  1. QUOTE (ReRushed @ May 29 2012, 03:51 PM) It's a misconception that The Beatles were a boy band. Yeah, seriously...

I also dislike being photographed. Me too. Someday I'll get around to posting a picture of myself. I can't post pics due to my stupidity and the fact that I'm using an iPad but there are several ugly videos in Making Modern Music you're not ugly DDD: What are you talking about I should be posting pics soon
  3. QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ May 23 2012, 04:01 PM) QUOTE (richellis1974 @ May 23 2012, 03:58 PM) @ReRushed.....ha ha ha!!!! there is more to a band than just the drummer BUT yeah...I saw them on the Time Machine tour and was there for the MUSIC, not just the Drummer, BUT as a Drummer myself I obviously get drawn to that. Peart himself underwent "ground-up" re-learning under Freddie Gruber, who took him away from the grandstanding double-bass thing and took him back to the hi-hat on beats 2 and 4 in the bar to "feel" the time(Pearts own words)...this to me has taken him down a simpler and less "showy" approach which to me is NOT as exciting as the psuedo jazz-rock type finesse shown on earlier albums.... THAT IS ALL I AM TRYING TO SAY........ Alright dude...you have your opinion....it stands.....most skilled and experienced drummers I know however dont agree with you. I understand Saying something negative about a rush member is a bad way to make a first post, bu also, most skilled and experienced drummers actually would agree that Neil hasn't reached the peak he did with Hemi. I love rush and Neil, but seriously, Neil is not all that great man. He's ridiculously good, yeah, but there are tons others how are, from a technical standpoint, more talented.
  4. QUOTE (richellis1974 @ May 23 2012, 03:39 PM) IM NO TROLL!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST A REALIST AND A DRUMMER MYSELF.....I DO not just listen to ONE band however, and believe me that from an INFORMED standpoint as a drummer/teacher myself that Pearts playing has gone backwards, technically and in terms of invention. Seriously, I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT......WHAT A BUNCH OF NARROW-MINDED, BLINKERED fools. I think the guy never intended to troll. Neil's drumming did peak at Hemispheres, from a purely technical standpoint. Everybody just bashed the poor dude. But who knows, writing in caps does seem to indicate a troll. Eh, I hope that poster WAS trolling, because if not that's a pretty bad way to treat a newcomer.

Lady Gaga Katy Perry First of all, I'm assuming you're being sarcastic. So I gotta step up and share my feelings on Gaga.... while Katy Perry is a talentless hack in every way, getting by completely on looks and boobs, Lady Gaga is truly talented. She is a consummate pop entertainer.... she has a captivating, unique voice, she can dance well, she writes her own songs, she doesn't use Auto-tune, she puts on a great live show, and she has strong artistic vision. Sure, she steals a lot of ideas from Madonna.... but what great artist doesn't steal? Rush steals from time to time. The Fame was obviously a run-of-the-mill cookie-cutter pop album. But once it catapulted her into fame, she decided to take her music and her whole image in an entirely different direction.... how many of you have actually listened to Born This Way? It's one of the best pop albums of the last 20 years. I'm honestly excited to see what Gaga comes up with next. She is a unique voice in mainstream Top 40 music. Comparing her to Katy Perry is just insulting. Dude, couldn't have said it better myself! Everyhting I always say to defend her you said it exactly! I truly love Gaga- and yeah, BTW is a fukking killer album. I can't wait for the tour to come to America- I don't care how much I have to spend to see her. Get ready for the backlash coming from the other members! Lady Gaga is purely derivative and she's a hack. I'll admit she has some artistic merit, but goddamnit I know for a fact she's weird because she's trying to be, not because she' an artist. And if she's a real artist she would shoot for something more artistic, not derivative of other people's acts. Yeah, her music is catchy and hell I enjoy it when f***ing around with friends. But seriously, she's not the artist so many make her out to be. It's almost fact. So many people worship her, and say she's a real artist, and then when they hear classical or jazz or something, they say it's not real music. That's in my experience, after conducting a research project dealing with this stuff. So maybe not for you. Bottom line, I respect your opinion, but I hope you acknowledge that she's simply not as talented as so many other artists.

Balloon Astronomy Fierce and the Dead Tedeschi And most importantly I've yet to hear Astra's new album... And I like Edison's Children more than anything from Marillion. I don't know why. Balloon Astronomy is a pretty cool prog band with Nick D'Virgilio of Spock's Beard on drums. The album's only $5 on bandcamp. http://balloonastronomy.bandcamp.com/. Check out The Fierce and the Dead. They're Matt Steven's band and are all instrumental post-rockish/prog. Their stuff is name-your-price on bandcamp. http://thefierceandthedead.bandcamp.com/ Tedeschi Trucks Band is Derek Truck's and Susan Tedeschi's new supergroup. I love Edison's Children but Marillion is much better imo. I'll check me out soon enough. Write now I'm obsessed with Storm Corrosion
  8. QUOTE (Union 5-3992 @ May 24 2012, 08:52 PM) I snack throughout the day and have a decent Dinner. But during school days I don't have time to get breakfast and sometimes skip lunch depending on the meal. Don't worry, I graduate in a few days so I'll go back to my 2 meal plan. (I'll sleep well past lunch) I hardly sleep haha, maybe that will help me lose weight.
  9. QUOTE (Union 5-3992 @ May 24 2012, 08:39 PM) I feel great right now. 5 foot 10 and I weigh 140 pounds. All thanks to skipping meals and eating very little. Gotta stay healthy guys. Except skipping meals and eating very little isn't always very healthy
  10. Okay, last year, I was in cross country at school, weighing somewhere between 145-155, constantly gaining and dropping. This year, I dropped athletics in favor of academic competition and a bunch of senior AP classes and college courses. Now that the year is done, I need to drop those 15 pounds I gained (weighing 167 now). I ate a yogurt for breakfast, did my regular set of push ups and sit ups, had just one enchilada for lunch, and a hamburger patty (sans) bun for dinner. Eating fruit in a bit. I went out for a bikeride then ran a mile, going for under 7 minutes. I'm ridiculously tired and I'm off to play Paper Mario, but I lost .8 pounds after that. One thing that has been helping (I was 172 just two weeks ago) is what I call the nothing but water challenge. Basically, for 100 days, drink nothing but water. Eat whatever the hell you want, but drink just water for 100 days. Who else is doing something to stay in shape? I'm just doing it because I don't wanna end up like my papa, who exercised tons and ate tons when he was younger and continued to eat like that but forgot to exercise when he grew older Post how you're doing while trying to stay in shape and any updates in the future.

  13. Can't believe The Mars Volta ain't on the OP. that's the number one band when it comes to sounding fresh.
  14. QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ May 23 2012, 08:31 PM) I think it'll be interesting because it's not something you hear much these days (unless a lot of bands I don't follow are doing this, and I'm just clueless). I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of reflecting on my own life when I hear it, which is always insightful. Haha, yeah, tons of bands still do this
  15. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ May 23 2012, 06:31 PM) QUOTE (lifeson90 @ May 23 2012, 01:35 PM) all that prog rock storybook sh*t I wonder how much of it you actually listen to, haha. (Not Tommy, the original poster)
  16. QUOTE (lifeson90 @ May 23 2012, 12:35 PM) personally i was and still am quite surprised that Rush are dabbling in that concept stuff again, it's all a bit juvenile and pretentious i think, the guys are fundamentally class musicians who done very indeed after leaving all that prog rock storybook sh*t behind to be honest i'm surprised they didnt become incredibly bored with the project very soon after initially playing with the idea, but i suspect Al & Ged are happy so long as Neil's happy anyways, it seems Ged at least insisted on each track standing alone for what it is, which is welcome, and the standard of what's been released so far varies from the sublime bu2b to the excellent caravan to the very good Headlong Flight, so i aint complaining, especially after seeing what the band had to say about The Garden and Clockwork Angels etc like bring it on quick I hate these, "prog is pretentious" posts. Rush has been prog all their career my friend. Perhaps not classic prog, but always prog. All I get from these posts are "I'm pretentious."
  17. QUOTE (metaldad @ May 23 2012, 01:49 PM) I gotta say i don't see it. I really don't . I never understood why people like /love this band . It's not like i have not listened over the years but i guess it's just not my cup o java I can see why someone won't like him but you got to admit he's a talented guitarist and songwriter with decent lyrics. On top of that, he doesn't ever use a pick. I don't know, I just prefer this over all other regular rock bands. Knopfler is just full of soul to me.
  18. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ May 21 2012, 11:57 PM) "There`ll be a good portion of new material and some older stuff that we`ll be revisiting that you haven`t heard in a long time. There`s also a couple that we haven`t played live before that we`re thinking about doing. There`s quite a few in contention for the final set list." I'm happy! That made me jizz.
  19. QUOTE (Unattractive Truth @ May 21 2012, 03:09 PM) Telegraph Road and Tunnel of Love, by Dire Straits. In fact, pretty much every solo Mark Knopfler has ever done. Mark Knopfler is ridiculous. I'm so sad he doesn't have a larger output. Dire Straits suits him well but I would've loved to see him in a band like Yes or something, I think he would've fit very well.
  20. I like pretty much everything by them, but very few of it I love. And it's funny, with this band I like songs rather than albums.
  21. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ May 20 2012, 10:59 PM) QUOTE (KenJennings @ May 20 2012, 11:51 PM) The consensus I hear about Beard is that Snow is their most well liked album. But in my opinion, V is their best, followed by Day for Night. A lot of people seem to hate Snow. I think Dave Meros himself said that its his least favorite album. I love it. Day For Night is an extremely underrated album and its one of my favorites. Snow is delicious, I think their best. But maybe I'm just too big a fan of The Lamb.
