  1. QUOTE (bigalfan @ Aug 30 2012, 12:25 PM) QUOTE (losingit2k @ Aug 30 2012, 12:23 PM) 8 More Days! squuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. QUOTE (Alexmai @ Aug 30 2012, 10:27 AM) Anyone knows WHERE are they rehearsing? yeah! I know they rehearsed in past tours at a small venue in Glens Falls, NY (civic center) - days before the internet was intertwined in our everyday lives, so no one really know unless it was in the paper or talked about amongst peers.
  3. QUOTE (Jomboni @ Aug 30 2012, 10:09 AM) If it's too loud, you're too old!! I'm 29 and will be bringing them along. I go in and out of having them in. Whenever they play secret touch, they have to be...the scratching at the end is enough to make me shiver! As someone else said too, they can cut the cluttered noise and produce a cleaner sound, depending on the earplug. I buy cheapos and play it by ear - ha!
  4. I won't predict a setlist, but I'm thinking Analog Kid might make a comeback... Mainly because I listed to it this morning and thought "I forgot how much this song rocks!!"
  5. QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Aug 27 2012, 03:22 PM) I could be wrong, but it seems to me that too much time and energy is spent on helping kids deal with bullying, with not enough time being spent on holding the bullies accountable. No, you're not wrong. But we live in a "victim is to blame" society in ALL areas, not just kids being bullied. I'm leaving at that to avoid political discussion.
  6. QUOTE (Gompers @ Aug 22 2012, 11:04 AM) QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Jan 25 2012, 12:44 PM) For those in Central NYS: The A&ES Surgery Center commercials. Every. Goddamn. Morning. during the news, they have been playing these commercials for years now. It's for cosmetic surgery and they show these twits on the beach (man and women) with glistening smoothed and tan skin, and I swear they look like brother and sister (yuck!). Every friggin commercial break, they are on with that damn music in the background. Makes me want to scream every time I see them! I know the commercials you mean. Have you seen how Alexander and Catalano, The Heavy Hitters, have ripped of the DirecTV ("Don't End Up in a Roadside Ditch")commercials? Those ambulance chasers have the most annoying commercials. Fuccillo "HUGE!!!!" commercials are another set that I am tired of. "don't get 53 pizzas".
  7. Two summer car commercials need to die, like, 5 weeks ago: 1. Mazda summer sales event! (sung to Grease song and full song and dance) 2. G*damn Mike Rowe and his Ford commercials, flipping burgers, all that crap. GO. AWAY.
  8. QUOTE (librarian @ Aug 21 2012, 05:48 PM) Wow. I have to wait two more months... Which show are you attending, buffalo by any chance??
  9. I don't know when or how I missed this clip, but it's hilarious!
  10. Since my weekend-off plans did not end up working out, I did over a half century yesterday (57 miles) for another charity ride! I didn't have to raise money this time; the registration fee was considered donation. Free food and beer at the end too! Tough the first 20 miles out - two big climbs, but relatively easy after that. Feeling good today - a little fatigued but not sore. The worst part was the intimidation being among all these fancy cyclists, bikes and jerseys
  11. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Aug 17 2012, 07:20 AM) QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Aug 17 2012, 04:19 AM) As for horse - I agree with JB. I really can't stand when people say that eating horses, dogs, whatever is inhumane - while they chow down on chicken or beef in the meantime. I bet some other cultures look at things we consider "normal" and think the same.. Well, I wasn't really thinking along the "inhumane" lines but I see what you're saying too. Some of the locals here freaked when I told them alligator tail is delicious (and I don't think that that's too radical at all specifically in the U.S. or Australia). One interesting experience I've had out here: some locals said they've never tried putting peanut butter on a piece of chocolate (the thought never crossed their minds) so I encouraged them to do so...I spread a little bit of peanut butter on top of a Hershey's chocolate bar and they were making these disgusting "I don't wanna try it/childlike" faces like they were about to eat a candy bar made of crap. Some said they thought it was okay, others thought it was too sweet. So yeah, cultural tastes regarding TASTE can be interesting at times. Yes! What you just described ins exactly, or part, what I meant. Chocolate and pb are haeven for me, but the fact other cultures may feel grossed out by it! This is why I can't put others down for eating horse, alligator, bugs, whatever.
  12. Famous food truck on the Cornell campus: http://www.louieslunch.com/ Never eaten there, but lines ensue! As for horse - I agree with JB. I really can't stand when people say that eating horses, dogs, whatever is inhumane - while they chow down on chicken or beef in the meantime. I bet some other cultures look at things we consider "normal" and think the same..
  13. My husband eats a raw garlic clove during his summer season (he's a garlic grower) to "neutralize the heavy metals in the blood." Whatever that means.
  14. QUOTE (alphseeker @ Aug 13 2012, 09:34 AM) QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Aug 13 2012, 08:37 AM) I've been riding quite a bit for my century training! I got new shoes and clips, my first ever. I really like them, they help on the hills, but my knees are getting used to the new form. They have been a bit sore lately, so I am training easy as I can without doing damage. Got 40 miles in this past Saturday, including two biggie hills. I was really proud of myself! Thats a good ride - i'm sure it gives you confidence when you realize you only have to do 60 more miles spread out over an entire day with 5 rest stops - You'll be just fine - For the first couple of rides being clipped in don't use to much power on the upstroke, i know it gives you a ton of power but it also is something your knees aren't use to - Clipless pedals only add about 10-15% increased output efficiency but over 100 miles that really adds up - i got my first pair in 1987 - Good to know as I have been pulling up more... any advice I get is so much appreciated! Actually, I rode yesterday and consciously focused on spinning around full circles rather than favoring pushing over pulling. I have been swimming on off days which feels great on my legs, even though I hate swimming (though I used to say I hate cycling, and look where I ended up...!) I'm away this weekend so no long ride for me, but that's OK. I can take a break, no biggie. If anything I've learned from running is that rest can sometimes be more beneficial than an extra workout...
  15. QUOTE (snowdogged @ Aug 13 2012, 08:12 PM) You always seemed like a cool and sweet girl/woman to me and it's for a great cause! I just donated ten bucks (That's all could afford, I have a Visa debit card that had ten dollars on it. lol). When I donated, I was asked if I wanted to cover the service fee's also but like I said I only had ten dollars on the card so I couldn't. Anyhow, good luck! I just saw, so thank you!! The host site, Firstgiving, is annoying and I hate that it asks donors to cover the 1% or whatever, but I tell people to not feel obligated to. I really appreciate it!
  16. Hi everyone! On September 15, I will be participating in a charity bicycle ride around one of our Finger Lakes in Upstate NY (Cayuga Lake). Why? Not only will this be a personal challenge, but its to raise money for the Southern Tier Aids Programs, Inc. of upstate NY. STAPInc. assists those living with HIV in eight counties of the southern tier regions in upstate NY (for those somewhat familiar with the area, this is around Binghamton and Ithaca regions). They provide clinical, social and mental support and promotes AIDS/Hepatitis C education and preventative measures. Their services are free and confidential. This year, donations to STAPInc. are even more crucial and needed as recent budget cuts have severely stripped state funding for this organization. It's through donations like yours that make the difference and keep STAPInc and, let's face it, PEOPLE alive. (really, think about it - not a stretch of the imagination!) Also, I would like to note this region suffered a lot of economic distress last summer due to Hurricane Irene, which literally swept away towns off the map. Upstate NY rarely sees devastation from coastal storms, so you can imagine the shock of having a hurricane flood out your towns and businesses. It's tough times down in the area and resources from STAPInc. are being accessed even more. My goal is to ride as much around the lake as I can - but I am hoping with support and encouragement, I will be able to finish out the full 100 miles around Cayuga Lake in one day! So, if you are feeling charitable, please consider making a donation (in any amount!) to my fundraising page: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/jill...e-for-life-2012 Can't donate? No worries - just say a silent prayer (or chant, or HURRAHH, whatever you do) for me and my team!

  18. Pink Slime, or any other "meat" treated with ammonia, yes?
  19. *Technically* the front row tickets I won off the radio were free... But, I think $65 for Rochester, NY in 2002 sounds about right; it was only my second Rush show.
  20. Beefeater, yes. Or, seek out local distilleries around your area, if possible. I found a great gin from the Finger lakes distillery in my area. http://www.fingerlakesdistilling.com/index.php/our-products/
  21. Hi Cyclists, I am considering a benefit ride this September 15th. It will be a century ride, not a race, but a fundraising opportunity for AIDS research and support. I have been riding since March and my last "really long" ride was 43 miles. It was tough, but very rewarding. The good thing about this ride is you can do any distance from 42 to 100 miles, so should the day come and I am not prepared for the full, I can choose a shorter option. So... any advice for this newbie? Encouragement? Am I nuts? I can currently do a good 35 miles comfortably now so I think I am on pace to train for something bigger. I'm just scared! There are some BIG hills in this monster ride around one of the Fingerlakes in upstate NY here. It's going to be beautiful, but tough (duh) I'm also eager to try this because when I started running a few years ago, my confidence held me back from doing a full marathon. When I finally decided I wanted to try for the 26.2, injuries started showing up after years of beating my body on the pavement...and it's been over a year battling impact-causing problems in my lower legs. I have turned to cycling to keep me outdoors and going. Thanks..
