I wouldn't say it's migraine inducing, but I do agree that TfE's production was a step down from Counterparts'. The main riffs in songs like Virtuality and Dog Years sound rather abrasive to me. That being said, I like the album a lot, despite the generally awful lyrics. I should learn how to not....eggs adj err ate...no migraine was suffered by me in the listening to TFE.

Except to those that like CP! It's new to me, I'm still a rook here, it's surprising that we "hate" aspects of their career. My only DA complaint is when it should kick into a higher gear, it gets swimmy. Still yet, it's half a world better than TFE. To me at least. I can cloak relationships in mystery and mystique. Visualizing the OJ trial, video vertigo, is tough to rock out to and separate from the grind of everyday life. Speaking of hating aspects of Rush- Listened to PoW today. Synth era not my thing at all, but still enjoyed remembering how I enjoyed it when it first came out. Even though I was so confused by that cover...and the over abundance of synths...is that really a Rush album?? When they moved away from their epic proggy days, for me the lyrics were never the "same" again. Since this thread is about TFE, I'll answer how some think in was a huge step down from CP...the TFE production is migraine inducing. CPs production is among the best post Broon. Ged's singing was dog years ahead on CP, although as unintelligent the words he was singing. .

Love hockey for so many decades, but lately it's a one person sport, with the goalie save %s so high in today's era. If your team has a great goalie, a .925, your team has a shot ;) It's like having Matt Harvey on the mound every game for 9 innings...

I've been beaten to the punch here. Just could never get into singing along with a song heavily influenced by the OJ trial. Is this really Rush? They get someone else to pen their lyrics? Thought that then and still think it when I listen now. And half the world...much more than half that song are those three boring goofily sung words. As long as CP cheap shots have been thrown....Driven is great and belongs on CP. At least CP has some old fashioned Rush mysticism and harkens back to the old days...pressed down by the darkness, bound up and wound up so tight....belongs in the 70s...Is that the Necromancer guest singing??

Seattle friggin rocks! And here I thought y'all were talkin bout the 9th studio album from Rush.

I looked at your main pic Mr N... was like he looks pretty cool with the procedure, all is good. Then I hit the spoiler....yikes! Hope it is tolerable from here on out. I hope the below is your only experience with the word, it's not the 70s Rush we love, but very cool to crank...hope you have a chance to enjoy it...

No LVS?? Huh, wha...immma lost?,!?! We'll let me walk up to the podium then.... LVS. Gabriel out. (That's my old cats name ;) )

Good thing Rush is retiring soon because none of their fans will be able to take standing/sitting in a concert venue for 3+ hours ;). And that loud music and all the yodeling. Makes my minor knee issues feel, well minor... I hope y'all experience better days and improved health ahead.

It's why i think we will hear all the 70's stuff in itstrumental/medley form I don't know why fans are over-reaching for 70's stuff......OUT OF GED'S RANGE. IT would sound horrid I still say you'll get a lot of 80's/90's stuff....again. Mick Circumstances sounded great live, as it was the best received tune in 50 of our SnA sets. Please have the courtesy to take a listen before blasting us. Thanks, Geddy

That bit of info actually IS in my profile! Hahaha... I've played the drums for about 30 years now. Thanks :). And in a few weeks I will forget and look again! -
I truly think the album is perfect. I just do not connect with it (I admire it 100%). But lately, not sure why, I have been getting sick to death of all he high praise this album gets. I don't go totally over the top when I talk about it. It shares the top spot with Hold Your Fire, in my own personal tastes, and I seem to spend more time espousing the virtues of (and defending) the synth era, as it seems to need the greater support around here. Hemispheres and HYF...those are the same three dudes playin all the music.....

Blue J, in the meet Rush thread, alluded to Neil insulting his drum kit ;). So I'm gonna look to re check to see if he plays the skins... -
David Duval is. Oh what could have been. Well, he wears very nice suits on GOLF.

Wrong road to go down. I almost brought up the improved quality of the international field, but didn't. Glad that you did. Tiger had to compete against a much deeper global field that didn't include the likes of Choking Greg Norman. :P But either way, the accomplishments of Jack and Tiger occupy a rare place in the world of athletic competition. To be head and shoulders above your competition when your competition consists of the absolute best at your sport is something special indeed. If Tiger breaks Jacks record, the media will always link the two and refer to Tiger as the man that beat Jacks record. Nothing against Tiger, but Jacks accomplishments to me are more impressive given his competition and how often he was in the top two at majors. If we could call them both the greatest of all time, terrific, but I don't think that's how the media will tell the story. The current day media will crown Tiger as the greatest of them all. Today Tiger has Rory, Jordan and Phil to beat, but in 1997, it was a much different landscape, Ernie, Lee Janzen nor Payne ever pulled a major trophy out of Tigers paw :) I agree it is not right to cite the US Ryder Cup Team record during Tigers career, as you said the Euros are much improved. However Tigers personal record is below .500 which is relevant and very curious for a player with a real chance to be crowned greatest of all time. Only 29 more wins for Jordan to make this moot. ;)

It is there for people to read - I was curious as to WHICH information people found pertinent. I find I have people dropping by semi regularly - and since no one had ever left me a feed message before, or responded to mine, I wanted to know. Realistically, once it's read - what else is there to revisit for, unless there is more to it. I thought it a fair question, I am sorry you find it odd. Some of us are VERY forgetful! -
Congrats troutman!!

You are welcome Sundog. Hope I don't appear nosy...At this pivotal time in the band's history, I found myself interested in how the fans perceive the band currently, historically, and how much of a future we may squeak out. How I regretted that when I found out how unpopular Counterparts is ;). Rush is less a cultural phenomenon in the States (more of a loyalist following) so it's not a common topic for discussion here, even on the rock radio stations. Wish I found TRF years ago, thanks to everyone putting in the work keeping it going so seamlessly. -

Sometimes perspective, for example, how long a member has been a Rush fan. Did they join the fun in 70s era or 80s era or later? Sometimes for perspective on a comment, is the poster from US, Canada or Europe? Or Australia?!!? How many Rush shows, first one, last one, etc. Sometimes they have an album cover avatar that I don't recognize, and I foolishly think I click on it and I'll get the image instead of their homepage. Sometimes just by accident... Sometimes.... -
I hope you are right Ayn Rand. There is one sentence though I'd never say ;) So many times rooted Phil on Masters Sunday. Hope he has another Muirfield in him. If greens keep holding, they can put the pins in the fringe and Speith may yet reach -20.

I'm with you 4ever. Welcome to TRF. Not sure if you voted in the drum poll, Neil regrettably lost to Roger Taylor.

Take me down To the infirmary Lay me down On cotton sheets Put a damp cloth On my forehead Lay me down And let me sleep I know the whiskey, it won't soothe my soul And the morphine won't heal my heart But if you take me down to the infirmary I won't have to sleep or drink alone So, take me down To the infirmary

He did make everyone work harder, very true. Had he concentrated more on cardio and less on looking like the terminator, he would probably have the major record by now. That is true that fields are deeper in Tiger's era. The article is good and I agree with the conclusion, it's tough to compare eras. The 19 second place finishes for Jack, to me speaks volumes as to how dominant he was. I am not comfortable diminishing Arnie, Lee, Tom, Gary, et al because guys like JB Holmes are better than the 30th best golfer in 1975. Tom should have won a major anyway in the Tiger era ;) If we had the greatest golfer of all time on the US team (well technically we have 1 or 2), would we be consistently getting trounced by Europe? If the US tour were so deep and Tiger 5-0 each time, wouldn't we have won more often during the Tiger era? It's a tough question, because in Jacks era, they didnt have to face all of Europe. But if we had such a huge weapon, we should have won more often with Tiger going 5-0 or 4-1 every time. And Phil, too. How I wish Phil won at Winged Foot, alas, another day.... But for me the biggest disappointment is that when Tiger was on, no one pushed him. Most will attribute that to his greatness, but to me, where are all his major 4th round come from behind victories? The greatest of all time should win from behind....often. I don't say that to trash him, I say it as a fan, that was looking for that type of excitement on a major Sunday, and it just didn't happen in Tigers era. Maybe we will get that later today! This all may be moot, as Air Jordan may win 30 majors. Hope I'm alive to see it. Sorry Jordan for engaging this during your time, but a TRF legend asked if anyone had something to say about Tiger. Please beat him every major now til he retires ;)
