  1. Yeah, none of them are replaceable, but clearly Neil is the MOST replaceable. Especially when it comes to touring
  2. He's definitely giving it his all, and it sounds more than passable. What more can we ask for?? Saying they should have already retired long ago because Geddy can't replicate his youthful voice is just absurd.
  3. totally agree, why waste our time with this when there are so many better versions before it.. Some people like it. Cool thing is, we can enjoy it, you can ignore it, and everyone is happy! What a concept! Sure, but everyone should be able to express their opinion about it, regardless of what it might be. Seems every post from nicky is bashing it. It's not as bad as some make it out to be. If you want perfection, pop in ESL. If you want to listen to an honest 2015 rendition by a band who wasn't afraid to age in front of everyone's eyes, then R40 isn't a pointless waste. They've doctored up the other songs so far in one way or another, you'd think they'd work with this a bit more, but maybe they did what they could do. Or maybe they didn't do anything at all Maybe this is a 61 year old Geddy completely un-doctored and as he was that night, because nothing needed doctoring. Nope. Sorry, but he's really struggled with this song for a lot of years. It's too bad one of their major hits turned out to be so hard for him to handle as time went by. To me, it's always sounded like he struggled with Tom Sawyer a little more
  4. Well, that doesn't have anything to do with being a drummer really. Anyone can have an emotional reaction to anything
  5. Sounds great to me. Best version since A Show of Hands. Like others have said, Geddy's got a bit of marble mouth, but overall a much more confident performance than the last two
  6. Is it the same flashlight you could buy at the shows?
  7. This appears to be an old interview, not at all relevant
  8. I was watching The Spirit of Radio from ASOH, and I got to thinking....I was wondering if anyone happens to know which tour it was when Geddy started doing his famous "Ohhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhh!!!!" during the chorus of the song. I know, I know....who could possibly have time for such trivialities? :smoke:
  9. Damn...I really thought that breathtaking letter from Phil would convince him...:smoke:
  10. Wait... what? That means your least favorite... Uh.. oh nevermind I have only love for the debut, it's one of my favorite debut albums ever...but it's missing a third of the band :D
  11. You are a whiny bitch of a fan. Seriously. You clearly have no empathy whatsoever. Sociopathic, really. Do you have any idea what kind of fortitude it would take to comeback from what Neil lived through? STFU already. You've had more Rush than you deserve. Oh I'm the whiny bitch? Let me tell you something. I was the one at first trying to keep hope alive that Rush wasn't done after R40, that they would still exist as some sort of entity. You were the one spelling doom and gloom for everything. As for the whole Neil thing, just because he is a phenomenal drummer and lyricist doesn't mean I have to agree with every decision he's made. If he's f***ing done with Rush and doesn't give a f**k about what Geddy or Alex want, he can be my guest. That doesn't mean I have to kiss his ass and say "oh I support you I love you and I love everything you do." I think it's bullshit what he's doing to this band. I think it's bullshit and its completely unfair to Geddy and Alex that he's leaving the duo high and dry. FACE IT, OUR HEROES HAVE FLAWS. THEY'RE NOT PERFECT. By the way, if you think I have no sympathy for Neil after his tragedy, then you're an asshole for assuming that I would be that shitty of a human being. Frankly, the fact that you would accuse me of being that way really sickens me. I feel absolutely terrible for the guy, no parent should ever have to bury their own child not should they have to bury their spouse on top of that. However, this time around I simply can't agree with Neil's decision to end it, because I honestly believe he wanted to disconnect forever from this band for no reason. :eyeroll:
  12. I think all of the music for Sir Gawain was repurposed for Natural Science
  13. I've heard Neil was decently into cocaine for awhile...so I guess that could be connected. Never heard that before. When was he doing that? I love Double Agent. I've never given much thought to what the lyrics meant though. All I know is combined with the music, the lyrics paint a very cool image. I love the "wilderness of mirrors" parts. Alex has mentioned that all three of them did some Coke in the late 70s and 80s, but I've heard that Neil kept the habit up for longer
  14. It would mean the world to me if Rush released one more studio album (I'd even settle for an EP.) I'm totally fine if that time comes and they feel their age will prevent them from touring, but if they're feeling healthy and they're fired up about the new material, I would be thrilled to get a chance to see them live again.

  16. Just to name a few Rush songs that get me emotional from time to time: Xanadu Hemispheres La Villa Strangiato The Fountain of Lamneth Rivendell The Spirit of Radio (has been known to cause tears of sheer euphoria in a live setting) Emotion Detector Time Stand Still The Pass War Paint Presto Bravado Heresy Everyday Glory Resist (live and studio) Ghost Rider Secret Touch Freeze The Way the Wind Blows Spindrift The Garden
  17. Exactly. Honestly Geddy's yodling that he does now when singing the older material adds to the charm of Rush for me in a weird way. :D Just a couple of random questions here....do you have any opinions on...say...Neil's relationship with Brutus? Or do you happen to be a closet Presto fan who has maybe felt the album has been unfairly "bullied" on TRF? Lastly, do you have strong opinions about certain pseudonyms that combine popular Italian noodle dishes and the names of famous musicians? Just curious...
  18. I really enjoyed this! Alex and Neil both look like they're having fun! And who doesn't love seeing Neil play the shit outta those orchestra bells :smoke: I love the sound of the Rickenbacker that Geddy is using, and I admire him for really going for it on the vocals. On the Time Machine Tour, he lowered the, "reflected in their art," but here he sings it just like the studio version (apart from the "closer to the HEART!" and the "woooooooooaaaaaaaaahhh!!!") So, well done Geddy. I've come to the conclusion that while he struggles at times, his voice has really matured quite nicely. Modern day Geddy can do things that young Geddy couldn't pull off as successfully (The Garden, The Way the Wind Blows, The Wreckers.) He's really done a good job of adapting to his new style.
  19. I would assume the little piano break down in Anagram is Rupert. As for Red Tide, that's probably Geddy as it's a main part of the track. Available Light could go either way If Anagram is Ged on piano. i underestimated him. lol Mick It's probably sequenced. very likely. Mick Ack, I was actually thinking of Red Time when I responded. Shit, I can't even recall how the keyboards in Anagram sound at the moment. On the subject of Red Tide, I doubt it's sequenced because it's really not THAT technical. It's definitely within the boundaries of Geddy's talents as a keyboardist.

  21. I have had Rush's music bring me to tears many times
  22. I figured it was Andy Richards and/or Jim Burgess doing those parts on the studio version. It definitely could have been one of those two who had the idea, but regardless of who "played" it, it definitely sounds like it was done on a sequencer.
