  1. It's the way they do it that makes it so awesome. He gave himself a 5 on the 4th hole today cause he one-armed his 5-foot putt. This was after he had crushed his drive to within about 80 yds. We get to the next tee and the old guy says "How the f*** do you get a 7 after that drive?" "No, I got a 5." "Bullshit, you never got near the hole!" There was a similar occurrence on number 8 and 9. It was very enjoyable to watch.
  2. To be honest it's hard to say how well the clubs have worked out for me. When I first started golfing again 3 years ago or so I would shoot in the low sixties. Now I am in the low fifties, but I also have taken some lessons. If I could keep my head down consistently I think I could pick up another 3 or 4 shots per round but I just can't seem to keep from pulling my head up. My old clubs were a set of Mizuno blades that were from the early nineties or so.
  3. So this morning I sucked, but that wasn't what made the round so satisfying. I got paired with the loud mouth again, but this time the other 2 in the group the group were the outspoken grumpy old retired Union pricks rather than the 2 soft spoken guys from the other day. I just want to say I love grumpy old retired Union pricks. They called the loudmouth out 3 times on his generous scoring and it was quite enjoyable to see him squirm.
  4. He's just winning. Apparently the guy Kadri changed for hadn't completely gotten off the ice yet. It's a b******* thing to complain about especially given their recent history.
  5. I voted 4 games and shouldn't be suspended at all. 4 games because the league is weak on this type of stuff and will cave to public pressure. But without explicit and accurate details I can't say for sure that what he did warrants being suspended at all.
  6. Today's 51 was frustrating for a whole different set of reasons. There are 8 people in our Wednesday Friday group, but there is usually always at least one person out. 6 of the other 7 are really cool guys and I enjoy golfing with each of them. The 8th guy is a challenge because he just never shuts his mouth. Whether it's the bro talk encouragement or the constant analysis of what he did wrong on this or that shot. It's compounded because he is also the laziest worker in our building and he knows it and seems to revel in it. It's compounded even worse because his son and my daughter are actually really good friends and have their entire class schedule together. I usually manage to avoid being in his group but today I got stuck there. I found myself paying more attention to what he was doing than myself because he tends to be generous with his scoring. At the end of the round he told the 1st group that he had a 47 and I almost burst out laughing. He gives himself any putt inside 5' if it's the 2nd putt. But we don't play for money, and at the end of the day he did get me my full set of Cobra Speedzone clubs at half price so you just bite your tongue and deal with it.
  7. I disagree. His strokes gained off the tee improved from -.4 to +.3 after he started fading his shot. His swing speed has increased from 118 to 120mph, resulting in an increase in driving distance to 298 yards with an accuracy rating of 64.88%. That makes for a total driving value of 148, which ranks 38 on the tour, far above where he was just 2 years ago. Playing by your gut is for hackers like me. If you want to make money, you need analytics. I was hoping for Scheffler, Matsuyama or McIlroy, but this kid seems ok.
  8. I'm sorry but Will Zalawhatsisface just looks like too much of a puss to win a major. Eat a cheeseburger for crying out loud!
  9. One of my church congregation members is there volunteering. He's native American, and bears a solid resemblance to Notah Begay, which allowed him to walk into the media hospitality tent. He's been posting pics all day.
  10. Where do you live? It's actually been fairly mild here this week weak in Massachusetts.
  11. There was a 6 or 7 year period where I watched every lap of every race, both pre-race shows, both post-race shows, the Monday night wrap up show and even drove 13 hours to go to the 1st "Car of Tomorrow" race at Bristol. I could name all 43 drivers and the teams they drove for and their primary sponsor. Now I don't even look to see if a race is on.
  12. I haven't posted recently because my continuing stories of how I got today's 51 must be boring as h***. But I just want to say that today's 51 really really REALLY pissed me off! 7 good to unbelievable drives, for me at least. 6 of them followed by lousy 2nd shots which blew my chance at a par. It drives me nuts that things that were a weakness 2 months ago are now getting much stronger, and all of a sudden things that I had figured out are screwing up again.
  13. Jayson Tatum showed that he was just not ready for prime time in this series. Here in MA many are referring to him as Tuukka Tatum.
  14. Now that virtually every team is using them, the small market teams are basically back where they started. There's an Ivy League nerd team in every front office, so the hidden gems like Scott Hattiesburg (from Moneyball) are harder to find. And if they do happen to find one, a bigger market team will outbid them in free agency.
  15. That was very satisfying.
  16. It's weird having it so close to home. Relatively speaking.. I'm an hour away whereas it's in Rick's backyard pretty much. One of my church friends is a volunteer and 2 of my morning group are actually there at it. He sent a selfie during a practice round of himself with Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson right over his shoulder.
  17. I get why they're used. I recently watched Moneyball and really liked it. But it makes the game unbearable to watch. Hopefully things like pitch clocks, eliminating the shift and cutting down on pitching changes will counteract them. They're effective over a long sample size, but in a short series, you still need to rely on baseball instincts. Tampa blew the World Series a few years ago because of over-reliance on them. Another potential downside to them is this: My behated Red Sox are owned by John Henry. He views the team strictly as a part of his sports business empire. He also owns the Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool FC. They use analytics to ensure a certain degree of success, and profit. Last year the Red Sox made the American league championship series. Before the trading deadline they ran over 50 analytical models which showed that no combination of players on the market would have gotten them to the World Series and won, so they declined to make the investment in them. They passed on Max Scherzer, and Anthony Rizzo and settled for Kyle Schwarber. They used analytics to choose maximum profitability over a chance for a championship. The revenue of 2 more home playoff games and the prestige of a potential championship was not worth the risk of the extra investment to secure them. It may have been their last best chance, because several of their best players are free agents this year, and it looks like there's no way they're going to spend the money to keep all of them. They have taken the focus away from the game and put it on the profits derived from the game. The results of the game are irrelevant past a certain profit point.
  18. Vegas is hiring ex-Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy. I hope he wins the cup in his 1st year. He got a raw deal here, And the guy that drafted all the shit players he had to work with (while passing on Barzal, Aho, Connor, Chabot, and Beauvillier among others) kept his job.
  19. PGA drops the hammer on the players playing in the LIV tour. Not quite sure if I want to cheer them on or if I think they're foolish. Rory McIlroy made a good point. The arabs will lose interest eventually and then where will they be?
  20. I would vote Vande Velde over Norman. VV's was the last hole of a majorI. He at least had a sense of humor about it though. He needed either a 6 or a 7 to win and joked afterward that he should have been able to do that with just a putter. The following year he went back to the same hole just for fun and did it.
  21. I've been really busy this year. How are my Yankees doing?
  22. In an absolute gutless move, the Bruins fire Cassidy. Yet Sweeney and Cam Neely keep their jobs. F****** Mickey Mouse organization.
  23. He got off easy because of who it was. Kadri is a dirty piece of c***
  24. I'm not sure I could ever pinpoint it down to one song. Is in a pop sense, I would go with Don't You Forget About Me or Your Love. For Rush, it's Power Windows hands down. For metal it would be Live After Death by Maiden.
