUOTE (Motorshooter @ Jul 14 2011, 08:41 AM) That is very cool. I'll have to post an image of the radio promo I have. Side A is two tracks 1. Circumstances 2. The Trees Side B is one track 1. Working Man A friend gave me the disk back in 1980 That's the US promo 12 inch for Hemispheres. Those aren't too easy to find these days.
  12. I was going to wait and see if I could pick this up in the used bin, but I caved. I only had time to listen to the first three songs once. Initial impressions of those three were that I didn't like what was done with Dreamline but did like Bravado and Roll The Bones a little better. So, in my case the jury is still out until I have the chance to dig in a little deeper.
  13. QUOTE (Smokin'Lebanon @ Jul 16 2011, 08:29 AM) Unofficial 1978 AFTK UK tour shirt. http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/2078/000000100.jpg http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/8748/000000301.jpg Awesome shirt! I don't have a lot of pics. I can PM a few to you if you'd like?

Very plausible it could be "one-of-a-kind." Just the kind of thing I'd hope to see in this thread.
  16. I got mine before the internet for $25. It's not insanely rare, but has always been a much talked about piece among collectors for decades. It was one of those rare "collectables" at a time where Rush didn't have too many "cool" things to collect. I think the only other DJ album (other than test pressings, promo albums and singles) that had been pressed before that was the Mercury in-store various artists promo with Fly By Night/Anthem and the short record company bio on the back to promote Fly By Night.
  17. I won't preorder it, but I'll get it eventually.

Heard of run willy run but how did you hear of the rest? I don't know if I'm supposed to mention this, but the only book of reference I've got is Robert Telleria - Mereley Players... I have nothing else. just checked this book out on amazon ...$226 (new) For Tellaria's book? My guess it it's HIM selling it! I wrote a scathing review of it (may be on Amazon still) and he sent me a nasty email, it was funny! I DO remember reading in different sources of those "early" songs....but like one person said, they may just be tunes we know under "working" names (and if the source for them was maybe an old set list, that's highly possible) Garden Road, and You Can't Fight It are out there on a few different boots. I've seen boots with wrong song names (heck and even BAND names) several times... I think when they were a little more "commercially available" it was a ruse to get them run at a legitimate production facility. Wasn't there a Rush boot available YEARS back that everyone thought the name of the band was Cygnus? (IIRC it was produced by Mike Bahr who used to sell CDR's way way back) Is that guy still around? He promised that book would be updated annually, but he seemed to drop off the face of the earth less than a year after the mistake and typo-laden first book came out. Now that I think of it, his "friend" Doug Maher also seemed to disappear shortly after that too.... Everyone has their 15 minutes I guess...
  19. QUOTE (Jaminbenb @ Jun 17 2011, 11:52 AM) QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Jun 15 2011, 08:03 AM) The first recorded drum solo is on the first bootleg. August 14, 1974. They were warming up for Uriah Heep. The recording is just awful, but it is historical. The best moment is when the announcer says please welcome Rush and you can clearly hear someone say, "Who?" Priceless. Set list: Finding My Way In The Mood Bad Boy Working Man Drum Solo Yep....that! Hard to believe someone actually was able to record that show...But I'm glad it's out there!!! Sounds like crap, but being at the right place at the right time more than makes up for it. The person who hit the record button early on that night has my eternal gratitude.
  20. Any news on what may have happened to this?

Yep. Finished it last night. I enjoyed it; I'm an armchair philosopher. I learned a few things about the music -- which I didn't expect to read about (thought it would be all lyrics) -- and it struck me that these guys are geniuses. I recommend it I guess that means I'll pick it up then. (As if there was any doubt anyway!) How is it in relation to say the Chris McDonald or Carol Selby Price books? I just picked both of them up on Amazon about a week ago. The Chris Mcdonald book is hard reading, I've put it back on the shelf maybe I'll pick it back up again later. I'm a few chapters into the Rush and Philosophy one and it's easier reading. So far I do find it interesting and it does make you think a bit. I still have to pick up the Philosophy book. Now that I think of it, I might not have finished the MacDonald book myself yet. I think it's buried under other magazines that I need to get too. I think I'm about 80 percent done when I must have started piling magazines that I still have yet to read on it. It's not with the other Rush books so that'd probably where it's at.
  22. Did this get cut because it was cost prohibitive?
  23. Just for fun I looked on Ebay and not only can the vinyl be had for $20 or under, but the CD is going for about $20 also! Sometimes you just have to shake your head and move on....
