  1. Has anyone mentioned Phil Lynott or another Irishman Van Morrison? Superb vocal range!
  2. OH NO! HOW COULD THEY?! ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER MADE! LOVE THE MAIN STARS BUT MUST MENTION JACK HAWKINS AS QUINTUS ARRIUS,AND FINLAY CURRIE AS BALTHASAR.BOTH ARE SUPERB IN THEIR ROLES.. THE SCENE WHEN MASSALA IS INJURED AND DYING IS QUITE BRILLIANT! HOW CAN THE NEW VERSION COME CLOSE TO BETTER THE ORIGINAL? NOT FOR ME IT WON'T!
  3. The most progressive bands that I've heard are Van Der Graaf Generator and the brilliant Gentle Giant.
  4. One of many Genesis tribute bands! I believe they're one of the best! I'm not too sure but I think members of G have fully endorsed them!
  5. ALL THE BEST,MICK CONGRATULATIONS! :)
  6. Apparently they played a gig on Friday evening at a Swedish festival. It was the first time they'd played outside of U.K.! They were from Warrington which is a town in the N.W.of England, nr.Manchester/Liverpool. Four members between the ages of 19-32. Tragic story.
  7. Styx are one of those bands where everything fits into place if I am in the mood. But if not, I find the songs that miss are mostly DeYoung. Definitely,Segue!
  8. Paradise Theater excellent. The rest hit n miss.
  9. Look I think the band took a bit of a risk with TA.They knew it would be met with some criticism, and it has! Over on the DT forum naturally the majority of them love it,but there are some members who are not happy at all with it! Where's the shredding ? The aggression ? Too many ballads. Not enough of DTs familiar extended jams and more importantly no tracks beyond the eight minute mark! Other forums are saying the same things too! You have to agree though that most of these points are true, and TA is unlike any DT album! Did we really want to listen to more of the same from the band again on this release ? The last three or four albums whilst being good, were to much of the same thing I.e. no variety Therefore they've obviously thought they'd go in the opposite direction and try something different! Brave or stupid or both ? Personally I think it's a bold move from the band, but it will be criticised for a while yet! At least the band have a decent back catalogue to listen to,but I'll still be enjoying TA for awhile yet, then no doubt they'll be a Live Deluxe Version of the album later, and then in two or three years DT will release an " Old Fashioned Prog Metal Album ",and everybody will be very happy!
  10. So true! You just can't please anyone these days! Each to his own………!
  11. Yes they're was talk of a second album with Wilson but I'm not too sure what happened thereafter! Shame really, CAS wasn't and isn't a bad album, and had some decent songs on it (The Dividing Line,Uncertain Weather etc).
  12. TA-LOVE IT! Act One is DT at their best, but Act Two is not too far behind, though the last few tracks are a bit overblown to say the least, and Hymn of a Thosand Voices is pretty awful actually. Happily the rest of the album is very, very good, and my favourite songs include Act of Faythe,Three Days,A Life Left Behind,A New Beginning, and The Path That Divides. Disappointed with the packaging however! DT have delivered a quality record!
  13. Along with Wind And Wuthering, and Duke my favourite Collins era G album. Ripples and Mad Man Moon are superb songs and the rest aren't too bad either! :ebert:
  14. MOVING PICTURES 10/10 HEMISPHERES 10/10 SIGNALS. 10/10 A FAREWELL TO KINGS. 9.5/10 PERMANENT WAVES. 9/10 2112. 8/10 POWER WINDOWS 7/10 COUNTERPARTS 7/10 CLOCKWORK ANGELS 6/10 CARESS OF STEEL 6/10 FLY BY NIGHT 6/10 SNAKES AND ARROWS 5.5/10 PRESTO 5/10 ROLL THE BONES 5/10 RUSH 5/10 TEST FOR ECHO. 4/10 GRACE UNDER PRESSURE. 4/10 HOLD YOUR FIRE. 3/10 VAPOR TRAILS 3/10
  15. When G released From Genesis to Revelation the group were basically in the hands of British pop mogul Jonathan King who decided that the album needed strings on the album! As the band have said King was a big fan of The Bee Gees and as they were using strings on their records,King thought it was a good idea for G to use them too! Listen to The Silent Sun and its like listening to The Bee Gees! King soon left and Genesis got rid of the strings! Actually some songs on FGTR are quite good, and Gabriel's voice is in its infancy, but really quite powerful! It's an interesting listen to say the least!
  16. Back in 77, aged 12, i was rushed into hospital with appendicitis, and a song i loved at that time was Bowie's Sound and Vision, and that still remains my favourite Bowie song! Changes is bloody awesome too!
  17. We have lost a giant in the music business today. Very few come close to Bowie's place among the true greats in music. Very sad news LEGEND REST IN PEACE.
  18. No Contest! ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST! 15/20 minutes of brilliance and Ennio Moricone's epic soundtrack For me The greatest Western ever!
  19. Been thinking about this for awhile. In no particular order: Pink Floyd-Meddle King Crimson-Larks Tongues in Aspic Jethro Tull-Aqualung Camel-Moonmadness Rush-Hemispheres Genesis-Selling England by the Pound Yes-Fragile Dream Theater-Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Caravan-In The Land of Grey and Pink Transatlantic-SMPTe Honourable Mentions: Spock's Beard-The Kindness of Strangers Steve Hackett-Voyage of the Acolyte Haken-The Mountain Marillion-Clutching at Straws Gentle Giant-The Power and the Glory
  20. Perhaps Tony Bank's greatest recorded solo is contained in this song! The keyboard solo on Firth of Fifth is pretty special too though! Yup. Such a beautiful album. In hindsight they should have taken a bit of a break after this album not jump right into the Lamb since arguably thats what splintered them off. Oh well. The Lamb is so very different from SEBTP,and it does suffer somewhat because of this. PG wanted to create a masterpiece with the Lamb, and in many ways he did.The story is very elaborate, but some of the music is superb. In The Cage,Carpet Crawlers,The Lamia etc are all classic G songs. As you say in hindsight taking on this project proved their downfall, but maybe it would have happened anyway.I always find it a bit odd that Tony Banks has regularly criticized this album!

  22. All The Very Best,Pip. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  23. Absolutely.Always thought the musicians of Yes far out-weighed Floyd for technical ability!
  24. So come on then, who gets your seal of approval from these two heavyweights of progressive rock? YES or PINK FLOYD? Both bands were established in the mid/late sixties and by the eighties had produced some of the greatest prog albums of all time. In one corner were Yes,who's albums including Fragile,Close to the Edge,Tales From Topographic Oceans and Going For The One created some dynamic and powerful playing, and in the other corner,Pink Floyd whose albums included The Dark Side of the Moon,Wish You Were Here,Animals and The Wall.Epic albums all! Personally Yes and Floyd are up there with the very best, and guitarists Howe (Yes),and Gilmour(PF) are two of the greats, but with Jon Anderson's vocals,Yes just have the edge! Which band do you prefer,or are they two bands you could well do without?
