Gene and Paul being Gene and Paul...
Entre_Perpetuo replied to laughedatbytime's topic in Music Of The Spheres
I suppose it depends on if it was a space man shirt versus an Ace shirt without a picture of him in costume. -
My ranking of the few that I've heard: Awake Images ADTOE Six Degrees Octavarium Awake is currently my primary reason for still caring about DT. So glad I finally listened to this.

Yeah, which is deplorable, but totally KISS :haz: -

Wow, that's hilarious. I don't want KISS to be nice guys, I want them to stay this way, dangerous for TV, little respect for anything but their own brand, greedy rock stars with an army of loyal fans. I feel kinda bad for the interviewer, but he didn't really seem terribly phased about it all in the end. -
That was fun to watch, but yeah this has nothing to do with Neil.

So Mike Portnoy doesn't like any Rush after Moving Pictures?

Nothing ranty about your post in my opinion. I think you make good points and appreciate your response. EP, I know I've said this before, but you should write about music. I find your posts thoughtful and considered. You should send a piece to UCR, just to see. You never know, maybe they'll have you writing exciting things about Dio holograms and withered Hair bands! Lol, I know, and I thank you for your compliments! I would kind of love to write about music, but I can't help but feel like I'd also kind of hate to write about it if only for the system it's gonna put me in that I tend to find somewhat corrupt and flailing. I enjoy reading stuff from Team Rock, UCR, Pitchfork...heck, even RS isn't always completely awful. But in a way, Yoko was right when she said "writing about music is like dancing about architecture," lol. I don't think they'd want my 100% honest opinions over there, especially when the opinion tends to be oh so subjective, lol. On the other hand, I really admire some of the youtube mini stars out there who are reacting to and critiquing music. Theneedledrop and Lost In Vegas are my favorite YT channels. Maybe someday I could do something a little more low key like that, maybe ;) Nothing ranty about your post in my opinion. I think you make good points and appreciate your response. It might not be the best career decision, but might make you a few extra bucks to spend on more music! I don't think that's a Yoko quote btw...isn't it Zappa or E Costello? [edit - apparently said by Comedian Martin Mull!] P. Dant :P Coulda sworn I'd heard it attributed to Yoko, but then taking a great quote from someone else and saying it herself sounds like a somewhat Yoko thing to do, lol. I agree. -

No it bloody well feckin Isn’t. Yes it was recorded in the 70’s but Permanent Waves is an album clearly looking forward into the future. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just being stubborn. It has far more in common with Pictures and Signals than it does with Hemispheres and Kings. It is leaving the excesses of the 70’s era behind and forging new grounds. Get your heads out of your arses people. Its not rocket f***ing science. little harsh much? lol, no big deal. I hear a definite change in style sure, but that 70s mentality (more is more, go a bit nuts just cuz) is still in top form, just being used with a bit more finesse and control. I don't hear the 80s fully until MP, with that overwhelming synth bass that opens up TS. On PeW, the synths, prominent as they are, are still used mainly for detail and decoration. By MP, they've finally made the transition to becoming a core part of the foundation of certain songs, and by Signals they've become the backbone of most of the album.

I don't want to argue, but I think musically Permanent Waves is the 80's album! And if it has been released on November 20, 1979 in my book it would be the 80's album. That album doesn't sound like the 70's rock at all and it represents a big shift in musical style of a band. You don't want to argue, so you start a poll and a new thread about it...sure. Hey mate chill, just chill. Be cool man repect his opinions. I am chill, just saying he seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth, but it's whatever.

I can't like almost any of these lists because they all have songs that don't belong on 80s lists... sad.

Sorry for the ranty two cents there, I don't really disagree with you so much as I just wanted to put my opinion out there. -
Obligatory PeW is a 70s album comment.

The Last Jedi Reaction thread [SPOILERS galore!]
Entre_Perpetuo replied to JohnnyBlaze's topic in Video Vertigo
I'm keeping this at fourth after seeing it for a third time (this time in I-max). As much as I don't really care about the plot criticisms when it comes to my enjoyment of the movie, and as much as I love the humor and the great characterization going on with almost everyone here (except Finn, but whatever), I can't deny that it doesn't feel as classic as 4, 5, 7, 6, or even the occasional moment in the prequels. Everything about 8 screams awesome, but novel, to me. So I guess we'll see how well it ages. However, there are some downright incredible scenes and sequences here (I'll never ever get tired of watching the end, from Holdo's sacrifice onward). So...I love this movie, A+ for how much I enjoy it and am impressed with it's ambition, but here's my ranking: IV VII V VIII (R1) VI III I II -
Underrated album but overall it still doesn't beat the energy, speed and aggression of Reign...Jeff (and Slayer's) masterpiece, no question. I wanna know your opinions of Slayer's "classic three" and the classic Anthrax stuff!! :D-13: Slayer's not one of my big favorites, but they are entertaining to me in a thrashy thrashy thrash thrash kind of way. I prefer South Of Heaven to Reign In Blood, more interesting album from a diversity and atmospheric standpoint, though Reign In Blood does what it does better than anything else. It's been some months since I listened to Seasons, but I initially preferred that one to Reign as well. We'll see when I get back around to it. And my Anthrax ranking so far: Among The Living State Of Euphoria Spreading The Disease Yep, I can understand that. TBH Reign seemed overrated to me at first BUT after quite a few more listens I totally got why it's held up as a masterpiece on so many levels. It's just so relentless, so perfectly executed with that production, just does what a thrash album is meant to do, they absolutely nailed it. Seasons and South are kinda the same from different standpoints - both 8/10s. How do you rank all these albums out of 10? Totally agree with you on Anthrax although Persistence is really solid as well. I will have to duel it with Disease again to reassess 3rd placing. LMK when you finally get to it yourself :hail: The other day I got Persistence Of Time. and a couple indie pop songs for kicks, lol
