  1. Me, too. What album is best to try with Phil up front? Like...I've heard most but none stood out to me to play twice. I would take just one and play it more than once. If you want progressive Phil, either Wind & Wuthering or Trick of the Tail. I lean more towards the former, however. If you want something with a bit more pop but want the progressive feel, then Duke is your best bet. For straight out pop, anything between 1983 and 1992 is going to be up your alley. Abacab is kind of in the middle of progressive and pop, which is why I like it more than any other Phil-led Genesis LP. I hardly ever sit down to listen to Genesis anymore. I've been kicking Invisible Touch around the last week at work, and it's been my go-to album for easy listening for a long time. Genesis was just one of those bands that had brilliant moments, but they were either brought about in a dull way or extended to the point where it exhausts the listener.
  2. Dead and Company - June 16th, Riverbend Music Center, Cincinnati, OH What a show! Easily the most entertaining show I've been to since the Fare Thee Well last year. I was standing in the lawn, and let me tell you, no one stood in the same spot for the entire concert. I started at the far left end of the field and made my way around the entire field throughout the entire concert. It was the same way at Soldier Field last year, but this seemed a lot more intimate and "face-to-face" than before. Riverbend is such a great venue for these kind of concerts, and I'm so glad I decided to take the plunge and buy a ticket. As for the setlist, it was a VERY jam heavy set, which is what I was hoping for. What I was most impressed with, however, is John Mayer. The guy obviously fits into the Dead family. While Trey Anastasio was the best selection for Fare Thee Well on being most experienced playing in a jam oriented band, John Mayer is a MUCH more technical player than Trey. His touch was so soft and his playing was very true to form as a Jerry Garcia replacement. I think Jerry would have approved of both John and Trey, but John is so much closer in overall playing and tone than Trey was last year. I particularly enjoyed John's vocals on Sugaree and Brown Eyed Women, VERY down-and-dirty soulful renditions. Overall, I'd give the concert a perfect 10 out of 10. Set 1 Hell In A Bucket Brown Eyed Women Me & My Uncle Big River Sugaree Jack Straw Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo Set 2 Box of Rain Viola Lee Blues> Uncle John's Band> China Cat Sunflower> I Know You Rider> Drums> Space> Viola Lee Blues (reprise)> Stella Blue Sugar Magnolia U.S. Blues
  3. http://billbungay.com/Items_For_Sale/lp_records/G/grateful_dead_go_to_heaven_lg.jpg Easily my least favorite Dead album cover. Really great album though. Gotta love Althea and Saint of Circumstance. I have to admit though, Jerry and Bobby look damn fine in white suits.
  4. I haven't listened to that one in a while. I remember the studio tracks were weak. Psycho Man sounds like they wrote with the idea to write something like Iron Man. I never thought the studio tracks were really great either. But the live performance alone makes up for two studio tracks that sounded weak.
  5. Reunion. Hands down. The band just had the heaviest sound and the crowd played off of them so well. Iommi's tone on "Into the Void" and "Children of the Grave" is f***ing spectacular.

  7. Black Sabbath - February 19th, 2016 at The Palace of Auburn Hills, Detroit, MI This was my first ever Black Sabbath show, so my expectations were pretty high. I've been a Sabbath fan since I was 7, so this meant a lot to go see three of my favorite musicians. Set was relatively strong with obvious fan favorites and even a nice surprise thrown in with "Hand of Doom". A shitload of pot smokers made "Snowblind" and "Hand of Doom" in particular feel incredibly intense. I lost my voice by the end of the night between being loud as possible and shouting lyrics with the rest of the audience. The only complaint I have is that Bill Ward isn't part of this tour, so I have some trouble calling it "genuine" Black Sabbath. Tommy Clufuetos gets the job done, no doubt, but Ward has a special touch when it comes to playing something like "Hand of Doom". Overall, I'd rank the entire concert 8 out of 10. Set: Black Sabbath Fairies Wear Boots After Forever Into The Void Snowblind War Pigs Behind The Wall Of Sleep N.I.B. Hand of Doom Rat Salad (w/drum solo) Iron Man Dirty Women Children of the Grave Paranoid Grateful Dead - July 3rd through July 5th, 2015 at Soldier Field, Chicago, IL What a long strange trip this was. I made this trek over the course of July 2nd to July 6th with three good friends of mine to see the Fare Thee Well shows in Chicago. I'm too young to have seen the Dead back at their 70s peak, but having the opportunity to go and see them put to rest the Grateful Dead name nearly 20 years after Jerry Garcia passed away was once in a lifetime. Trey Anastasio taking over lead guitar duties was the best choice, and it was very clear to me that he enjoyed every note and second he played. What really astounded me about the entire series of concerts was just how these guys are still going after everything they've done so far. The energy behind songs like "The Wheel", "Scarlet Begonias", and "Tennessee Jed" had the entire stadium on its feet it seemed like. Being down on the field in the middle of a crowd of some 60,000 people singing the chorus of "Tennessee Jed" at the top of their lungs and then for it to be dead silent during the entirety of "Stella Blue" made me realize how special this band is to millions of people. Since the concerts themselves are well documented, I'll give my highlights of each night's songs: July 3rd Box of Rain The Wheel Scarlet Begonias Bertha Playing in the Band > Jam > Let It Grow Help on the Way/Slipknot! Ripple Fire on the Mountain July 4th Tennessee Jed Me and My Uncle Standing on the Moon Little Red Rooster Deal Friend of the Devil Stella Blue One More Saturday Night Shakedown Street July 5th Truckin' China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider Estimated Prophet Terrapin Station Samson and Delilah Throwing Stones Cassidy Days Between Not Fade Away Touch of Grey Attics Of My Life
  8. Busy summer for me this year! Dead and Company - 6/16 at Riverbend Music Center Willie Nelson and The Family - 6/22 at The Rose Music Center Brit Floyd - 7/27 at The Rose Music Center The Atomic Punks - 8/4 at Fraze Pavilion Get the Led Out - 8/25 at Fraze Pavilion I've already seen Black Sabbath earlier this year in Detroit, so I'm not going to truck over to Indianapolis to see them. I saw my first Grateful Dead shows last year in Chicago, so Dead and Company would technically be my fourth! Really excited to see Brit Floyd again. I've seen them twice and both times blew my mind. Hopes are pretty high for Atomic Punks and Get the Led Out. Tribute bands can be hit or miss, but most of the ones that come to this area are great.
  9. In Limbo is my favorite from Kid A. I'd say the weakest track is Optimistic.
  10. Is he carrying Tony Iommi? No, because Tony Iommi is the person who carries Ozzy about 99% of the time now. The obvious joke is he is taking a walk with Sharon. Sharon would be hanging around his neck. Isn't the obvious joke that Sharon is the obvious joke? In a lot of ways she probably kept him alive. But she sure is obnoxious isnt she? You gotta wonder though what might have happened to him had Sharon not gotten involved in his life. Ozzy would have turned into another Pigpen or Morrison if that were the case.
  11. Is he carrying Tony Iommi? No, because Tony Iommi is the person who carries Ozzy about 99% of the time now.
  12. It's better than the entirety of "I'm with You". But it's just not RHCP without Frusciante.
  13. No, I think it's just you. See, people don't necessarily need to be out front about how much they love an artist. It just seems more apparent that people talk about them after they die because...well, they died. I think it's wrong to say rock and metal fans wouldn't be praising him to this extent if he hadn't died, because Prince was one of the few artists in the last few decades to be able to transcend genres and get everyone moving. It does come down to people not realizing what you have until its gone. I do have to agree with Mr. Not: the praise I've been reading and hearing can become incredibly exaggerated at times. We get it, you liked Prince and received some inspiration/influence from his music. Good for you, now move on.
  14. Billy Corgan Axl Rose Bruce Springsteen Ozzy Osbourne AFTER "No More Tears" Any of these generic "indie" band singers that are manufactured by record companies
  15. I'm impressed. A solid 9 out of 10. This is such the opposite of King of Limbs, I never expected something like this out of Radiohead (but I said that about KoL too). A Radiohead album that opened with Burn The Witch, included Present Tense, and closed with True Love Waits? A year ago, I would have laughed at that thought. Not sure what to think of Identikit. When I heard that song on the Coachella 2012 livestream for the first time, it was amazing. Feels like they just stripped out a lot of what made that song pop out. Removing the Obberheim synths is probably what did it. Ful Stop is pretty stripped down too. I wish they just stuck with the synths on both of those songs, it gave both of them so much more power.
  16. Getting so hyped. Downloading it right now. Can't believe they've put out Burn The Witch and True Love Waits in official form now.
  17. The whole thing about different drinks giving you different drunks is largely a myth. The other ingredients besides alcohol may have a slight effect on your experience, but when it comes down to it it's all about the amount of actual alcohol you've consumed. Oh trust me, I'm very aware of that ;) I do like assigning different drinks to different albums though, considering not every album is the same and has its own particular feel to it.
  18. Black Sabbath - Sabotage (A good stout ale of your choosing fits best) Grateful Dead - Blues for Allah (Honestly, I tend to drink hard cider when listening to this, specifically Woodchuck) Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead (Any fine pilsner would do) Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (A full body lager does the trick) Led Zeppelin - IV (Sam Adam's Boston Lager or Rebel IPA) Most of the albums I would drink to are just something to put on the turntable or CD player, crack open a can of Lite, and have a good time.
  19. I definitely think the overall theme of this thread is to not do drugs.
  20. Disembodied Spirit, with all due respect to you, would you please show a little respect...people are more than a little saddened by this loss and you making "jokes" isn't really appropriate...thank you, I appreciate it. In order to maintain some level of decorum, I'll only say, you've got to be kidding me. I'll bet no one here knew Prince personally. No one here knows any of his family. No one here is going to his funeral. If a joke is harming your delicate psyche, seek help. People deal with death in different ways. A joke is a great way to bring some people back to reality when they are so absorbed in an event that really has nothing to do with any of us. In other words, get over yourself. ReGorLaTroy is the epitome of class on this forum, and you have a long way to go So ... Mr Mao Zedong, I am sure you can understand when I say: 他妈的关闭 Ahh, so solly. Me no speak Chinese. Classy. 21. Do you like more progressive/experimental material from Steven Wilson? Porcupine Tree Do you like more digestible/short form songs? Blackfield Not that hard folks. Blackfield hasn't been really good since the second LP. Welcome to My DNA made me vomit.
  22. I was lucky enough to see him last year in Louisville and Detroit for his Hit and Run tour. Never gonna forget those last few songs as part of the main set Controversy 1999 Little Red Corvette Purple Rain Now THAT was an experience. Feel so blessed to have seen him just jam on Purple Rain.
  23. Will "Highway to Hell" now become "Highway to Taco Bell" since Axl is singing?
  24. I can't be the only one who thinks politics and music just don't mix.
  25. Rediscovered this amazing forum and all the people associated with it.
