  1. I got mine today. My first copy was a cassette when it was new. The only CD I've ever had is the 1997 remaster. This one wins easily. It is quieter so I cranked it up and I haven't noticed any distortion. I have what was once a high end system with enormous Cerwin Vega speakers. I know what I like and it sounds good to me and it sounds good loud. If you are an audiophile and like gold CDs then I recommend it. If you never liked Roll The Bones you probably will not now. Those hair metal guitars Alex was playing in the 1980s and 90s are never going to be Gibsons or Fenders. Geddy's bass, on the other hand, is just wonderful. Bravado sounds better than it ever did. I always loved his bass on this album and it is warmer, deeper and has more dynamic range. Neil's drums sound about the same to me, but as I said, it all sounds better. My only real complaint is the packaging. Whoever was in charge of producing the booklet is just a plain asshole. I can't think of a nicer way to say it. It looks like they scanned it and then printed it on a home printer. The problem with everything being produced on computer these days is that a computer screen has light behind every image. What looks great on screen will darken on paper. The pages with the band portraits are just terrible compared to the original. It is also printed on cheaper paper than the 97 remaster so the black ink bleeds and thickens on the white pages. Some color blind dick put way too much blue into everything. The elephant is no longer grey. Yeah I'm ranting at random and just plain insulted with this effort because I'm in the business and I am more than certain that I could have done a better job at half the price. If I wanted a cheap knockoff of the original I can get one from China. Sorry, aside from the booklet I'm pumped about it. I'm listening to it again as I type this and Ghost Of Chance sounds great.

I was thinking the right price would be about $5, but I doubt the record company will agree with me. Thanks for the scans. It looks good anyway. And your site is excellent.
  3. I've got it on vinyl, but I have no turntable. How about an mp3? There's no more tour and the DVD is months away and the new CD even farther in the future so any little thing helps.

    Time Machine DVD

Awesome I just signed up to be notified as to when I can pre-order the Blu Ray. Can't wait.
  5. I don't think NP is a total dick. He does express some humility in his writing, but there is a mindset that many people have wherein they think that what they believe puts them in the majority with most of the people on the planet. The sooner we all learn that is true the better we will all get along. Maybe.
  6. QUOTE (Snow-Dog2112 @ Jul 14 2011, 07:47 PM) i hope they do a symphony concert.
  7. I saw both bands twice on their current tours. It is hard to compare. Both bring it every night. Both fail. Both succeed. I enjoyed all four shows.
  8. There is a local investing radio show here in Nashville. I think it is called The Big Money Investor Show. Can you guess what their theme music is? Hint: It isn't "I Think I'm Going Bald"
  9. QUOTE (TullSkull @ Jul 12 2011, 07:52 AM) QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Jul 12 2011, 05:27 AM) Dead. Oh booger, I was only being silly.
  10. The track list is a dead give away. They are all Mercury era songs. People at that record company will flog older Rush songs for the next 100 years if they can.
  11. On just about any MFSL version you get there are usually some time differences. It is essentially a new version from the (hopefully) original master tapes. I still think the 97 remaster is the best of the 1997 group, but it may be that it is simply the top turd on the pile.
  12. I got the single disc, red cover Icon for about 6 bucks brand new at Best Buy. I picked it up for the cheap price and have never listened to it. I may do the same for this one, but I probably won't listen to it either. The only compilation with anything interesting or new on it is Retrospective 3. Rush compilations are so useless that I'm boring myself typing this...
  13. The review is 31 years old and for its time it is about as positive as reviews ever got for Rush. Find some old reviews from the 70s about both the albums and the live shows and you will see outright hatred for the band. It worked out ok, though. Such bad reviews gave the fans (and the band) thicker skin and intensified our loyalty.
  14. I pre-ordered it this morning. Amazon is selling it for $20.21 (US) plus shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Roll-Bones-Rush/dp/B...10038818&sr=1-1 The release date is July 19.
  15. The Roll The Bones gold CD is out on July 19.
  16. It is hard for me to imagine that there will not be at least a limited tour for the 40th anniversary. Rumors are the The Rolling Stones are going out next year for their 50th. Lots of musicians keep going for as long as they can. I don't think Rush will be playing shows in their 70s, but I can see them doing an unannounced farewell type tour in 2014.
  17. Dang, I've never had a Rush dream. I did dream I met Paul McCartney. I had another one about U2, but no Rush yet.
  18. I have been to the Negro League museum in Kansas City. It is in the same building as the Jazz Hall of Fame. Both are well worth the trip if you are in the area.
  19. Most Rush albums were made in two or three months according to the album credits. The exception was Vapor Trails - that took most of a year. Things have changed these days, but it is conceivable that it could be finished by the end of the year.
  20. I had Permanent Waves in the car today and I was blasting that puppy really loud. The raw guitar sound on that album just kills me. I can just imagine Alex's hands on fire when he recorded those songs. It's my favorite.
  21. I am not a betting man, but I'll bet you my Rush collection they did a little (or a lot) of My friend told me that his friend told him that Geddy used to mainline heroin. I don't know where that rumor came from and I never believed it. If you want video proof of drug use watch the extra scenes on Beyond The Lighted Stage where they indulge in alcohol for about four hours.
  22. I suspect Replay x 3 is all were are going to get unless some new and magical technology is invented and you can just plug the music into your head (imagine the remixes). In the meantime we will all get older, our eyesight will dim and our hearing will start to go. At that time everything will become awesome.
