  1. Perhaps it would, and perhaps it would not. They would have to try it, and that may not happen.
  2. The approach I refer to is how the Police keyed some of those songs on their reunion tour. Some stuff may work in keys that wouldn't be just making everything a half step, whole-step, three semitones down whatever in terms of guitar tunings.
  3. Funny you mention "stable and smooth", as I think his control when he was younger was awful. I wouldn't call the HYF vocals great, but to my ears the start of being a bit sharp for about 4 tours. My error was ESL through HYF, not and. My error. I think Geddys voice started deteriorating after HYF I don't think his voice has deteriorated so much as had a timbre change (which I think started to be noticeable on the Time Machine tour. This doesn't mean his voice didn't change until then, but I think with his timbre being darker a key change of some of the material would offset the complaints of his voice as of late. I did this with a version of Bravado from the last tour in Eb, and it seemed to work. I wonder if this would help, but I think this approach would be best if they just tried different keys for songs instead of just a downtune for everything. Also, I have not seen this tour yet and I thought his voice sounded great through the Periscope feed for the Tampa show). Down tuning does change the key of the song Yep. That I knew.

  5. I wonder if you are speaking just of those 2 releases, those 2 and the studio releases, or the recorded performances from that era.

  7. Like I said..."two week rule" With that in mind..anything within TWO weeks is quick! I concur. I plan on taping my R40 stops, and they won't be ready days after (maybe 1-2 weeks).
  8. Funny this gets mentioned, as when I first saw this bass it appeared Inca silver to me (but I have yet to see this tour and won't see the B set, so this is based off of videos). As for the bass used on the Garden, that is surf green.
  9. The desire to see The Camera Eye live is and should be a powerful desire. The Camera Eye is in my Top Ten Rush songs...as well as my Top Ten songs. Natural Science is on both Top Ten lists also. If you could get both in one set...pure joy. We probably got that on the MP Tour, can't recall or confirm that. That desire is not for me (at least not the whole song). You are correct about the MP tour. I prefer NS from that tour over the one before anyway.
  10. Interesting. One could say the same thing about Cygnus Bk2. While I would not agree with your last comment, I do agree that TCE is a song that is padded up. I think the way it was performed on the Signals tour put the point across of the song (and in 4 less minutes).
  11. I think the reverse Thunderbird looks fine, but the non-reverse looks weird to me. He plays it, so it doesn't matter what I think. As for the OP, my vote goes to that '58 Precision. The tone is quite stellar to my ears.
  12. I think you're right. As soon as I put it up I realized it couldn't be the same bass on both, as Prelude was tuned down. Do you think it is the Fender Jazz Bass (Trans Red Custom Shop) one? I looked that up in Google Images and two pictures of Geddy playing what I think is the D-tuning one he used on Circumstances and 2112 before this tour. I'll look closer at TMMB (and others are welcome to as well), as I think you could be right there, too. The lighter coloured ones are so hard to pick out against the lighting. Are they tuning down a whole step or a step and a half? It sounds like just a step, but perhaps that needs to be checked.
  13. I think Hemispheres is the D standard tuned bass seen since 1996 and The Main Monkey Business bass is not a 1965 jazz (maybe the '72 blonde listed in equipment).
  14. It's never been played before, and thematically it suits the winding down of a career so well. Maybe it's just something that makes sense if you're older, like the band. Yeah...but the more I think about it...it's a "last show" kind of thing...I'd be willing to bet LA is where they play it...(and I have a feeling that it's going to be a second encore kind of thing) While I have no idea what will happen, I would find it odd they are rehearsing it at soundcheck now only to play it then.
  15. Of course. That said, it's a smaller sub-genre in the hard rock lexicon, so founder-student-teacher syntax can be thrown around pretty widely, I guess. Certainly Rush and Floyd seem to be the only prog outfits that transitioned successfully into the hard rock mainstream. I do not think the mainstream headbangers ever really embraced Yes or Genesis or the MB's or ELP or JT on a mass scale...definitely not at Rush or Floyd's levels, anyway. Rush one of the founders of Progressive Rock? Seriously? I never said progressive rock, but progressive metal.
  16. Superior to Moving Pictures? Who is this guy? :) To Snakes and Arrows and Vapor Trails. Ah. Thanks for the clarification. I agree it's a vastly better effort than VT. But I'm probably in the minority in thinking SnA is a better album than CA. I loved SnA! Snakes and Arrows while it was a MAJOR improvement from the grunge/death metal attempt that was Vapor Trails, I felt it still suffered from what I like to call "Nickelback/Death Magnetic syndrome" where it's still horribly brickwalled in terms of sound, but I feel the songs were more melodic and catchy than Vapor Trails. Clockwork Angels on the other hand, while it still sounds like Death Magnetic at some points, it has FAR superior songwriting. Hell, the title track is one of Rush's best heavy metal songs. Also, this was Rush's first attempt at a full theme album/rock opera like Dream Theater's Metropolis II Scenes From A Memory and it definitley was impressive. In no way. Is Rush. Heavy Metal. At any time. In their history. PSA #345. :) To each to their own, but SnA is clearly a better Rush album than CA. :) I don't think that post said anything about Rush being metal (although I think they should be credited as founders of progressive metal).
  17. I thought that was for the VT songs.
  18. I have wondered about this too. To my ears, it seems his timbre started taking a turn with the Time Machine tour (I noticed it when he was singing TCE on the second night of that tour). I think a half-step down would also help, and some of the songs they have played in that time would sound good (I tried this with Bravado from the Raleigh performance and I thought the emotion of the song still cut through). I think the problem with Geddy's voice is more of a timbre thing (for the most part - singers aren't perfect every night).
  19. I know as a fan I should support the band whatever, but Geddy just doesn't inspire me to see them. To see them for the sake of seeing them isn't fair for me to spend money to be disappointed. I will support them in other ways, but having listened to the bootlegs, I am afraid that if they come to the UK, I think it would be less than tempting. I am seeing Nightwish, and I am also really hoping Toto tour here as well. They are on performing at their peak, and I know I wouldn't feel cheated. Being a fan means knowing what you love and knowing when to say no. It shouldn't have to mean blindly supporting a band against your own will. Besides, the ticket I could have paid money for (if they were over here) would probably be better appreciated by another fan. Go away and see Toto then. Ingrate!! ;) I respect everyone's personal tastes in music. But seriously, man. Toto and Rush are nowhere near in the same league. And I like Toto. Lukather is a perpetually underrated musician and vocalist. That said...in no way does Toto come close to Rush's tier. :) In all honesty, I like one Toto album more than Rush's entire body of work combined, and I would take nineties and 00's and 10's Toto, both studio and live, over anything from Rush after HYF. And that is the truth. I love Toto the way some people round here love Steven Wilson, Yes or Genesis. For me, they belong in the top tier. I hear ya, lol. Me, I have three favorite bands that haven't changed in rank for 25 years plus. One of them is Rush. I will put up Rush from PeW to GuP and that run of LPs will DESTROY the combined output of Yes, Genesis, and Toto combined. :) But I might be biased. :D (my other 2 faves are the Police (defunct) and Van Halen (derailed). So me being happy about Rush still playing with each other is probably heightened a tad. :D I think this is a stretch on Genesis (particularly from about 1972-1980, when there were some moments that Rush seem to be influenced by).
  20. I get the point here, but I think if you can nail 10,000+ butts down to their seats that is quite the command and power of the music you are pumping out. I see it as the opposite. Sitting is passive and standing is active. So if I band can get 10,000 butts out of their seats, that shows the power and the energy of the music! If this is the case, how do you rationalize the memories of those who attended Doors' concerts in 1967 and 1968? That is a kind of power that being energetic doesn't reach.

  22. This is a killer. If I didn't have a wife with 2 children, I'd be going tomorrow!
  23. For me, I think I would have also chosen differents '90s/'00s songs, but they aren't going to make everyone happy and only have so much time anyway. To the OP, I think your observation is a decent description of where I am at with this set. I think it is the first one that will have any debate.
  24. I wouldn't be surprised if it was alternated with Xanadu. I think the show in Lincoln will answer this question.
  25. There were some nice selections in the first set and some songs that didn't blow my mind so much. Oh well. I am going twice.
