What Are You Listening To Right Now? (Non-Rush) V.19
XanaduSuperConductor replied to custom55's topic in Music Of The Spheres
Sword - Land of the Brave (To carry on the list of obscure bands. Because sorry blackhawkrush, I haven't heard of any of these bands you've been posting! But yes, I will check them out at some point...) -
New Model Army new album - Unbroken.

I think one of Spotify or Wikipedia alludes to the same thing. They don't fit strongly into any 1 box musically-speaking which is probably one of the main reasons. Love all the albums I've got or heard - e.g. Ghost of Cain, Impurity and Strange Brotherhood (maybe another). I must check out all the others I've missed plus this new one. -
Bands You're Obsessing Over Right Now
XanaduSuperConductor replied to Super25Smasher's topic in Music Of The Spheres
Wet Leg - Indie rock female guitar playing duo from Isle of Wight with male backing band. Initially heard them on a magazine end-of-year best of CD amongst other artists. Didn't think much beyond the song was good but nothing more. Since heard one or 2 more and they have a quirky humour to their songs and performance which is refreshing. In one of their u toob concert vids I thought their stage banter was novel in that they introduced the band by asking each member 'Hey, Josh, how are you doing?' and each member replied. Seemed like they had a good vibe going. Plus their lyrics are a bit funny and quirky and one of the duo that does less singing and more lead-playing always seems to be on the verge of laughing or at least smirking at the words. A band called Dry Cleaning are also worth checking out too although they're not as appealing to me as Wet Leg. A male band with female lead who pretty much just speaks her words in a Mark E Smith or street poetry kind-of-way. The lyrics are usually notes and observations she's made from conversations and are usually quite humorous in a deadpan way. The band are ok but listening to them live online is a bit frustrating because her voice gets lost in the mix sometimes and she needs to be heard clearly to get the right effect. Interesting overall though. Other than that, revisiting thrash metal in the form of Sacred Reich. Can't stop listening to Surf Nicaragua. Love it! -

Did they play The Fountain Of Lamneth or not?
XanaduSuperConductor replied to YYZumbi's topic in On The Lighted Stage
I know it's an old thread but I've had fun reading it at this late stage. I'm wondering if the early play of COS to Paul Stanley and his reaction put them off playing Fountain and Necromancer. He didn't know what to make of the album (and those tracks I presume in particular). We know they should have trusted their instincts but KISS were pretty cool to Rush when Rush were their support act so they probably respected their opinion (maybe?!). Anyway, as some others have said, Panacea is a cool slower song with some nice acoustic/classical guitar backing it. The slower, lighter songs in Rush's catalogue never get much love from us fans or the band (not just Tai Shan but the Madrigals and Rivendells etc) but I think they're all pretty solid when listened to in the right frame of mind. I always thought Different Strings, for instance, was up there as one of their best songs, or at least, the way it leads nicely into Natural Science on Perm Waves was always enjoyable to my ears. I planning to play the pairing of No one at the bridge and Panacea at open mics because their nice to play and sound great to my ears! -

KI$$ Dynasty May Be their Best Album
XanaduSuperConductor replied to JohnRogers's topic in Music Of The Spheres
I always think of Unmasked as Dynasty's kid brother and has some good tunes on it to my mind - easy as it seems and she's so european and fun listens to name a couple. (Plus it probably has one of if not the best cover of all Kiss's albums!) Ok it Dynasty has the 2 biggies in 'I was made..' and 'Sure know something' plus 'hard times' but I'm can't remember the rest of the album being as engaging. Still both worth a listen if you have a passing interest in KISS (whether Ace was involved in them or not!). Now I'm off to listen to that other underrated gem 'The Elder'.......
