  1. You know I actually got the chance to see Guns N' Roses this year and to be fair they do put on a great show still. I consider it to be a different band then old-Guns N' Roses but the new guys put on an entertaining show And if I am being perfectly honest Axl sounded fantastic, much better than 2002-2007. But of course Rush blows everyone on that list away. Hell its not even close! Rush's last tour was the perfect mix of respecting the past and moving forward with the Clockwork Angels material while putting on a mindblowing show
  2. To say that he can't sing is just silly. Does he have a lower pitch and change some of the melodies in songs to better fit his voice? Sure, but I personally do not see how that detracts from the music, I still think they sounds great and Geddy still rocks vocally It is all a gross exaggeration of the severity of this whole conversation. Listen to the new live CD. He sounds great, hits the badass notes after the guitar solo in Freewill and sounds fantastic on the rest of the songs as well! I have one criteria: does it sound as good as the other performances to me regardless of the changes. And to me that is a huge YES! It is not denial, it is not anything but me simply enjoying these recent shows just as much as any other shows Rush has done So my point is: Geddy still rocks. Nuff said
  3. Guns N' Roses is winning! C'mon guys it takes literally 3 seconds to vote - get to it!
  4. Hmm wasn't aware that there was a remaster, what is the purpose of remastering a album that was already mastered relatively recently? Are there any major changes in sonic quality?
  5. It depends, was it the band who decided to release the greatest hit packages or was it the record label with a little input from the band?
  6. That and some songs (Dog Years, Totem, etc.) are really boring (my opinion of course) Limbo is really good because there are no lyrics Virtuality is great musically - probably my favorite off the album if it weren't for the lyrics Test For Echo and Driven are my two favorite now because the lyrics aren't bad and they are pretty rockin musically
  7. QUOTE (oldphilly @ Nov 23 2011, 09:42 PM) QUOTE (upstateNYfan @ Nov 23 2011, 06:39 PM) Rush are probably the best all-around value in live music. No one plays longer or harder. The notion of (fill in X) as a "cash grab" is silly. They are a business. Simply don't buy it if you feel a product isn't redeeming or worthwhile. I can think of no other band who has pushed--and continues to push--the envelope for so long. haha...Rush is cash grabbing and that is a fact. You rush apologists crack me up. If cash grabbing means that they are playing music and getting paid to do it... then every band that is touring is cash grabbing Plus you can't speak objectively what Rush's intentions are for touring unless you are psychic and know exactly what Geddy, Alex and Neil are thinking. So objectively you cannot comment on that issue
  8. From the get-go I have always thought the people complaining about Geddy's voice recently are over reacting a bit much I have listened (and watched) the DVD as well as catching the 2 Los Angeles shows this year and Geddy sounds great. Lower pitched? Sure, but he still is able to do a good job with the melodies of the songs and he sure as hell can play the bass just as good as ever. In fact the entire band instrumentally is firing on all cylinders And most importantly you can see that they are still passionate and creative musically and put a lot of effort into everything they do both live and in the studio I just recently read a post here from a member that wanted Rush to become a "studio only" band because they were not pleased with their live performance recently. This has got to be the most ridiculous claim I have ever seen posted regarding Rush. All in all: Rush still rocks. Nuff' said
  9. I would say 2112 to Signals would be my favorite time period for Rush. There was a bit of everything - hard rock, proggy, acoutic, synth-laden tunes, etc. Power Windows and Hold Your Fire were a little too new-wavey for my tastes, although they both have really good songs too 90's Rush is good. I love Counterparts but the others are filled with forgettable songs with the occasional amazing tune 00's Rush is great. Vapor Trails and Snakes and Arrows are solid albums and its great hearing them play "heavy" stuff that grooves like hell Soo... here is my own preference: 70's (with Moving Pictures and Signals) >>>> 90's Rush >>>> 00's Rush >>>>> 80's Rush (not counting Moving Pictures and Signals)
  10. Jeez guys Geddy sounds fine Sure he isn't hitting the insanely high notes but he still keeps a tune and is able to sing the songs pretty well. The whole band is still playing great and they are actually writing really hard rocking songs. So I don't get the complaining, they sound great!
  11. Did Geddy have a cold during that show or something? I saw both shows at the Gibson Amphitheater in LA and he sounded way better at those shows than at the Cleveland show on the DVD
  12. Pearl Jam! Amazing live band
  13. QUOTE (shail @ Jul 21 2011, 11:36 AM) neil can't improvise to save his life. the time feels horrible. no groove and the same fill over and over and over. made me cringe. neil had his time in the sun. now it's time for him to fade away into the sunset. looks like they had fun. His playing is fine
  14. Its not like Geddy hasn't dropped some lingo before this It's not a big deal, nothing a typical 12 year old hasn't heard before.
  15. People are getting upset because Geddy dropped the f bomb during a show?
  16. I love both bands Neither is a better band cause its all opinion based. They both have great music and put on great but different shows. Lets just kick back and enjoy both of them!
  17. I personally don't have a problem with it and I actually like hearing his commentary on it (maybe it helps that I am an athiest) But I can definitely see how people may not like it
  18. I would trade in Faithless and Presto to hear 2112 in full
  19. Rush fans are truly a strange and awesome breed! Most of my friends I know either never heard of Rush or only know YYZ and Tom Sawyer (I'm only 17 so most of my peers are off listening to My Chemical Romance and Avenged Sevenfold lol) so its really cool to get to talk to other people who know Rush inside and out
  20. QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jun 28 2011, 01:14 AM) QUOTE (Analog_Bro @ Jun 27 2011, 11:11 PM) The way I see it: Eddie is more of a "show-offy" guitar player who incorporates tasty bluesy licks with his crazy tapping speed stuff. Van Halen is more riff oriented as a whole than Rush. Eddie would play a bunch of crazy "guitar fills" in between phrases in a lot of VH songs While Alex was riff driven in the 70's, he wasn't as show-offy. He creates textures and sounds with his guitar. He still does have his show-off moments, but they aren't as frequent and as flamboyant as Eddie I love both and have seen both of them live and they are fantastic Well stated Analog Bro and welcome to the forum. From what I can tell you know your stuff. They are both fantastic, hence the poll. You seem like an excellent addition to the Rush Forum. "Carry On My Wayward Son!" Love, KANSAS Thanks for the welcome! I'm glad I found a place where Rush fanatics can congregate

  22. I love Roll The Bones The album gets waaayyy to much hate IMO Its Rush showing their groovier funky side. Well maybe it helps that I love funk and R&B The grooves on Face Up, Neurotica, Where's My Thing, and RTB are fantastic
