  1. Was "how it is" a first? Don't remember it from the Vapor Trails tour
  2. As far as I love the fact that they played Lakeside Park, I think Geddy should easy it with the voice. Changing a note here and there could do it a lot easier for him to sing the old stuff, without the need of having to drop a step. Anyways, I almost cried of joy when I saw Lakeside and What you're doing in the setlist, and was in pure awe with the little Garden Road sneak at the end. Best encore ever.
  3. Nope another hint: materials with zero electrical resistance
  4. do you have a hint? Special kind of material, some of them only work at very low temperatures
  5. Between the sun and moon http://www.wondermagnet.com/images/super5.jpg
  6. Received my digital download from Roadrunner Records. Still waiting for my cd + vinyl pack
  7. QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jun 12 2012, 06:41 PM) another that's growing. I'd already loved the intro. Wasn't too warm on the pre-chorus initially. Chorus is a bit predictable, but liking it more as well now! Love the little jam section and wish it went on about 30 seconds longer. It ends just when I'm in mid-groove! Ahh, only the best artists leave 'em wanting more. +1 Maybe they'll make good use of that moment live
  8. QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jun 12 2012, 06:38 PM) I know who is going to contest this........3.....2.....1...... And yeah, I like the vocals too....very gutsy and very emotive. Ged sings with a lot of feeling and not once do I cringe, even when he goes high. Vibrato vibrato, pro tools's for n00bz, voice need more effects!!!1!!one! Something like that?
  9. The most recognizable tones are from Permanent Waves
  10. QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jun 8 2012, 09:26 AM) I'm guessing The Beatles have played those two chords two at some point, therefore The Beatles are death metal. this^
  11. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 7 2012, 06:54 PM) At ~2:17, the quintessential Neil Peart drum fill (a la Temples of Syrinx) was NOT highlighted in the mix. It should be in your face, not subtle. Anyone hear it? Wow, I'm still amazed of how I didn't notice that one
  12. No change, cause they were already at the top Loving the little changes though, that phaser on the bass of Caravan is gorgeous. And in the liner notes, that Friedrich Gruber detail was a heart mover
  13. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Jun 6 2012, 11:45 AM) Huge track. Can you experts out there tell me what they use for that huge BOOM effect? Is it the bass? Or am I just as dumb as a box of rocks? It shakes the room! Massive. Not sure, today after hearing the song I started to think that the bass is dual tracked, one being the bare bass track and the other one a little higher in the mix with some modulation effect (chorus maybe). Can you tell me what you hear? Because following the bass I hear an almost synthy sound, after that I noticed "this is not following the bass, this IS the bass". And because I could hear both of them, I came with the dual track thing. If this is true, that surelly is contributing to the "BOOM"
  14. QUOTE (Dscrapre @ Jun 5 2012, 10:49 PM) QUOTE (samurai1993 @ Jun 5 2012, 07:17 PM) p.s: If you remember the fancy mics that they had in their mic stands during the Time Machine tour; those are copperphones and give a distorted/mid focussed tone. In the tour they used them for recording the crowd sounds, wondering if they recorded the distorted/low fi voices in the album with them, or that was post-production in the studio They might have also recorded vocals with a harmonica mic like Les Claypool sometimes does. On songs like Moron TV he gets a very similar vocal sound using one of those. All I know is that I hope they perform these megaphone vocals live on tour and don't just put them on a sampler like they seem to usually do. The copperphones they used to record the crowds where in fact the harmonica version http://www.placidaudio.com/the-copperphone-harmonica-mini/ But all the versions have that distorted edge. The harmonica that Les uses is the bullet looking that he used in the Spirit of Radio cover that is in YT?
  15. QUOTE (HeadlongMark @ Jun 5 2012, 09:39 PM) That phased guitar part could be from Permanent Waves/MP era. Alex is just ripping it on this song. And now that I have seen the lyrics, I mean, damn. the phaser really did it for this record. Also loving how it sounds in the bass of Caravan
  16. This thing is growing really fast for me. At first I was like "me, this is good, but not good", and have the feeling that the 3 songs that we already had were everything the album had to offer... 'til I heard The Anarchist and realized how much that one had to offer. At this moment the only poor in the album, for me, is Wish them well (And probably it will stay in that position). The only thing that I miss is an instrumental (I would happily trade Wish them well for one of those)... oh, and more cowbell. There is always place for more cowbell.
  17. QUOTE (presto123 @ Jun 5 2012, 06:29 PM) 2112 this^ the scenario is similar. I would say is like 2112 with some kind of "happy" ending.
  18. The Anarchist, lots of class in that song.

    The Anarchist

Lovin' the egiptian/asian scale that they added at certain moments of the songs. The solo is gorgeus and exotic, the lyrics beatiful and for me is the song with most flow of the album, the lyrics just go on like butter! p.s: If you remember the fancy mics that they had in their mic stands during the Time Machine tour; those are copperphones and give a distorted/mid focussed tone. In the tour they used them for recording the crowd sounds, wondering if they recorded the distorted/low fi voices in the album with them, or that was post-production in the studio
  20. Swap "Wish them well" with an instrumental (Or just get rid of the track) an this album tops at Moving Pictures/Hemispheres levels. Still the best since Power Windows IMHO
