  1. QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Aug 21 2012, 09:04 PM) I think the band's protest was that the Russian Orthodox Chruch is in bed with government. I wouldn't know, but I agree they should probably not have invaded the church. I also think two years in prison is a bit excessive. I think you might just pay a fine anywhere else. Correct. The Russian Orthodox Church is keeping very quiet as Putin restricts human rights in Russia and therefore they become a legitimate establishment to protest. Especially given their own history during the years of soviet communist repression. Good on you Geddy.
  2. This tale rests on a groupie with no claim to anything other than 'collecting' brief encounters with musicians back in the day and Gene Simmons really saying neither one thing nor the other. The groupie (who, if the tales from back then are true was also likely to be seriously pickled on God knows what) is hardly a credible source. ....and Gene Simmons? Well, is it really stretching things to far to believe Gene was just indulging in the same old same old? Shades of an over-done 'us rock stars were such a mad crazy bunch right out on the edge, always getting up to all sorts of incredibly wild things.....weren't we everybody?'. But underlying it all, frankly my dear, who cares?
  3. QUOTE (GeddysMullet @ Aug 25 2012, 12:22 AM) I don't understand why people think that it is appropriate for fans to approach celebrities in public when they are pursuing their private lives....... ......................also heard stories of Geddy being gracious and polite to fans approaching him in private-life moments, so why should he be judged as "not a nice guy" because his record in this department is less than completely perfect? Fans who approach celebrities in non-professional situations should be prepared to have less-than-satisfactory experiences. +1 My sister & my bro-in law met Alex & Geddy in the street one day in London in 1978 & they couldn't have been nicer, happy to chat & pose for pics. Like anyone else we have good days & bad days.....and I've known a few successful musicians who absolutely resent that some people imagine they have a right to just intrude into whatever they are doing. You just don't.
  4. More content? Yeah, I go for that. I just hope that the next Blu-ray they do is a bit like the recent Pearl Jam 20 release & recorded over many nights of the tour to try to stitch together a lengthy masterpiece record of the band at their best.
  5. Why does anyone imagine they have to call it a day anyways? Since when did the urge to create stop at any particular age? Sure I can see them not needing or wanting to tour on the same scale as they have done but so what? That doesn't mean the music has to end. Even if the rate at which they create slows.
  6. "Pretending to like....." Laughably condescending arrogance much?
  7. I always considered Rush to be hard progressive rock. Metal always seemed much more predictable, staid & formulaic to me.....but as I get older I encounter people describing all sorts of bands as metal these days, having a guitar is enough for some. Opinions & POV's. It would be a very boring place if we all thought the same so what's the harm in differing on this?
  8. Maybe it's just me. CA is really growing on me, I loved VT & S&A. In fact I've enjoyed mightily every Rush release so far. Great band still making great records. Looking forward to seeing them next year too. Tickets etc already booked.
  9. QUOTE (Lerxster @ Nov 22 2011, 03:17 PM) I would LOVE IT if for the CA live dvd, they pulled a Pearl Jam -Touring Band 2000 move and film 10 or 15 shows, then edit together in order the best versions of each song. That would be monumental good Yeah, wouldn't that really be something? A collection of the best moments of a national tour......hell as we're sadly at a time with more behind than ahead how about finishing with a compilation of a global tour? Their pension plan completed, a 6 disc Blu-ray set (and DVD equiv) with live CDs etc accompanying. (but in Rush's case it'd be one I'd happily stump up for, they have given me so much pleasure in my life) ......and after that they can relax to the occasional studio album & studio shot videos.
  10. I'd far rather a world where Rush still made albums than not. If a studio album every 3 or 4 years is what it comes down to then that's fine by me, there's absolutely no sign (to my ears) that they have lost the art of making a great record. I agree Geddy's voice has it's bad nights but as said, it's only to be expected & it's not every night either. I just hope they do not stop, not for a long while yet.

    Lifeson Rants

Never knew about this before, sadly never had a rant at one of the shows I went to. I really like Alex, his film & TV work (and his own solo album) show an excellent funny and pretty dark take on things. The Paris Hilton one made me laugh out loud.
  12. I wish I could just pick 'all of them'. Seriously. At various times in my life they have all occupied fav spot for me. I have found I love every one of them when it comes out within a play or two. I just hope they don't call it a day, even if studio albums is all it ends up as in time. These guys rock, pure & simple.
  13. Watched my Blu-ray the other night, loved it. I (think I) know Geddy's finding the earlier material a stretch too far sometimes at least. But with the nutty Ayn Rand BS peppered through some of that earlier stuff maybe that's no bad thing they've pull away from it (ooops, there's the right-wing American element upset ). Anyways. What surprises me is that they stick to a format where one show alone is filmed for release. I know this stuff is expensive to do and I can see the attraction of keeping the flow of the one show's experience but surely filming 2 or 3 nights would do a lot to counter the chances of someone being a little ill, or just having an off night or a handful of mistakes? At the end of the day tho I've not had one Rush Blu-ray I've been disappointed in, that lossless audio is monster.
  14. I am loving the Blu-rays. We seem to be getting a tandem Blu release with each new video now - I am so happy about this, the DTS HD MA lossless audio is simply wonderful. Long may it continue. They even managed to go back to R30 and release a Blu-ray of that one. So, I was wondering, is it possible even older shows were filmed (and therefore easily encoded to a high def video release)? Rush in Rio, perhaps?
