Were the Strings Received more warmly than Keyboards
toscanobarga replied to losingit2k's topic in Rush
About the same. The keyboards actually started showing up on the kings tour IIRC, memory is a bit hazy, a lot of things were hazy back then.....but they were phased in is my point, they didn't just show up on signals. The Strings are more of a one-off I think. -
So, anyone still wondering what kap can do if the read-option gets neutralized ? Sell out to stuff the run, leave the middle wide open. I think only 49er fans and jaws knew he could be a pocket passer when needed. Kid has a long way to go but he's getting there. loved his post-game quote: "If intimidation is your game plan, I hope you have a better one."

What was your first concert EVER?
toscanobarga replied to Tom Sawyer's topic in Music Of The Spheres
You saw Black Sabbath on the Never Say Die! tour? Very cool. Word is that VH blew them off the stage though. Was that the word from DLR maybe ? The night I saw that tour (Glasgow Apollo) VH got a decent reception but the crowd was absolutely nuts for Sabbath and they most certainly weren't blown off stage. But honestly, I've read that from a number of sources talking about the actual performances, not crowd response. I would expect people at a Black Sabbath concert to respond favorably to them. But by Never Say Die! Ozzy was running out of gas, and VH were the new upstarts. I have at least one boot from that tour, and Sabbath sounds fine to me. I'm a fan though. Maybe it was a night-to-night thing, but the Sabs were on fire that night. I was a fan of both, I had just bought the VH1 album and had been a Sab fan for a while. They still had that bizarre Tony-Iommi-Center-Stage setup thing going. -

Status Quo, Rockin' all over the world tour. 1970-something....Glasgow Apollo -
It's all down to personal preference. Beatles don't make my top 20, possibly not even my top 50, perhaps the most overrated band EVER. Just my opinion though. No way to prove empirically otherwise.

Roasting Brussel sprouts turned my wife into an avowed Sprout fan. Up till then she had always hated them. Roasting veggies in general brings out the best. Turnips, Squash, Parsnips, Beets, Cauliflower, Carrots....all yummy when roasted. -

Haggis is Yummy. It's no different than eating a hot dog, if you knew what you went into one of those..... Anyhow during one of my many trips to Korea my host had me try hong-oh, it's rude to turn stuff down when a company big shot insists you try it, it was nasty as hell and couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for hours. Barely made it through one bite without throwing up. Declined the rest, but that's ok, in their eyes you did good and didn't insult them by trying it. It's basically fermented fish, like eating a piece of cartilage soaked in ammonia for a few years. Nasty as hell. -
What's the best live rock album?Any opinions?

UFO : "Strangers In The Night" Thin Lizzy : "Live and Dangerous" -
They're from close to my neck of the woods and they are just awesome live. If you don't like 70's style hard rock they're not for you. Head Down was the 2nd best album of 2012, and they are, imho, the best new band to come out of the US in many years. Pity they are more popular in Europe than here, but hopefully we will come around and we'll get to see them more often. They are just a great kick-ass rock band. This review sums them up perfectly: http://www.sonicabuse.com/2012/08/rival-sons-head-down-album-review/

This is a pet peeve of mine with almost every new album. There's nothing wrong with a 40-minute album, most of my all time favorite albums are around that mark. Because a CD CAN hold 80 minutes doesn't mean you HAVE to fill it up. As a few people mentioned, the tracks we'd like to ditch will vary greatly from person to person, but in general I'd like to see all new releases form every band I like being put out with a single-vinyl-album running time mentality. I'm digging the Winery Dogs album and the last Deep Purple greatly, but in each case trimmming 2-3 songs would elevate my overall opinion of the album.

Best part of this news is that not only is it remastered but we get a double-album vinyl version.
-
Good album. Too long and "samey" though.
-
The album is good. Glenn Hughes without the histrionics and better Bass/Drum. Lots of interesting instrumental stuff going on. Where it falls down for me, like most CD-era albums is that its a bit long, still rooted in the Vinyl era I guess, put your best 40 minutes on there, not everything plus the kitchen sink. Also the slower songs get too much into Rod Stewart territory for my liking. In the silly Amazon star rating system I'd give it a solid 4. However it's a Portnoy project so we'll probably only get one album.

They should stop BEFORE they release an album like "13", but if they can release somethign like "Now What" or "Clockwork Angels" they should keep going.

Good band. Everyday Demons is great. But in the same vein I'd take Rival sons over them or Parlor Mob or Wolfmother.

Deep Purple: New album with Bob Ezrin
toscanobarga replied to treeduck's topic in Music Of The Spheres
I like this album a lot, more than any Purple album in a long time. As with almost everyone in the CD-era it's too long, adding more songs in the name of "value" isn't always a good thing. 4/5- 113 replies

So I picked up a half orange/half brown colored double-album 180gm version of ABC 74, supposedly limited editiion. Anyone know how limited ? Usually "limited edition" means "limited to how many we can produce"

What was the weirdo Ravens owner stroking Lewis's arm ? Icky.
