  1. I'm not a huge fan of Neal Morse related stuff, but some stuff he is does is easily 10/10. The rest is mediocre to me.

  4. That was by far the most amazing thing I have seen in my life Wow. I literally almost cried with the FFX part, then the kingdom hearts which was unexpected and beautiful, and when I thought the best was done, out comes Song of Storms...then Metal Gear, holy shit! And Chrono Trigger early on.... Wow, that's prog up the butthole too!
  5. One of the best Zep covers I heard is any Zep song On a serious note, No Quarter by Tool.
  6. Hmmm....I normally would never recommend Hemispheres for a beginner, but if you want to impress someone who has been around for a while, chances are the more popular albums won't stand out much, despite being complex. I would actually say Hemispheres.
  7. Neil is amazing, f**k all the haters

He told Danny that in his opinion (and that's the important part here, folks!), Porcupine Tree won't ever get back together. Danny also said "I think we witnessed the end of Porcupine Tree tonight." And honestly, after seeing Steven in solo form - I have to agree. Musically, in my opinion of course, it's on it's way to surpassing PT and on stage Steven seemed overall more relaxed, happy and free compared to any PT show I've ever seen. I might be mistaken but I think that's an old quote that was refuted by SW himself a while back. Don't have time to do the research at the moment but it was someone who overheard part of a conversation, as I recall. No, the old quote was from a fan who ran into the manager at the NYC show. I think the manager said something similar. Both the manager and SW refuted the statement and Wilson has said that they're not breaking up. Even if they do, I wouldn't really mind since I loved GFD so much. And I think the reason why he's taking a break from PT is because he wanted to add more jazz elements to his music and he said in an interview that one member of Porcupine Tree hates jazz (probably Barbieri). He would be the only one who hates jazz if any. Colin and Gavin have jazz and soul in their playing style and could probably rip some great stuff. Without a doubt it's Richard who hates jazz. I'm no expert in his back catalog of music (outside of PT and Japan), but all evidence of his discography points to him as the jazz hater. His approach/playing style with PT and Japan also proves Wilson's point. And by popular belief, it's Richard who Steven describes as the moaner of the band based on an interview he did for Download 2010 (although he refused to name the moaner like he refuses to name the jazz hater). Both Gavin and Colin are jazz fusion players, so it has to be Barbieri. But even though PT has some slightly jazzy elements.
  9. Know your wings: Question 1: If thou shall fail to consumeth all wings in your order, what shall thou do? A. Find the courage to continue B. Share the wings with friends C. Throw the wings away Question 2: If thou wisheth to consume wings while on a bus, train, or airplane, but hungry people are watching, what shall though do? A. Those hungry people should not have sat near you B. Share the wings C. Give the wings Question 3: Should SAUSE happen to fall upon thine clothing, what shall you do? A. Lick that piece of clothing clean B. Utilize a napkin C. Immediately wash clothes If thou answered C to most of the above, thou art a sinner and shall burn in endless buckets of only bones with no sauce or meat. If thou answered B to most of the above (or A, B, and C) thou shall repent, or face severe punishment in the form of making wings for all of TRF without eating a single one. If thou answered A to most of the above, thou art cleansed of sin.

  11. QUOTE (ReRushed @ May 17 2012, 08:37 PM) QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ May 17 2012, 09:31 PM) QUOTE (invisible airwave @ May 17 2012, 09:50 AM) Just about 90-100% of mainstream music of the past decade and a half. Agreed. Nirvana, another band who should've never made it big, is to blame for the downfall of modern rock. Kurt's godawful, borderline mentally retarded lyrics and his shitty musicianship lowered the standard for what people consider acceptable in the modern rock world. If you doubt this, just think about it for a second. There was some pretty good stuff that sold well, got played on the radio and charted before Nirvana came and shit all over the modern rock world. Since then, modern rock has slowly gotten worse and worse and it's all because Kurt Cobain influenced the future generation of rock that it was OK to be mediocre. He started the trend and it continues to this day. The only mainstream rock band that is trying to keep any sort of high standard today is the Foo Fighters. It's good to see that Dave Ghrol didn't follow in the footsteps of his former bandmate, you know being shitty at your craft being acceptable, and actually has some talent and writes good songs. I totally disagree with this. As a full time progger who loves complexity and lalalalalala whatnot, I admire Nirvana. Mainly because I grew up listening to them, but then I got burnt out. However, upon discovering prog, I saw renewed my interest in Nirvana. Sure, their music is not difficult to play. The other two musicians (and even Kurt) had a lot of talent though. But what Kurt did was inject a new attitude into the music world. It's not so much that complexity dwindled. While his influence spread to many mediocre bands, it also spread to some prog bands, and musicians in general. Pain of Salvation and Tool were around at that time, and have a similar sound. But they didn't fall into simplicity. They took that attitude and did something with it. IMO, Kurt is not to blame. Even rap, which I detest, brought a new attitude to the music world. If everyone in mainstream culture chooses to take a derivative of that, fine, their loss. But the people who enjoy complexity will find inspiration in a new attitude and do more with it. Hmm, I wonder which band does that... I think they're called?
